961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EAC] EarthCoin - EAC v1.3.2 Now Available! on: February 26, 2015, 06:02:03 PM
is someone able to answer this earthcoin question for WolfessStudios from reddit:

How would I make a full node for bitcoin? I have the server but no idea what client to use. Would like to give EAC more reliable nodes since there doesn't seem to be much and never on continuous.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Earthcoin/comments/2wyrky/how_to_make_a_full_node_for_earthcoin/

I hate reddit, so I'll answer here.

using either earthcoind or earthcoin-qt, it's the same. They just need to have server=1 and daemon=1 in the .conf file, and have it continuously running. Simple as that Cheesy

Yeap .. back to my ranting, the newbie jail had very good reasons to be there. Now it is not .. you can see how the things are going.

As a guy that absolutely hates newbie bashing, I am forced to agree with you. Newbies, you do well to educate yourself. BCT is full of information. some of it very good and very interesting.

Or to quote an old proverb, it  is better to be thought an ass than to open one's mouth and prove it.
963  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 25, 2015, 07:43:01 AM
12U, 16kw, 10 replaceable hashing boards.
IMHO, if you came out with something like 4U/5Kw/3 or 4 board version in the 20-25TH range you'd make a killing.  I think that would still keep the home miner in the game as basically anyone with 5 SP20's running today should/would be able to convert over to this. As with the SP30/31/35 the rack mount form factor would be great for those of us in a datacenter setting.
I would absolutely buy one of your third generation units at a 4U form factor, i can not imagine it costing you that much more to release both form factors simultaneously. Since if you did released it to industrial miners first they would have the advantage of the new ASIC technology before the home miners giving the industrial miners more of an advantage. Releasing both form factors simultaneously however would create a more level playing field. You would also gain even more respect then you already have amongst the Bitcoin community. Furthermore in the long run this might even be the most profitable strategy for spoondoolies, since what is good for Bitcoin is also good for spondoolies. that is one of the beautiful things about Bitcoin, it is supposed to align incentives towards good. Smiley
Launching two product lines simultaneously isn't feasible. As with our previous gens, we'll be open to sell our ASICs.
The 3 months lead time on the ASICs kill most of those deals.
If it at all helps to do pre-orders, i think you should. I would pre-order a 4u or 2u third generation unit and i am sure many other people here would do so as well, i bought my sp31's on a pre order as well after all. Smiley
Thank you for your suggestion. However, due to the technology risk of our 3rd gen tech, we don't think it's suitable for pre-orders by non accredited investors.
We're working on funding the masks set and initial batch not through pre-orders.

Don't underestimate how important it is that this company is actively resisting pre-orders.

This. There is exactly ONE reason I don't have any spondoolies equipment. I'm too poor Cheesy I have followed this thread and interacted with a number of miners who did manage to get their lucky hands on one, and I've yet to hear of anything truly awful. A few bumps and bruises, and quickly resolved when they happened. Pre-orders are not necessarily egregious, but so much bad has come of them in this market that I think SP does well to avoid them.

I believe this is correct. I exported the priv key and followed your instructions, and still no luck, any other ideas??

have you resynced the block chain? it may be on a fork given the recent changes. It shouldn't be with the current client (you are up to date) but it's still possible that if you updated after the fork that you have remained on a bad fork. That happened to me. (totally my fault, I knew about the update and had other things going on). deleting the block chain and resyncing fixed it for me.

Will there be a Linux version of the new wallet released in the future?

As long as the source is posted, just compile your own.

@noise23 , may i know why the 2 wallets , trk and tek both done by you . but stake diffently. tek wallet now flawless stakes in mins. but trk still need hours ? thanks for the wonderful work on the tek wallet

A lot of different people have contributed to TEK over it's history. I think Noise didn't do anything with the staking engine, though I'm not entirely certain of that. The part he was having me test had to do with checkpointing and excluding older clients from the chain to prevent forking issues.

