tl;dr: I agree with your thoughts, but it isn't necessary as others are on the hook to ensure temps are appropriate, and plans are in place.

Yeah I figured cost effective measures and timeline were the constraining factors Smiley lol aren't they always Smiley  You're right, in that you have plenty of time before the external temps (I think the worry starts around july).  There will be some low hanging fruit you can do as the heat encroaches.  Those metal doors would be priority to seal and insulate, that would be my first target in the coming months.  Running Insulation to the thermocline (heat/cool barrier, should be somewhere around the dark line on the concrete in your latest photo slightly above where the cool air outputs are located.  Both easy and cost effective solutions.

Also an added bonus, those overhead, what I assume are wire runs, frames would work well for dropping vents above cold aisles if thermal turbulence prevents airflow.  Shouldn't be an overly expensive solution, if you find it necessary later.

I would suggest buying a bunch of cheap digital thermometers, if you don't already have a more sophisticated solution.  1 per rack section and a clipboard patrols/recording (I love low tech solutions) should let you moderately trouble shoot your arrangement.

Great timing on hitting this in the winter Smiley It will give you plenty of time to observe heat distribution while you still have plenty of cooling bandwidth before summer.  I hope some of this is useful for you and wish you the best of luck.  If you ever want to bounce ideas, just send me a PM.  I love this stuff.  Keep up the good work.

No raised flooring? cold air from above?

Do vents all line the exterior walls?  Just judging from the garage door, is the cold air entering from ~15-20 ft.?

are you doing hot aisle/cold aisle?

Was this building custom built?

or re-purposed with warehouse racks?

The high ceiling are nice, assuming the cooling intake is all the way up on the ceiling.

We are doing hot/cold aisle. Our engineers assure us the high ceilings and concrete will do a lot of the work dissapating the heat for us.

so I assume then the venting on the side is an attempt to use force airflow for cooling.  Each pass over a hot aisle will dilute the cooling to the center most rows.  In essence you'll be fighting thermal dynamics and having to over cool (and waste much more energy) attempting to reduce hot spots in the center.  Higher hardware failures and reduced performance (some hardware will under-clock itself to reduce temp) in the center of the center aisle (or other areas, depending on how the forced flow venting is positioned).  While concrete does have decent thermal conductivity, unless the air you are pumping is warmer than the external temperature, it will actually warm the air coming from the wall adjacent venting (see 4th photo on your initial post). Essentially your venting will be cooling the wall first, then the equipment. Furthermore, the first hot aisle will create thermal turbulence in cooling airflow, thus giving inconsistent results to your cooling attempts.  This is why most data centers have moved toward something like what's in this simple image:

now I'm not trying to troll or dig on you, more so trying to give potential improvements, but this would be an issue better dealt with prior to having hardware on the racks which will only create migration complexity in the future.  The user experience to watch out for, if this is the going forward scenario, is constant complaints of "I have 4 identical units with 1 (located in a possible hot spot) that consistently under performs."

Also, another consideration, when in a heterogeneous hardware situation (I assume you'll be hosting many different brands) and user controlled overclocking your thermal zones will be in constant flux.  I just feel concern that this will create the dreaded whack-a-hot-spot situation many early data centers  experienced.  Without a view of your actual cooling plan, I can only go by what I see in the photo.

Take some pictures of the Cooling planned.  Grin

I too would love to see these.

It appears to be zero information until further notice.  That's the problem with discretionary combined with no information. . . it adds up to who the hell knows.

It should be soon enough that our shares will be eaten up by costs.  That should make everyone happy.

An inevitable outcome of a questionable situation

After having sat here and watched this whole "Event" for the last 2 years-ish and finally having gotten out of it right before FTC shuttered them, I've felt like I was part of some strange social experiment and was held hostage to it.  Stuck between customers like Xian exploding from stress and rage, BFL's *cough* customer support, and Josh hitting the hornet's nest with a sledge hammer.  It was just short of needing therapy.  Now that I'm out, my life is much happier and I only check btc to see where the price is, what the news is, and making sure my automated buy in is working as I intended.  It was like BFL/Josh was Gladus from portal, constantly shouting insults at customers as they navigate some physics defying maze that has no true purpose, except to pass the time while we all wait for the cake to be ready. Every now and then, I has sad about opportunities lost/stolen, so I head to youtube and listen to this song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ljFaKRTrI

The parallels make me laugh, in a dark humor sad way, so I just laugh a little, shed a small tear and move on.  I hope it helps somebody else digest this horrible meal we've all been served.

