Doesn't seem like this bug places any risk on stored wallet funds, so it is unlikely to have much of an affect on the market. As the article says, the bug has already been fixed, cudos to the Bitcoin Core team for such a quick response.

Might be a fair compromise to have an additional level of copper member that gains additional features by paying for them, but the cost should be sufficiently high so that your typical signature spammer won't want to fork out the cash. Or maybe the simplest way around it would be to allow members to disable signature visibility entirely, so we don't have to be plagued by their advisements.

Due to the increased popularity of cryptocurrencies, there has been an increased number of scammers both in terms of ICOs and in social media. You would find "official" representatives that would "propose lucrative deals" in the name of the legit company. There is only one result as a consequence - you losing your assets. Thus, always keep in mind that real official channels of communications work. Also, if you see those posts in social media promising returns without a legit background (a.k.a. a full-blown platform) is a sure way to lose money. Creating bots on Facebook, Twitter, and Telegram is quite easy these days. Some of the Facebook groups that were excellent in terms of trading discussions now turned into scam marketing sites. Nothing you can do about it other than educate yourselves and others, there are some quite clever scams out there that target the noobs. Unfortunately, there is no central force that takes it upon themselves to inform the community to ensure these types of scams less successful, meaning hundreds of people still fall victim to them every day. How can you be making posts about how easy it is to rank up from a Newbie to Jr. member when you still have not accomplished it yourself? This is clearly an attempt to gain merit yourself, which I hope other users see through before awarding you merit.

I applaud Theymos for the change, I know Hilarious was pushing for something like this for a long time, glad it has finally been implemented. I dare say that 5 merits would have been better than 1 however as this would have made identifying merit trades and sales a lot easier, but it's a step in the right direction.
Just want to remind everybody that we are likely to see a huge influx of new Newbies spamming the merit Meta section in the hopes of grabbing that elusive single merit. I would hope that before handing out merit to newbies to check their post history to see if they were previously a bounty spammer suddenly posting a "merit worthy" post so they can get back to their spamming ways.
With that in mind, how do you guys think we should best distribute merits to the ones who genuinely deserve it? What should merit sources look out for, and how can we prevent spammers simply going back to their old ways after getting the 1 merit (as they will likely get one eventually).
I would base merit handouts based on if the post changed your point of view on something or introduced you to something brand new that helps your life in some way. Spammers going to spam. So if you give out your merit for an post that changes you in some way then it seems like a fair trade. I would not attempt to predict what the merit receivers next move will be. Your better of spending that time predicting the market. Both are about impossible tasks however if you get the prediction right on the market there is a nice payout. The problem is, I suspect many merit handouts are made on the basis of a single post, rather than the cumulative history of the poster. This means that bounty spammers need only make a single merit worthy post (not difficult at all) in order to rank up and return to their spammy ways. |

- Forum posts must be at least 100 words long, and posted on a relevant cryptocurrency forum. A maximum of 10 forum posts per person are allowed (2 per forum).
- Make sure to include your ETH address at the bottom of your post or article so we can ensure your work is not plagiarized.
- All content must be original and hence free of plagiarism, if your articles fail plagiarizing checks you will be denied for stakes. Do not simply copy and paste somebody elses work, or the website/whitepaper.
- Articles with no, or very little viewership will be denied for rewards, fake or boosted view counts will be disqualified.
