321  Economy / Gambling / Re: directbet very strange , cricket bettors please STOP on: October 11, 2014, 08:57:57 PM
Dead heat rules never apply when only 2 teams are involved in 2 way betting. All money should be refunded. The rules should be amended if DirectBet is still enforcing the dead heat rule under these circumstances.
Raina & Kohli tied for first in a bet pool with >2 options (I'm assuming). The rule was applied exactly as it's described.
322  Economy / Speculation / Re: China volume negligible???? on: October 11, 2014, 08:49:51 PM
i thought china banned bitcoin?
"On 5 December 2013, China Central Bank barred financial institutions from handling Bitcoin transactions, moving to regulate the virtual currency. The People's Bank of China said financial institutions and payment companies can’t give pricing in Bitcoin, buy and sell the virtual currency or insure Bitcoin-linked products, according to a statement on the central bank’s website. On 16 December it was speculated that the People's Bank of China had issued a new ban on third-party payment processors from doing business with Bitcoin exchanges, however a statement from BTC China suggests this isn't accurate, and rather payment processors had voluntarily withdrawn their services. Trading bitcoins by individuals is however legal in China." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_Bitcoin_by_country

Wow. People like me and many others struggle to even get 0.1BTC to trade with and re-invest, but some can take 2BTC and throw it out on gambling. Depressing. Not attacking you OP, I know what addiction is like (drugs). Just saying that it is amazing Sad

0.1BTC is 35$, why would you waste hours trading to get that. Even the most simple jobs would pay more.

There are plenty of people who gamble with way more money then 2 BTC and can afford to lose it. The OP unfortunately, couldn't.
Hello American, Canadian, Middle-Easterner, European, Afrikaner, or Russian. It may surprise you to know geography is the greatest factor in determining rate of pay* and that almost half of all people live on less than $2.50/day, which includes a great many employed people.

*Except for Internet weidos using magic Internet money, I guess.

I'm pretty sure this is a textbook example of irresponsible advertising. Cheesy

Ew. Where did you see that?

Suggesting that gambling is a good way to recover from trading losses is pretty misleading.

Also, freeciv is a open sauce project that could be incorporated somehow?
Freeciv's almost entirely in C which'd be very difficult for this game to be coded in, I imagine. Probably nothing can be taken unless there's some way to convert some of Freeciv's assets to whatever this is written in.
327  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Swiss Vote on Gold Standard (20% backing) on: October 11, 2014, 02:10:44 PM
Check your sources. The popular vote on November 30th isn't about reinstating some kind of a gold standard at all. It's about bringing back to Switzerland some gold which is stored in foreign countries, and mandating the Swiss National Bank to keep 20% of its assets in gold (7.6% now). Comparing with the US or most countries doesn't work, as Switzerland has very little debt. Switzerland doesn't print money like the US, even if some Swiss wish it would, because the biggest problem there is how to stop the Swiss franc from getting more valuable, which hurts exports. I'm old enough to remember the days when one US dollar was buying 3 Swiss francs, check what it's worth now.

The Swiss I know are against the gold initiative because gold investments are much less lucrative than the stock market.
You know, I'm so cynical now, I see a government trying to mandate banks keep gold in reserve (or a gold-backed currency) as crony capitalism looking to pump the gold market for politicians' & "business leaders'" gain. I guess any possible action looks like crony capitalism if you think long enough.
328  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If bitcoin was real coins, Would you pick 1500 satoshis off the ground? on: October 11, 2014, 02:03:06 PM
I will pick any coins on the ground that has value.

Even if such a coin is worth for 0.6 cent?
Wouldn't it be wiser for you to spend your time on a part-time work or self learning instead of picking up those 0.6 cent coins?
Not likely. If someone could bend down and pick up pennies consistently all day, they could ideally make significantly above minimum wage. (very, very ideally)

Assume it takes you 3 seconds to bend down and pick up $.006 once you have a rhythm down. You'd collect $.12/minute or $7.20 per hour. This sounds crappy, but it's worth noting you'd really have no enforceable tax liability, so if you've already maxed out your EITC working a regular job for the year, this could be an exceptionally fantastic part-time job. Plus you get to pick your own hours and have no boss less Coinstar.