Of course, I could be wrong Cheesy
967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | Security Fork 2/13/15 - Most PoS Coins Vulnerable!!!! on: February 21, 2015, 09:47:17 PM
For the config file, is the file name 'HyperStake.conf' (case sensitive, I assume)?

Thanks!

My config works fine with all lowercase.

This is OS sensitive. for Linux, it must be HyperStake.conf or it will be ignored. I think this is true for Mac users as well, but I can't swear to it. For windows, it can be HyPersTaKe.ConF and it will still work. Annoying, but true Cheesy

Iron Maiden? West Ham United? Or both?

I think Maiden and WHU FC, of course!
Sorry, i am football fan too. He-he...

I'm an american. I am of course aware of where Iron Maiden’s phrase came from, been a fan since about '82, but I've never watched the team Tongue

Apparently HYP had a security problem with PoS.  Anything that can affect TEK?

Probably. Once Presstab's code is fully tested, I am going to talk to him about how to implement it in tek. Not sure I have sufficient skill, but if I do, I'll let y'all know. even sans the vulnerability, it will be nice to have more efficient CPU usage for staking.

Perfect! Keep trying to stake. I am getting some orphans right now too. Remember that you don't lose anything if you have an orphan. Click on tools->repairwallet to clear your orphans.

Thanks. Keep thrashing and good luck! (Sorry, i am old school metalhead).

Is there seriously going to be a true hard-fork with a few hours notice? If so, you are looking at a major train wreck.

Have the services that use/support  Hyperstake been notified? I know I haven't, I only noticed it because it popped up in my reply post list.

Exchanges, explorers, gambling, etc etc?? All these services need time to get setup even after they are notified.

How many users are going to end up on a forked chain because they didn't happen to come to a forum where it has been announced in the last few hours?

Major exchanges have been notified, most of our services have been notified. You were on my list as well, just hadn't got there yet. Trying to do a lot of things at once here.

Quote
I was hoping that this was really going to be a soft fork until I saw this in the code currently in github:

Code:
 if (pfrom->nVersion < 72099)
{
printf("partner %s using an old client %d, disconnecting\n", pfrom->addr.ToString().c_str(), pfrom->nVersion);
pfrom->fDisconnect = true;

I hope it is for testing purposes, and you are not intending to truly block out version 72000 from the new client (In  other words a true hard fork) in the next few hours or even days.

This has to be a misunderstanding on my part. When is the hard-fork actually going to be enforced?

This was for my own personal testing. This should be doable via softfork, but I am sure old clients will be likely to get off on their own forks if not updated. Its hard to say for sure. At first we were planning on going all out and getting our whole list of fork items crossed off the list. This is just too much now, and too quick in advanced. I will simply be changing the timedrift code to 60 seconds. No difficulty changes or other changes. Hope this answers your questions, I will get you the updated code as soon as I have it.

No matter how much work someone puts into something, time, effort, sweat and tears, there will always be some douchebag(s) that will try to undermine all of your work...

Excuse me??

It is obvious you do not know who I am, nor do you understand what is going on. The only "douchebag" I see here is yourself.

Next time try to comprehend what is going on and who it involves before you make incorrect statements and embarrass yourself.

I don't think it was aimed at you Cheesy Just a general comment that if there is an exploit, some jackass will use it.
972  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [TEK] TEKcoin 500% PoS/PoW hybrid SuperStake on: February 13, 2015, 06:03:15 PM
I'm not able to run the wallet. After that notification it crashes. Looking in the AppData\Roaming\tekcoin folder I have deleted the "blkindex.dat", but that doesn't resolve the issue. I have tried to delete everything, except wallet.dat, and have file "blk0001.dat" that will not allow me to delete it. So at this point I'm about to safe mode and scrub the .dat file.

Make a copy of wallet.dat and tekcoin.conf, put them in a safe place.

Reboot to make sure that all wallet processes are stopped.

