24  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Getting into bitcoin with only $25 on: November 29, 2017, 02:54:24 AM
I scraped together the little money I have and dove into bitcoin. My ambition is to make money trading altcoins and keep a bitcoin reserve. Can I even make it anywhere starting with such a small amount of money?

Just find a Bitcoin ATM, buy $25 worth of Bitcoin, then hold ( hodl ) it for 5 years.
25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $10K bitcoin: It is now official on: November 29, 2017, 02:19:37 AM
This is just the beginning. The whole world will see what will happen. Bitcoin prices will skyrocket to $ 100000 even more in the future.

26  Other / Meta / Are we allowed to give away bitcoins on this forum via private key? on: November 29, 2017, 02:14:51 AM

27  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's your biggest regret when it comes to Bitcoin? on: November 22, 2017, 09:33:28 AM
Not being active enough. I am a grade ten student and I find hard time to inspire myself in doing bitcoin. Now I am regretting it. I missed the big change of prices.
I am enjoying my life as a teen but I think doing this may be worth it. It's just hard fo r me. Many activities and I am more on Facebook. I want to be active starting today.
Yes bitcoin is more worthy than just surfing on facebook.Learn to love bitcoin more than anything except from focusing on your studies.I myself has my biggest regret too the moment i heard bitcoin the first time before and i never give any chance to bitcoin.I never even attempt to search about bitcoin,i was always a facebook lover. But now i realized it was the biggest mistake i've made.If only i could turn back the time, maybe by now i am already a very progressive individual,a millionaire in our community.

I agree but my biggest regret on bitcoin is that somebody wants to sell 100 bitcoin for me at 50$ and someone confused me that is scam I can never forget the pain

Sad Sad Sad

Thank you  Cheesy

Here is some info on it
https://medium.com/dash-for-newbies/whats-the-backstory-on-the-word-hodl-27756392b698

I hear people on this forum saying hodl instead of hold... but I think it means something more, amirite?

no, it doesn't mean anything more than just "hold".
This new word ('HODL') came out from a drunk guy who many years ago here on bitcointalk who suggested to not selling Bitcoins even if price went down.
Here is the original thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0
31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Will the Bitcoin Gods soon update the Bitcoin software to solve future backlog ? on: November 14, 2017, 07:59:42 AM
Currently, it worries me because 2 big things that first attracted people to Bitcoin were
- Fast transactions
- Low fees

But the last couple days? This does not inspire confidence at all especially for newcomers.

Do you guys think changes can / will be made to make such backlogs and high fees a thing of the past... or at least for a few years?

33  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: If you create a paper wallet with a bip38 passphrase... on: November 11, 2017, 07:30:33 AM
I believe there were some issues previously with the methods used for implementing the BIP38 encryption, which meant that sometimes you could run into difficulty when trying to decrypt them. There was one particularly nasty episode of this when it required a specific browser version on a specific operating system!

If you're worried about it, what I would suggest doing is create a throwaway wallet using the original method, and then attempt to decrypt it using various methods (bitaddress.org, blockchain.info etc)... that should at least prove that the systems you are using are compatible.

OK Ill do that thank you
34  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / If you create a paper wallet with a bip38 passphrase... on: November 11, 2017, 06:45:48 AM
I created a paper wallet a while ago with bip 38 passphrase.

Now I'm all worried because sometimes I come across the following

BitAddress and LiteAddress both support encryption of private keys through the BIP38 algorithm. This provides two factor authentication for your paper wallet; ie: something you have (the paper wallet), and something you know (the passphrase). Also note, that you will have to use the same website in the future to decrypt the private key.

I'm not sure what this means...
If I want to transfer my btc from paper wallet to hot wallet online, say at Blockchain wallet.... I thought I just need to
- create new wallet
- scan / sweep paper wallet ( scan qr code )
- enter passphrase

Am I wrong? what is this I keep reading about decrypting the private key Sad
35  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should Bitcoin do a 1000:1 split? on: November 08, 2017, 05:49:29 AM
no thats like saying " hey, I have 300 cents "

This would make anyone with less than 1btc seem cooler.
ie. Greg has .3 bitcoins. He tells his date, Mary, " hey babe, I have .3 bitcoins, so we can have fun tonight "
Mary rolls her eyes.

But, if btc split 1000:1, then Greg could say " hey baby, I got 300 bitcoins " and she would reply " Oh my, you are so sexy "

Thoughts?

This already happened.

They just gave it a new name.

Pre-split, it's called "Bitcoin" (and uses the abbreviation BTC).  Post split, it's called "milliBitcoin" (and uses the abbreviation mBTC).

So, Greg can already today tell is date Mary, "Hey baby, I got 300 milliBitcoins"

37  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When will banks start a war against bitcoin on: November 07, 2017, 08:06:40 AM
Governments will adapt by printing money with 'scratch and win' style dollars... the bill will have a public bitcoin key on it, but once scratched, it defaults to the bill denomination.

40  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Unofficial Quadriga Cx Thread on: July 16, 2015, 10:54:04 PM
Thanks
Got my payment today
about 5-6 business days, so I can't complain.

Seems for Interac withdrawal transfer to take forever. Say's officially on their site that it takes two business days but I know from experience that they can take up to 5 business days. Come on quadriga get it together!

Hey SuperAwesome...
Did you ever try a wire withdrawal?
What do you think, you think my money is gone?

Hey, I'd give it a bit longer before giving up hope. I have had 3 successful withdraws but have never used the wire method yet, so can't speak from experience there. They seem very slow to withdrawal with interac so I'd say a wire will take them a lot longer than they say! On another note there's now a cryptsy.ca, so think I'll try out them next! It bothers me that they take so long, like seriously think they should hire more people over there!
