I think overstock does already fron their website We partnered with Coinbase, a Bitcoin platform, to enable Bitcoin as a form of payment on Overstock.com. Coinbase is a Bitcoin wallet that allows consumers to buy, sell, send, and receive Bitcoins.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Will the Altcoin die in 2019?

I think good chunk of alts will die as most of them had extremely ambitious roadmaps. Some already xit scammed. Only disciplined projcts with real use case will remain. 2018 was the year of free money for them through ICOs now thats over and only teams really delivering will survive. Then again who knows maybe btc bear market will put everyone through nuclear winter.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETHEREUM OR RIPPLE?
|
on: September 22, 2018, 05:42:11 AM

Neither XRP is centralized and more like bank utility. ETH might be replaced soon. Xlm , ada might be candidates. On the other hand eth is pretty easy to buy through many brokerage accounts — albeit at a steep premium — using Grayscale’s Ethereum Classic Investment Trust (ETCG). If coinbase lists more coins competition might heat up...

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Coins kept in exchange, are they safe?
|

I would say Coinbase is the only insured exchange. Although Binance has proven itself to be safe through guardrails they implemented to catch abnormal activity. We saw sys abnormal activity and hiw their safu mechanism responded in timely manner. July 3rd at 8:44 PM UTC The price of SYS shoots up to from 0.0004 BTC to 96 BTC. July 3rd at ~9:00 PM UTC Binance shuts down the exchange for unscheduled maintenance. July 3rd ~ 11:00 PM UTC Binance resets all API keys as a security precaution. July 4th ~ 12:00 AM UTC Binance re-enables API key creation. July 4th ~ 4:00 AM UTC Binance completes system maintenance. July 4th ~ 6:00 AM UTC These are pretty fast response times for attack that was very well thought out. Safest way is cold storage hw wallet but binance is not bad either..

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [POW] [XHV] Haven Protocol - untraceable payments x stable value storage

viable alternative to offshore accounts, boasting a feature within the offshore accounts that actually preserves the value of Haven Protocol coins at a fixed level of fiat currency. To clarify: They plan to achieve this through a burning and minting protocol for their coins, that burns the coins as they are deposited into the “offshore” account… and re-mints an equivalent value of coins as you attempt to withdraw your funds.
According to their whitepaper, that breaks down to mean: An account owner (we’ll call them A) deposits $200 worth of Haven into their “offshore account” on October 5th. XHV is worth $2.00/XHV on October 5th. So, A deposits 100 XHV. On April 5th, Owner A returns and desires to withdraw what funds were deposited into storage. On April 5th, XHV is worth $4.00/XHV. When Owner A receives back what they placed into storage, he receives 50 XHV which is now the equivalent to $200, the original fiat value of the deposited funds

Economy / Economics / Re: Binance CEO Zhao: Crypto Market Will ‘Absolutely’ Grow 1000x and More
|
on: September 14, 2018, 04:56:33 AM

He clarified it later To be clear, I never said that there is “no room for growth” in the crypto ecosystem. I said there is no room for *1000x price increases*. A 1000x price increase from today means $200T in crypto, or ~an entire 70% of today’s global wealth being in crypto.”
“What I *actually* said is that, because large portions of the population have already heard of crypto, further growth of crypto in any sense must come from *depth* (ie. actual usage), and not bringing in more attention.”

Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why does anyone care about BTC ETF?
|
on: September 14, 2018, 04:53:44 AM
|
when an ETF becomes available, the price really increases dramatically, as suddenly that commodity becomes available to a lot more investors and these investors pile on. But, the other side of it, is that there are always these claims that the commodities markets are heavily manipulated and opening up these ETFs only increase the ability of institutional investors to manipulate the prices of commodities
