1  Economy / Services / Re: [WTB] Sell your EMPTY ETH Wallet! ($5-10/address) on: February 27, 2023, 03:41:37 PM
Buying as much as you can get, as long as they have uniswap activity before 2021!
You guys really need to highlight the uniswap activity before 2021 cause I got a cold shoulder from OP since my wallet was turned down because it doesn't meet the uniswap activity in that timeframe.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Gamers beware: miners are now painting GPU memory on: February 27, 2023, 03:22:27 PM
I must of misunderstood your post. I assumed you meant that they recycled all the memory chips from old GDDR5 GPUs and ended up using those in some newer GPUs as rebranded chinese ones. What you are saying makes perfect sense.

Basically if only 1 memory chip is faulty and you can still sell the GPU for >$100 then its worth the labor to just replace that 1 memory chip. Probably will take less than an hour from start to finish. I had an old old Bitcoin SHA256 ASIC called the Jupiter (or Saturn) ASIC. This was back in 2014-2015 and I had many of the VRMs die on some units and I basically removed the dead ones and took working ones from other boards. Since I was only replacing 1 VRM instead of all of them it was worth while.
I do think they can still find profit even from reballing the whole card instead of just 1 or 2 faulty memory. It's because of perspective where we think they do it from a small kind of shop with little tooling. But what about at the industry level with a lot of BGA machines and scale-up processes? I think they can do it much faster, with high precision as well. Once old junks rebrand as new, it may be worth it after all since they got the memory and GPUs for dirt cheap price. All you need is the same pcb with the same memory layout -> all hard work can easily turn into automated.

Do they really recycle the old memory chips? If you take a GPU it usually has about 8 memory chips. And its very easy to remove these chips if you have the right equipment. Heat it up for a minute or two and remove it with a suction pen. The pain will come right after.

Its very difficult and time consuming to take off the old solder and then you need to carefully apply the balls on the solder joint, you use a stencil to do this. Again this is doable however doing 8 chips will take 30-60 minutes depending on skill level. If this was reballing some GPU chip for a product worth $500 it would be worth it, but to go thru this hassle of reusing the memory chips just sounds crazy.
Yes, they do. The GDDR5 memory is dirt cheap so it might not be worth the hassle of replacing all of them. Cost and labor work to replace all of the memory chips isn't rewarding so sometimes, people sold a faulty VGA with GDDR5 memory for 10 bucks. Usually, if you got like 1 or 2 faulty GDDR5 memory, replacing 1 or 2 is right up everyone's alley.

It isn't like they need to reballing all of the memory. They just took the faulty VGAs with a few bad memory and replace them with the recycled memory that they got from other VGAs. Basically, the frankenstein VGA, you see. Some are greedy enough to retouch the PCB so it looks new and sold it with the tag as a brand-new product. GDDR6/X is now where this process is profitable while GDDR5 is less so. Thanks to the crypto mining boon back in the heyday leading to the massive amount of GDDR5 flooring the market, so you're half-right on your assessment.

What reviews are you talking about? The Chinese sell video cards after repair at 2 times cheaper, and these video cards work for at least 6-12 months in general. Delivery to Russia from China takes several weeks, so many people buy video cards there for 50-70 dollars.
In the store, a new analogue costs $ 220 minimum.
I'm from Vietnam so local reviews cover something that is very obscure and questionable Chinese products that you won't see anywhere. A bunch of dudes found something very cheap but questionable quality/price, a dude with technical background brought it first and broke it down, testing to see what was inside them and telling the other if it was worth the price/performance for social creed. We've some really old bb forums that took root from overclocking and PC hardware since 2006. Also, some VGA is at the end of product life so I doubt if you could find a truly new analogue for that VGAs (1060, 580,...)