Delete EVERYTHING in the tekcoin folder.

copy wallet.dat and tekcoin.conf to the folder

restart the tekcoin-qt client.

last step? Wait. A while. It can take several hours to sync Tongue There is also a bootstrap available which will shorten the time. I personally favor syncing from zero, but I'm paranoid. Your mileage may vary on that Cheesy

  Now you can say that the FIRE almost went out, after getting GrinZ from Multifaucet to add FIRE to GrinZ's site. He or She was unable to get FIRE to not stake (comand-line option gen=0 not included in the Release?), which I find weird given the several other PoS coins on the site? Could just be an update needed, only a wallet coder would know that info?

   Second is that now the actual blocks have stopped (Started again), which I seen coming long ago & just couldn't do anything about it. I'm not able to code the wallet, just learning how to read it & see the differences in some areas. Here is a (almost) HARDFORK, just like you would see in a PoW coin (certain amount of blocks in a row)...

int64_t nSubsidy = 5 * COIN;

The amount of people staking/connections & weight of the network would have been like forking a PoW coin with a very low hashrate network. With the few people who hold FIRE, it's not possible to send coins in small amounts & PoS mine. The only way that will work, having a good distribution & miners spread out. There are 7 forked githubs, lets see if this coin (app) is ment to be or not (simple fix for the ones with knowledge)? Was somewhat hoping to see this as something like the Clean Water Coin, Sustainable Fire & finding a way to help those in need around the world with keeping warm. It would take someone interested in FIRE though (community), we will have to wait & see.

   On a side note, glad to see many other coins (apps) are starting to see the PoS mining is the same as PoW mining (in certain ways). Many ways you could look at it, comparing to automobiles is the best way for me to explain what I see. PoW is like the first models (our classics & first inventions), PoS is like the newer models (more efficiency & second inventions) & a few others (the right mix of them = PoW+PoS+IoT+***) that are certain to be seen over the next year. <<This is what I've seen from all of this over the last few months of Total time logged in: 37 days, 16 hours and 8 minutes just studying as Testing Crypto. PoW alone will not suffice & PoS alone will not suffice, both are closer to reliable transactions (2 wheel to 4 wheel, multiple ways of traction on the block chain) & still many 3rd/4th & maybe even 5th options not yet in testing...

A simple fix for the configuration is reservebalance=<someridiculouslyhugenumber>. gen=0 is for proof of work only, as far as I know, and no longer applicable. Reservebalance will not allow anything below that number to stake.

i have one of my sp20 feeded by 3 psu with 18awg: corsair 550w for 2loops, 2 nonames for the other 2 loops. settings as posted yesterday:

Temp Front / Back T,B    12 °C / 55,54 °C
Fan Speed    70
Start Voltage    0.67 / 0.67 / 0.67 / 0.67
Max Voltage    0.72
Max Watts    220 / 220 / 220 / 220
Mining Rate: 1439.78Ghs

is true that ambient is pretty low, like 5-10C. cable might be warm a bit, can't really say for sure

got an dps2000bb with special board and 16awg cables. full load ~300w and cables still at room temp!

For that matter, why can't you just buy the connectors and make your own with say 14 or 12 gauge? Or is that going to cause problems with the PSU? Physically doing it is easy.

EDIT: Not sure what I did, but this was supposed to be a reply to:
Please explain, WHY are we still using PCIe connectors?

Why not give terminal points, insert wire and secure, Let me run 8awg wire straight in, less wire.

Time we move away from crappy pcie Smiley

As far as I know thepool.pw was the only TEK multi pool available and altcoinpool.us the only dedicated TEK pool that was working fine, it seems at the moment there is no pool to mine TEK, I am probably wrong but haven't been able to find anything.

I had forgotten about iSpace. From my past experience, they occasionally have some ugly technical problems and I hate their interface. But the guy running them is reputable and they fix the technical problems quickly when they happen. The other is a personal problem Tongue

I'll see if I can afford to put up a TEK pool. If I do, it will be MPOS, 1 percent. If any of you are interested, say so.
977  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [Poll] Free Ross OR Kill Ross <search for public opinion> on: February 07, 2015, 12:32:01 AM
This guy created a market for illegal activity to be conducted. If you believe he's a "pioneer of freedom" then you also must agree that the person that organizes sex trafficking of children is a pioneer of freedom.

