42  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-09] Bitcoin and the NYSE — unpacking Bakkt’s BIG plans on: August 09, 2018, 12:54:31 PM
People are so overly focused on ETFBitcoin could be on the verge of breaking through as a mainstream currency. At least that’s the goal of a startup that is soon to be launched by one of the most powerful players on Wall Street, with backing from some of America’s leading companies.

This morning Intercontinental Exchange—the trading colossus that owns the New York Stock Exchange and other global marketplaces—announced that it is forming a new company called Bakkt. The new venture, which is expected to launch in November, will offer a federally regulated market for Bitcoin. With the creation of Bakkt, ICE aims to transform Bitcoin into a trusted global currency with broad usage.

To achieve that vision, ICE is partnering with heavyweights from the worlds of technology, consulting, and retail: Microsoft, Boston Consulting Group, and Starbucks. ICE did not immediately disclose the total investment of the investment partners, a group which also includes Fortress Investment Group, Eagle Seven, and Susquehanna International Group—or the ownership stakes.

The founding imperative for Bakkt will be to make Bitcoin a sound and secure offering for key constituents that now mostly shun it—the world’s big financial institutions. The goal is to clear the way for major money managers to offer Bitcoin mutual funds, pension funds, and ETFs, as highly regulated, mainstream investments. news, this is the real news..

Users can also trade in bitcoin, ethereum, bitcoin cash, litecoin and dogecoin, "as well as track market data for 10 other cryptocurrencies," the post states.Wow ETC on robinhood
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do Bounty Hunters Sell Immediately they receive reward? on: August 04, 2018, 02:27:08 PM
They most likely not invested ib tge project and just did it for free coins. My guessis that they immediately convert to btc or eth right after receiving their bounty
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: When do you think Eth will break $2,000? on: August 03, 2018, 06:31:28 PM
When you look at the growth of Ethereum, you would realize that it has been astronomical, to say the least. Ethereum is not a case when it comes to rise in cryptocurrencies. There have been a wide variety of cryptocurrencies which have increased significantly in the last 12 to 14 months. Cryptocurrencies Ethereum specifically has gone from being traded around $ 100 to being traded over $ 1200. All of this within the last 15 months. This is one of the main reasons why investors are actually fearful of investing in Ethereum. This brings us to the very important question as to whether Ethereum is actually in bubble territory.

Normally, when you’re speaking about bubble territory, the asset which is in the bubble territory does not have the proper fundamentals to match the price rise. You need to understand that Ethereum is not a for-profit company and therefore, it cannot be judged like one. On the other hand, the asset prices are also are regulated by the demand-supply equation. The demand for Ethereum is significant as more and more investors are looking to invest in it. However, rather than just looking at the demand of the asset, it is important to look into the underlying application of Ethereum.

In the longer term, only when the underlying application of Ethereum is being utilized more and more, Ethereum would increase in value as well. This is one of the main reasons why you have to look at the potential end users.

The truth is that even Fortune 500 companies are interested in what Ethereum has to offer. They have formed an enterprise Ethereum alliance in order to harvest the smart contract capability as well as the blockchain capability of Ethereum. Once proper end applications are available, you can be sure that the usage of Ethereum would increase significantly.

In addition to the application which we discussed above, Ethereum platform is also being used by the companies in order to launch their ICO’s as well. This is another application which is gaining more and more momentum.

51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone use CPA networks or affiliate programs to promote their ICO? on: July 25, 2018, 11:47:28 PM
I would suggest using RTB exchanges for acquiring new customers. Its best to have pricing method CPM w CPA goal. There are some audience modeling techniques and algorithms you can utilize as well. CPA cost method only will not get you the quality audience imho.

53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Referendum SwissBorg (CHSB) - Distribution RSB Tokens to CHSB Holders on: July 24, 2018, 01:13:47 AM
For participating in the second referendum, you will receive 0.01 CHSB tokens for every RSB token used to vote.
Referendum2 RSB2 token distribution has begun on 18.07.2018. Distribution will last between 2 or 3 days.
Because of the volatility of the price of Ether transactions and our desire to keep voting cost low for our community members the voting date has not yet been set. Voting is open until August 3rd.
HELIX Orange is the first project to be selected for the SwissBorg ICO Platform. A great, solid digital ID project that was, also, nominated for the FinTech Germany Award, Helix is a perfect fit for the SwissBorg ecosystem. Staying true to the SwissBorg’s meritocratic and community-centric approach, all CHSB token holders participating in the Second Referendum will receive SwissBorg selected project’s token in addition to the CHSB tokens promised, in this case, the Helix Token (HIX), once their ICO has been completed. Unlike the distribution of the CHSB reward the distribution of HIX tokens will take place after the completion of the Helix ICO based on community members’ participation in SwissBorg’s 2nd Referendum
**The ratio for the HIX token airdrop is 1/60 so, 60 RSB2 gives you 1 HIX. 1000 RSB2 = 10 CHSB + 16.66 HIX**

Eddy Zillian

When Eddy Zillan started trading in cryptocurrencies three years ago, he was 15 — too young to open an account on the trading platform Coinbase, which requires its users to be at least 18 years old.