Recycling old memory chips has been a trade for China's brands for a while. Not just GPU memory but also others like RAM, and NAND flash memory,... You may not know, but some China NVMe SSD also uses shitty or low-yield NAND or even recycled NAND from used SSDs. The same for some questionable Chinese RAM brands like Kingfast or Kingspec (copycat of Kingston name).
Dead VGA cards with untouched VRAM could still fetch a good price even if it not working or are completely dead (ten bucks for RX 470/570 model with 8GB last I check). To be honest, it was very eco to make use of everything even the old and busted memory of all kinds. Still, advertising it as a brand-new product is dishonest. My advice: don't take anything from China's market at the face value, check reviews from many other customers or broke-down, disassemble reviews like OP mentioned.

This is another reason why I believe gaming on a console is so much cheaper than PC gaming without having to worry about low fps and whatnot...now imagine having to invest in a GPU just to get better video memory or fps with lots of money for a used item that can die any time... and also the worst part about buying these products is that they are not covered by a warranty if you will be importing them from some other part of the world, in a nutshell, some bad business practice from our Chinese friends to be honest needs not to be supported.
No need to bring on the console vs PC war on this topic. Consoles have traits on their own, I agree with that. But for anyone who wants to tinker with their PC, wants to have more options, or might just simply want their gaming experience at both low heat and silent, PC is where you have every tool to tune for your needs.

6  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A direct threat to US: Should Pelosi go Taiwan or not? on: August 02, 2022, 02:59:40 PM
lol China, all bark, no bite. Try to drum up and threaten Pelosi's trip to Taiwan. Because of her history of holding a memorial for all the victims who died at the hand of China communists in the Tiananmen Square 1989 right in the place itself, in 1991 (pic).
No wonder China feels so insecure and against her trip to Taiwan. Now, she landing in Taiwan safe and sound. I never knew Pelosi was this based. A milestone victory for Taiwan's independent movement and democracy around the world.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, many people believe in democracy, in a country's sovereignty shocked by how blatant it was. A big country can bully and force their way, invasion another country if they want without anyone to stop it. And we talked about how China might do the same with Taiwan. But this is like a quell of thirst in the desert for those who believe in democracy, in the free will of people to decide their fate.

8  Economy / Gambling / Re: is there a sportsbook that gives risk free bet or freebet to the first bet? on: July 26, 2022, 01:38:02 PM
That would be the promotion runs from the new sportsbooks. Those are very limited and very short time so you shouldn't count on it especially if it weren't run on 'safe bet' matchs. Instead, it would be best if you looked for a welcome/new reg bonus, which only requires a small minimum deposit for an instant amount of money for you to bets. I think I saw yas bet that open recently have such program, 'deposit minimum $10 to get $200 welcome bonus'.

10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: My wallet has Been Hacked. i need your help guyz. on: July 17, 2022, 08:38:58 AM
What you are dealing with is a computer virus. Get another computer, and restore the seed phrase on that computer, reinstall the infected computer (because anti-virus is so awful at detecting viruses in the first place that it just kills running programs).
If it is a computer virus, OP should use Internet security, antivirus software to have better protection.

The best protection is don't do stupid things when surfing on Internet and don't use cracked softwares. It is a first barrier against hackers. The second layer of barrier and protection is software.
Op said he used Trust Wallet. which is a mobile wallet. So why can a computer virus cause a problem here? And I don't think any kind of virus can cause such problem. But if there are constant coin transfers from his wallet and the OP didn't do it himself. Then it can be said it is completely hacked. And he should stop using that wallet immediately.
Even though Trust wallet is on the smartphone, his computer can still be compromised if he has plugged that smartphone into his computer before. So nope, unless he got a new computer and freshly install Win/OS, he can still be at risk of being infected by the hacker virus. This is why everyone tells him to get a new address on a new computer. Another way to make sure is to prune any device he has connected to each other.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do Anyone Think Luna Will Recover? on: July 17, 2022, 08:27:22 AM
Trust me on this since I invested in old Luna and make 30x on it. I also followed the Terra teams and try to understand everything from it cause my investment. The thing is both old Luna and new Luna are done for. Not even worth any money or to be considered as a serious investment except if you're feeling lucky and want to gamble with $50-100.
12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Are we going to recover or continue to dump? on: July 17, 2022, 08:08:55 AM
What are your current opinions on the cryptocurrency market?
My current opinion is today but the market has increased a little bit and all the markets have started to move upwards. But the market may be good soon, those of you who want to invest can take money and those who have invested earlier but today have a little profit. The cryptocurrency market will get better soon but if you want to invest you can invest in the market but there is a possibility of getting better.
I say it is still a bit early to say if we actually got out of the bearish trend. The market was all green right now but the FED rate hike still looming and it will be like this at least for the rest of the years. I say we'd see the Crab market, not dump or recover as the overall trend for the crypto market. The best course of action for this is to look for short-term profit from the Crab. You can allocate a part of your portfolio to bag in the top crypto like BTC and ETH for long-term hodl.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Death of Etheruem mining - Predicitions on: July 17, 2022, 07:49:27 AM
Maybe it is more profitable when ETH becomes POS because those majority who only knew how to mine ETH will leave, and the profits will be shared among hardened shitcoiners hehe