What will happen to our div's if power costs are higher than the amount of bitcoins? I don't want to pay on top of it to get overpriced div's at the end...Tongue
If the cost of power rises higher than the bonus amount, you need to cut Lab_Rat a check every week to help pay for power.

Lol.  Don't remember that part in the contract -- either version.

I 'd guess operating expense runs somewhere around $3k a week. So, I'd guess that somewhere around $200/btc, there is no bonus, and lower ends up being Bad news.  In the endgame, Zach would forego his comp, to see if btc snaps back.  If it doesnt, then things start going dark, since electric bill couldnt be met.  Theres potential that things get ugly quickly.  But, btc is incredibly volatile. Its insane to do forecasts, since normal range corrections in either direction is massive.

It wasn't and isn't in the contract... Trolls gotta be trolls.

Your guess on operating expenses are pretty close, but slightly over after rent, power, internet, etc.  Closer to $26-2700 and getting lower.

The only issue is the price is going down and diff going up at the same time.  More power efficient hardware is on its way and there are some big plans for Q1/2015 to greatly reduce costs and increase hashrate.

Which contract? lol

There really is nothing to take pictures of.  I have been to the headquarters a few times for various reasons, and really, nothing is out of place or looks different.  The parking lot is still full of cars, just like normal, and you can't tell who is going inside whether it is for A.L. Huber or for BFL.  I sat outside for a good 10 minutes and watched a few sharply dressed men enter into the front of the building, again could be for either company, but no one come out.  They sure didn't look like they had sent a bunch of people home or were raiding and seizing assets of anyone.

No police cars, no government looking cars, nothing besides the normal.  If you want pics, you can go to google earth and look from there, it looked the exact same as when I drove by.

The only thing I noticed was a large semi truck out back, and when I went around into the hotel parking lot next door and peered through the bushes, there were a couple of large trucks.  The other ones probably belonged to the construction company, but the one closest to me was rented from a local company (I forget the name) and said, "Operated by Butterfly Labs" on the side of it.  Nothing was going on with it, and I couldn't see in.  The light was not right for me to snap a picture, but I thought it odd they would need to long term lease a shipping truck.

All in all, pretty uneventful and kind of a waste of time, nothing seemed to be going on and it sure looked like people were probably inside working away.

Says everything looks normal

Oh on the sneaky services of court papers, that's just kinda the nature of their business.  You should watch pineapple express on crackle, as Seth Rogen does a great parody of it.

www.crackle.com/c/pineapple-express

Me and my husband were laughing our asses off about it.  After participating in several .com type businesses (you can't do business for long without being sued by somebody unhappy eventually, every business eventually has to have attorneys on retainer) and each of us having 2 divorces, every time papers show up it's new different kind of hilarity.  One lady looked like she was about to deliver a singing telegram, just say "Thank you very much.", wink, and let it work itself out in court. Enjoy that movie, it's free and the commercials are minimal.

So . . .how I interpret this, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, is they've attempted to serve summons 3 times.  They haven't actually been able to serve Zach.  They've gotten Zach's mom or somebody named Donna.  I'm curious as to why Zach or his attorney(s)  haven't seemed to make themselves available for service.  My understanding is they have to serve Zach, otherwise the judge will eventually allow it to occur via a public notice (at least that's how it works in divorce *cough, from my personal experience*, which is also civil).  Though I personally think this tends to annoy the heck out of the judge.  It would be nice, imo, to see a formal response from LRM.  Anyhoo, I am learning a lot and fascinated by how readily the courts make this information available.  The more ya know. . .etc. . .

Edit: Ty for the donation Smiley keeps me motivated Smiley

In the midst of all of this, I have been moving as the lease on my condo (slight hint that I'm not misappropriating funds) ended in mid Aug.  I was not hiding from anyone, they were just looking in the wrong places.

I was served the paperwork Sat. that you posted all the docs by some guy trying to be sneaky parking around the corner and wearing shorts/t-shirt (which I found funny as I was waiting for them, not hiding from them.)

BTW, I would like to thank you Endlessa for a few things you've done as I can't comment and it's better to have truthful information out there rather than trolls and speculators.

Oh, were you forced from the condo? If so, my condolences.   I was under the understanding you were moving to a newly purchased house. Did all  that fall through or something? A random public record flew by that made me wonder.

NP on the report, I just want to see through the chaos Smiley  I'd love to see direct information posted from you guys, but I understand the need to not comment publicly, as well.  Anything your lawyers deem appropriate to post would be an additional and appreciated bit of information for us we can rely on.
12  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER Speculation Thread on: September 13, 2014, 03:17:01 PM
Yeah none of that looks like mining activity. . . mostly because it occurs exactly one hour apart (within a few seconds) for exactly 10 btc.  That would have purposely scheduled transferred funds for reasons that are nothing more than purely made up, unless an official channel declares publicly otherwise.  In general, that just shows odd behavior on the part of AM.

