41  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can you help me refute a contrarian? on: July 06, 2014, 04:52:45 AM
As those with bitcoins use them they will own less. If they don't use them, then they are basically nulled.  Compare this with fiat where those with a lot can print more at will. The first system starts unequal but equals out over time. The other system also starts uneven and remains uneven. Which system do you prefer?
42  Economy / Speculation / Re: Only one winner for the 30k BTC from the auction! on: July 02, 2014, 10:04:43 PM
Hope the winner spends my stolen bitcoin on something nice.

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins.

It seems you've had to learn this lesson the hard way.

You have learned this lesson, right?

I learnt the lesson the hard way, don't store my bitcoins with 3rd parties longer than needed because you never know when some criminals will steal them.

Very happy with Tim Draper getting them. Likely this has raised the value of my other coins more than the value of the coin that was stolen so I guess even steven.

Hope the winner spends my stolen bitcoin on something nice. I was buying stuff that is legal in the US and here.

From a place that was known to be engaging in illegal drug trade money laundering....

Money laundering is a made up crime. silkroad was also known to sell bibles which are illegal in North Korea, terrible crime to sell bibles. And porn, you could actually buy porn on silkroad, that is just horrible right?

My opinion, bring on the negativity, is they should have donated ALL the SilkRoad
coins to a fund to be spread out proportionally to pay back all the MTGOX
victims.

Or to the FBI-victims who got their money stolen.

Don't compare a new network to a new service on a previous network. A better comparison would be bitcoin vs internet and bitcoin is doing just fine Smiley

Guess the price will be $666 for some time... New walls appearing equally as fast as the good news...

EDIT: Spoke to early Cheesy
48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin has went up every single year since inception on: June 03, 2014, 07:14:03 AM
When you compare January 1st price vs Dec 31st price of every year, Bitcoin has always been going up, and most of the time significantly up.

January 1st 2010: around $0.002 per Bitcoin
December 31st 2010: around $0.80

January 1st 2011: around $0.80
December 31st 2011: around $4.70

January 1st 2012: around $5.00
December 31st 2012: around $13.25

January 1st 2013: around $13.00
December 31st 2013: around $730

January 1st 2014: around $750
December 31st 2014: ? ? ? ? ?

Do you think this year is an exception?

January 1st 2010: around $0.002 per Bitcoin
December 31st 2010: around $0.80
increase of 300%

January 1st 2011: around $0.80
December 31st 2011: around $4.70
increase of 487.5%

January 1st 2012: around $5.00
December 31st 2012: around $13.25
increase of 165%

January 1st 2013: around $13.00
December 31st 2013: around $730
increase of 5515%

January 1st 2014: around $750
December 31st 2014: ? ? ? ? ? (i expect $2500 ish)

Prediction for the next few hours:

The wall at 600 will be partly pulled, then we will see a rush to 620, then slow walk to 635, from there a crash down to 600 before the prices stabilizes around 610 again.

Quote me if I am right.

How can it be partly pulled AND go to 620?
1. Most of the wall is removed
2. A lot of buys soon after

55  Economy / Speculation / Re: Peter Schiff doesn't change his stance on bitcoin...by taking bitcoin on: May 25, 2014, 08:11:29 AM
Used to be a big fan. This whole episode has thought me one thing, I have a strong bias to think that people I agree with are smarter than they actually are.

For Peter it's like he read 2-3 articles on Mises and was good at winning some debates using those arguments, but never really grasping the rest of the theory. We thought he was on the level of real thinkers like Taleb or Friedman, but in fact he was more like an average 110 IQ politican who just happened to say a few things we agreed with.

We he started saying things we know are not true it got more obvious that he wasn't humble about the future, and we know that smart people are humble about the future. And when he got corned by the likes of Voorhees who actually know the topic being discussed his arguments were all over the place, which is a sign that you need to think more about what you believe. A smart person would recognize this and slow down, but Peter just keep spewing random thoughts trying to fix his cognitive dissonance.

It was a good lesson the libertarian needed to learn; to not deify everyone who agrees with us that look good in media.

Ah ha, new wall @ 530.

Probably the guy who just bought them. If it gets sold he has made a profit, if not he can buy even more cheap coins. Win-win

58  Economy / Economics / Re: How divisible are bitcoins and other market/economic questions on: May 06, 2014, 08:27:50 PM
If it gets tiresome working with small numbers, we could change where the display shows the decimal point.  Same amount of money, just different convention for where the ","'s and "."'s go.  e.g. moving the decimal place 3 places would mean if you had 1.00000 before, now it shows it as 1,000.00.

This would be better than the bits thingy!

+2 euphoria votes, is silkroad back?
It was down for like a week after the FBI raid, then it was down for like a week after the hack. Now they have repaid most people who lost money(unlike emptygox) and they have more listings than when FBI raided them.