When Ethereum goes POS and become a shitcoin it will not be on the top 10 marketcap coin anymore. Perhaps not even on the 100 list..

Come on, dude. Don't make it like the end of the world for ETH if it goes PoS just because PoW miners can't have the pie of ETH all for themself anymore. I'm sure with the behemoth of ERC20 tokens and smart contracts on the ETH ecosystem, it will keep being on the top 10 at CMC even in the worse dream you have for it. Funny how ETH with PoW is good but ETH without PoW is bad when CMC shows a completely different trend. It was the PoW coins are being pushed out from the top 10 or 20 CMC. Expect BTC because it was the pioneer as well as the 'gold' of crypto, and ETH with the massive ERC20 tokens.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My old officemate become millionaire on investing on Bitcoin on: July 17, 2022, 07:05:35 AM
This story brings me back when 2018, I also sold all of my alts and turn it to BTC. Got 0.8 BTC from that and I thought I could hodl it for a very long time. When the BTC price hit as low as $4,000, I chicken out and sold that 0.8 BTC for just a little over $3,000. Regret that poor decision ever since.
The only way to be rich in crypto that you should not be active in the scene, just buy some BTC and store it somewhere. Only sell it when the price is good after many years. Just like your friend got lucky because he forgot about that 1 BTC he invested years ago.
15  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: July 16, 2022, 04:59:10 PM
Some interesting news might be related to Natural Gas. China seems likely to drop the ban on Aussie's Coal to meet its energy demand as Natural Gas prices become so high. Some EU countries have also made some moves to turn on the old Coal plants. Do you think Coal prices will increase more in the future as more countries turn to it as an alternative to Natural Gas? Other than the obvious that Coal has more CO2 emissions compared to Natural Gas, do you think even with the increase in price for Coal in the foreseen future, it's still cheaper and less political burden compare to Natural Gas in the long run?

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Saylor thinks ETH post-merge on Proof-of-Stake is a security. on: July 16, 2022, 04:41:05 PM
Saylor thinks ETH post-merge on Proof-of-Stake is a security.

I think Saylor's a lil jelly tbh.

Thoughts?
I don't know how the idea comes to mind, but that's just ridiculous just because Ethereum moving to PoS, wont make ETH become security. ETH still has utility and people are still using ETH on the Ethereum smart contract, thus make it commodity. It's not just a piece of paper that says you own something.
Basically Saylor has invested a ton into bitcoin, hence why he would like to see bitcoin being the best ever and nothing else getting closer. Looking at the previous bull run, we could say that there was a good case to be made about ETH getting way too close during the bull run.