But Zillan glossed over the site's terms of agreement and opened an account on Coinbase and another trading platform called Kraken, cautiously purchasing $100 worth of the cryptocurrency ether. Now he is a millionaire 😈

58  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Panic sellers, please head for the exit (and don't come back) on: July 13, 2018, 03:21:20 AM
don’t invest money I can’t afford to lose. Doing so can create panic and cause me to make emotional decisions.
don’t panic. Crypto can be highly volatile, portfolio swings of +30% are possible in a day, individual coins can go down 50% and up +100%. It takes time, but the longer I have traded crypto, the more comfortable I have become with this.
don’t short. I don’t have any fundamental issue with shorting; I think it is a good tool within all markets for driving accurate pricing, whether stocks, Forex or cryptocurrency. I just don’t do it within crypto for a couple of reasons. Firstly we are in a very long bull run, so I don’t want to trade against the momentum and secondly, I find coins have a greater % upswing potential than down.
never margin trade. Margin trading is where an exchange will give you a multiple against your investment. Say for example you are offer *10, then as a price moves up your gain is *10, but this also works when the market moves down. Margin trading for me is investing money you don’t have which is rule no.1.
don’t chase the market. I have, and I have been burned. When a coin is making a parabolic move, and you chase it you can easily be caught as it drops back.
don’t listen to the opinions of others. I will though use them as an opportunity to research something new but I won’t blindly buy. I use Reddit all the time to follow news and opinion, but I ignore the idiots who are claiming a coin is going to the moon, or something is undervalued. Most opinions are based on what people want to happen.

60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: encourage others to crypto on: July 07, 2018, 03:13:06 AM
Open Zeppelin USD Audit should convince anyibe to dump fiat for crypto
Critical Severity
Centralized issuance, requires trust in US government
The USD monetary base is tied to the centralized policies of the Federal Reserve team. In contrast with most other digital assets, where supply is algorithmically pre-determined, the USD token’s supply is subject to central planning and manual minting by the team. This means the USD tokens are produced on an unpredictable pattern of increasing inflation.
Consider removing the Federal Reserve’s ability to mint new USD tokens at discretion.
Not backed by any physical asset
USD token is what is called a “fiat” currency. Fiat money is an intrinsically worthless object, that is deemed to be money by law (in this case, US law). This means that users of USD token are required to trust the US government to exist and operate correctly in order to use it. A black-swan scenario where the US government ceases to exist and enforce the USD token’s value would cause a global financial crisis.
Consider reverting to the gold standard and having each USD token represent a fixed amount of gold.
High Severity
Heavily depreciating asset
The USD token has been alarmingly depreciating in value over the past 100+ years. $1 in 1860 had the same purchasing power as $28.53 in 2018. This means someone hiding $1000 in 1860 would now have the equivalent of only $35.05 at their time. This heavily undermines the token’s usefulness, and damages trust from its users.

Consider adopting a stabler monetary policy.
High energy usage and environmental impact
The token’s physical implementation requires huge amounts of energy for printing, counterfeit management, as well as transportation. Consider switching to a crypto-based currency to reduce environmental impact.
Medium Severity
Undetermined confirmation time for transactions
Electronic transactions of USD may be rolled back by a centralized agency at the request of the payer, at an arbitrary time after being executed (sometimes even months after). Compared to the average confirmation time in the order of minutes in all major currencies, this time is unacceptable for most use cases, as merchants cannot reliably count on the payment received for a provided service or good.
Consider settling transactions after a reasonable period of time, or switching to another currency altogether for managing payments.
Unappealing design
Consider redesigning the USD token branding for a more modern look and feel.

Highly susceptible to theft
Physical US Dollar bills are highly susceptible to theft, especially through the “pickpocketing” attack vector. Any malicious user with enough proficiency in this kind of attack can remove an arbitrary amount of US dollars from an unsuspecting user, by substracting their entire wallet.
Consider adding some form of password-based protection to US Dollar wallets.
Low Severity
Unsuited for global transfers
US dollars can be transferred in either physical or electronic form. Physical form, while convenient for exchanging small amounts with neighbouring parties (note that this use case was already covered by barter), is extremely cumbersome for long distance transfers, requiring the usage of trusted third party services. Furthermore, these third parties employ transportation methods to provide this service, which consume extremely high levels of energy, compared to those required for a simple cryptocurrency transfer.
On the other hand, in electronic form, US dollar transfers or payments require the approval of several intermediate agencies, which may demand arbitrary documentation to authorize each individual step.
Consider setting up local exchanges from USD to cryptocurrencies, to use an efficient method for global transfers.
Notes & Additional Information
We found it really hard to find up to date documentation on this project. Please improve documentation to help users and future auditors understand and evaluate the project.
Even though the token is burnable, we found the process to be rather anti-ecological. Consider minting new tokens with more eco-friendly materials.
Conclusion
Two critical severity and two high severity issues were found and explained, along with recommendations on how to fix them. Some changes were proposed to follow best practices and reduce potential attack surface.