I want to hear some reasons why this guy is a "pioneer of freedom"...

Government people (not all of them, maybe not the majority of them) under their disguise as government people, do way more propagating of evil than Ross could ever even think of.

The government sees to it that millions of innocent people in other countries are murdered, using as the excuse, "They got in the way when we were after some bad guys." Killing off innocent people in the name of hunting down bad guys is completely wrong.

In America, Canada and the U.K., the law is, let your accuser get on the stand and validate that you did wrong through oath or affirmation, speaking it into the record. Wrong doing doesn't include breaking some Law Code of the government except if you have a signed contract to obey that Law Code. Wrongdoing only includes harming a person with actual harm, damaging a person's property with actual damage, or breaking a signed contract where you have explicitly agreed to the terms of the contract.

Millions of Americans are in jail in America simply because they unwittingly and unknowingly made a contract with government when, at their court trial, they affirmed that they were being represented by someone else (usually an attorney) or when they represented themselves. They did no wrong. They simply, accidentally, unknowingly, made a contract. They didn't even know that they made a contract. How can you see that they made a contract by being represented? You can see it in the question, "Why do I need representation? I am present!"

It's a trick, folks. It's a big trick perpetrated by government. When the courts try you under the representation contract, they find you guilty according to their rules, not according to any harm or damage that you may have done. Then they throw you into prison for smoking a joint, or for multitudes of kinds of petty little things that HARMED OR DAMAGED NOBODY.

Government people are way more your common crooks than Ross could ever imagine being even if he happened to be evil incarnate. Why? Because they constantly deny people their rights through ignorance of the law. And then they rob and jail and even murder their victims. And now Ross is one of their victims by this same methodology.

Consider. An attorney is first and foremost an officer of the court. The attorney doesn't owe you anything except that the court tells him he does. When he represents you, this is CONFLICT OF INTEREST. It is the way government is criminally acting against all the people of the land.

Ross should be given a medal. He should be given a medal for helping to bring this thing about the courts to light.

The one important word that is destroying our freedom in the courts is REPRESENTATION. If we weren't represented in the courts by an attorney or by ourselves, but rather, if we were present as a man or woman, most of the codes and laws wouldn't apply. Only harm, damage, or breaking a contract (which is harm or damage) would apply to us.

Free Ross. Free us all!

Smiley

<blink>

What the hell were you and I disagreeing on before?

I fully endorse this!

I am unimpressed with him, but your first sentence and your second are logically contradictory. Illegal and immoral are NOT equivalent. Everything the Nazi regime did to the Jews and other "undesirables" was legal. Those who helped them escape were engaging in illegal activities.
Use of drugs is NOT illegal in the United States, regardless of what the politicians have decreed. The Constitution of the United States, while frequently ignored, is their only claim to legitimacy, and it DOES NOT authorize them to regulate or ban drugs. This would require an amendment, as the Volstead act did. They are unwilling to go there, because they know (and knew) exactly what these edicts will do and have done to society. In this sense, I do believe that the Silk Road was a frontier for freedom, in that it took away a great deal of violence and uncertainty in the black markets that the DEA and it's predecessors deliberately and cynically foisted on the world.

ok that is nice. my wallet shows always syncing but then stakes with no problem. Always says 95540 blocks remaining.

I"m guessing here, but I'm thinking it likely that the blocks are taking a long time because of low network connections. I've seen this with TRK. The height is correct, but the wallet thinks it's not due to checkpointing being way behind the clock. I don't have FIRE open at the moment, as I'm migrating computers, but I'd bet that is the case. Have a look at how long it's been since the last block, and if it's fairly long, that is probably the case.

Been working on the stake hashing code. Basically recoded it all. Right now I have it down from 7-12% of my cpu while staking, to 0-1% of my cpu while staking. I still have to make sure this code is solid before I commit it to github. I am producing stakes that are being accepted by the network though Smiley

Gonna try to push that to HBN too? Or is the codebase too different?