This means if we have ETH 2.0 and proof of stake there, and if we have a bull run at the same time, there could be a ton of money going into ETH, not saying it will be at the top and take bitcoins place, but it would go up a lot. This means that some money that could have gone to bitcoin and make Saylor richer, would end up in ETH and he doesn't want that to happen right now.
Maybe we don't need a bull run to see ETH price increase thanks to ETH 2.0 PoS. Just look how the crypto market is in such a boring state of crypto winter. Investors are desperate for anything to hype up and at least, have really strong momentum behind it. ETH 2.0 PoS meets all the criteria so I think it can be a bull on its own. Have you seen how the old LUNA takes all the spotlight? Even in such a sorry state, old LUNA pulls like almost the same amount of trading volume as BTC. FUD news like bad security for ETH post-merge won't be enough to get investors off the hype.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ignore the dip and Invest in Bitcoin for long term on: July 16, 2022, 04:18:31 PM
People who don't know how bitcoin circulates does not understand the system of cryptocurrency generation and when and what is the appropriate time to invest in the cryptocurrency but the problem is that many people feels that the best time to invest into cryptocurrency is the time when Bitcoin is increasing but not knowing that the deeper the falling of Bitcoin is the best slots and opportunity of who ir someone who is into cryptocurrency will buy and hold for the increase and make profit

Again, easier said than done. I knew some of the people who has been in crypto for like 3-4 years but still afraid of the dip.
They usually buy when Bitcoin is in an upward trend. They said they are just making sure Bitcoin recovers.
That kind of mindset is kinda weak, but I understand their sentiments. They are just not the kind of investors who had a good risk appetite and only had a slight idea what Btc is.
Can't blame them though, they still contribute to cryptospace.
It don't think it could be called a weak mindset. They're very smart, only invest after a strong recovery sign showing the market is indeed back to a bull run. Impatient and bought in the first dip doesn't seem like a good idea to me. You saw how many have said $30k is the lowest for BTC and everyone should buy in the $30k dip? Even right now, BTC is over $20k and not many investors are so sure about this is the dip, the lowest.
18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The cryptocurrency market is currently a hot spot for whales. on: July 16, 2022, 03:43:17 PM
I'd just notice that in almost everything it happens in the market we mostly blame whales and the manipulation. Sometimes I'd think that the market won't able to survive without these whales, huge investors. We are lucky of having them and we are thankful enough that because of them the market don't drop just like before.

That is why, if we only have access to them and know their plans, I think we are also doing the same and accumulating more. But that was hiding, they don't tell anyone, not like being a selfish action, it was also need to know whos gonna stay and whos gonna leave.
Not really, only in the bear market that whales get most of the hate.
Bear market: fuck whales for dumping and make my bag's price lower.
Bull market: hey whales, can you pump my bag's price up or provide the liquidation at a high price?

Big fish, small fish, it doesn't matter anymore since everyone wants to be rich and willing to step on others for profits and gains.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What Bear Market? CryptoPunk Sells for $3.3 Million on: July 16, 2022, 03:33:34 PM
Search on how art pieces are being used in tax evasion. The NFTs look quite the same, especially how NFTs can sold for a ridiculous amount of money without any verification and so lack transparency on the buyer. It's like they could appraise or set any price for it, and donate it to a museum for the charitable deduction on the taxable amount of money they own.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New Rig Results ... on: July 15, 2022, 06:01:07 PM
Wow, you have an awesome rig, with high density and only 5 GPUs with 562 Mhs
The memory temps are also awesome, but the only thing I would adjust in your rig is to decrease the fans speed
Maybe 80% will be enough to keep memories under 94º and this 20%less on rotation can help your fans lifespan
But you did a good job

And I noticed in the second picture you reduced the core clock on 3090 and "lost" some hashes, but the power draw decreased too
Agreed on fan speeds. I ran a 3090 at 100% fan speed for almost 1 year and one of the fans literally fell off. Card was still running good even with only 2 fans but I had to RMA the card to get the fan issue fixed.

A second 3090 was set with fan speeds of 75-80% and has not had issues. So I think 100% fan speed can cause the fans to fail faster.
Maybe it was a good trade-off to him since the price to replace a GPU fan is very cheap compared to VRAM. You can replace the GPU fan yourself, the high availability of GPU fans in the after-market. While you can only RMA the card when VRAM breaks or 3rd party GPU repair shop if the warranty expired. So the VRAM is under high priority even at the expense of the GPU fan, I think.