You are a genius. Get lost posting what had been discussed over and over again. Yes, a repeated payout of 10 BTC per hour has been set, and nobody needs you fucktard to repeat the obvious again.

lol you should probably take a vacation and unwind man. Grudge much?

13  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: September 13, 2014, 03:06:40 PM

Shut up.

Declaration: I am holding 100+ AM shares.

Where is the dedicated PR person promised so many times? Yeah, yeah, some boardmembers recently said it had been addressed (how many times now??). I believe it is safe to say that it has now been promised for more than a year. Or have we even passed 2 years already?

Where is the hashrate meter?

AM holding back info not to give competitors any advantage? No, I do not have any more patience. I am watching the shareprice going down and down. And that is for a reason. Yeah, yeah some tiny funds are being shuffled. A moron sales person has been coming up in the forum. Complaints are left unanswered and are being answered by shareholders and helpful members rather than AM themselves to keep up AM's reputation.
Trolls of the competitors are showing up. AM seems to have no intention or power to silence them. Shareholders have to do the dirty work. Shareholders are trying to crowdfund for advertisements. Seriously? There is no website that even a teenager would be able to set up.
The firmware of the Tubes is lousy. No official replies to that apart from some fc posts at will.

No updates. Comments of the competitor's shills are not being taken care of. Shareholders have to fight it. AM is a multimillion $ business? My hairy ass... As much as that is hurting my holdings.

How much more of "I JUST DON'T GIVE A FUCK" is possible from AM?
Such first mover advantage and bright potential screwed by negligence and incapability. Amateurs galore.

I think ya missed my point.  My sarcasm wasn't in direct disagreement with your discontent, but more so pointed towards the irony of someone shoveling ad space for products into their signature, while railing against the company they are trying to tell people they should buy from.  Also, that it makes the thread looks super cheesy when 6 people speaking all have the same ad spam in the sig.

On a side note, ty on the heads up about turning off sigs, but, in general, I don't filter the meta in a forum because I lose context on who I'm speaking too.  Though, in this case, it is extremely tempting.
14  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: September 13, 2014, 12:53:45 AM
Friedcat's silence and not giving a fuck for shareholders (and their investment i.e. the share price) is so pathetic that I don't have words for it.
No wonder we have to read bs comments of the trolls.

Hey, but shilling those tubes in the signatures is all that matters right?  The thread is starting to look like a bad geocities (yep, old person) user page.

Oh just realized what you meant by Zach can't talk, by response I meant the legal response to the court they file within 21 days after being served, not expecting Zach to answer here.
17  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: September 12, 2014, 08:01:11 PM

IANAL, but...  Don't the service receipts seem to indicate that the summons were accepted on Zach's behalf?

I'm not sure that accepting on behalf of someone else counts as being served, unless you are an agent of the company or representative (attorney, power of attorney, etc).  Though I could be absolutely wrong about this, it's just my little nooblet understanding of the process and limited experience with divorce.  My divorce was relatively civilized, but I do know that public (i.e. posting in a newspaper) notice can be used, if the person isn't found.  Hopefully somebody who is a lawyer/has the legal knowledge can answer that or I can ask on a legal forum somewhere.

Thanks for making the effort to do this, BTW.  I'm sure Zach's lawyers have threatened to murder him with a spoon if comments publicly about the case, so this may be the only way we get any information until it's all over....

grnbrg.

NP,  I personally had to do it for sanity and I has sad when the beautiful transparent world of bitcoin is cluttered with confuscation from outside sources.  It makes me happy when I can help the community Smiley

lol, I have no doubt that Zach can't speak a word about it.  I'm sure it's a short hairs kind of situation. Wink

For those of you who aren't familiar with the process of federal civil cases (I certainly wasn't), I found the following link very informative:
http://www.businesslawbasics.com/chapter-9-steps-civil-case

I have some new documents (including a pdf of the docket report) to post that correspond to the events in the docket report. I will post again with links after I post them to the file sharing site.

Some people suggested a donation address for my efforts to keep everyone informed.  I always feel odd about donation request for something I do for the community, but it does take a lot of my time and a small amount of my money to provide, so I decided that was a fair thing and have established 1QGfG2oEQ9vvJLEZ4W3BCtdL7DbYJRXHzz for these purposes.  Thanks for the suggestion, I'd have never thought of it. If you are cash/BTC poor, no worries, I just want peeps to have the information.

Stay tuned, more to come. Along with some fun filled discussion I'm sure.