Sats are more difficult, though, since you'd probably want to sweep them (or organize a sendmany), which could add an extra few seconds to the process. -So now all we need is a street filled with kilosats. ETA: I guess if they're physical coins, no extra time's added since you could use the coins as-is.

ETA2: This would make for an interesting prison/labor camp. Instead of breaking rocks, just spread $50 in near-worthless coins on the ground for recess.

play poker instead of casino games

They will both lead you to losing money imo...
Probably. I don't think I've ever heard of an actual success story where a gambling addict turns his life around by playing poker. I'd guess there's a selection bias among people who choose to play poker where they're probably much less likely to be addicts. Poker takes a long time to play through in most instances, especially if there's an initial buy-in and last man standing takes all (well, unless you do something really dumb, I guess) -- with a large table, you can still have high stakes and a relatively low buy-in. $20 can last you a couple hours and still feel engaging, no problem.

ETA: OTOH, poker tends to punish greed, so... maybe.

How is the name pronounced? You have the "A" in "Ass" capitalized, so "Bad Ass Sex," I'd guess? Is the sex badass, or is it bad anal sex? Sex with people who have bad asses? -And then what does that mean - are we talking rectal prolapse or they're saggy or something? Inquiring minds want to know.

You are a particle
I am atoms
You are atoms
We are atoms
True enough. When I was younger, I decided it'd be good life experience to live in a dilapidated warehouse for a handful of months. Eventually, I came to the realization that there are no true squares or triangles (or any other hard-angle shapes) and that geometry was mostly a load of shit. Those're the kind of mind-blowing, utterly useless epiphanies anyone can experience with no mental stimulation and unlimited free time.
332  Other / Off-topic / Re: winter is just around the corner, How are you keeping warm? on: October 11, 2014, 05:47:00 AM
The old ones could survive without electrical warming of any kind, even near the polar zone.

I think we can do too, and save our energy bill the planet.
Hm? I think we're working toward the same goal. I'd love to hang out in Canada during the 60*F-low Summers. Electrical warmth in the short-term means natural warmth in the long-term.

Here's a dump of PMs in HTML format I've verified as being in the account which I guess is important for some reason (not following this and have 0 interest). I don't find the few PMs I've scanned which weren't from account sales PMs to be compromising to an unreasonable extent. https://mega.co.nz/#!rtckxQTC!tcLBdOnQerR10z1k2RgYhGTccLykzHlyCIEZr2rI5RA

hehe i scam u
Then I'd guess you're either JRO or mixmastermine or Nefario or Pirate (ugh) or... actually, I think my first BTC transaction was trying to try LSD which I was scammed out of. Probably should have learned then... Hm.

Oh, wait - I bet you're that asshole from RC&Me which conveniently closed shop with a disappearing staff while never filing bankruptcy proceedings after I placed a significant order for test batteries. -Or you work for Frontier... -Or you're the wallet-stealing plumber.

Would you be mad if I pooped in your pants?

You are a famous scammer. I want to scam as good as you.
Is pooping in someone's pants some kind of popular scam in third-world countries? -Like you borrow someone's pants and then return them soiled? Huh
337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Steve Jobs was Satoshi. on: October 11, 2014, 04:50:34 AM
Hmmm... Maybe Jobs was trying to salvage his legacy. It'd make for a fantastic documentary if true. Does Apple continue on with ApplePay if Jobs created Bitcoin?
338  Other / Off-topic / Re: 24h... 12 deaths on: October 11, 2014, 04:44:07 AM
Over 150,000 people die everyday. What makes these car crashes any more tragic than any of the other many deaths that will have happened today in the world or in or near your peaceful little town that didn't make the news?
54 million a year, that would end humanity in about 100 years or so.
I guess, if it weren't for >367k born every day.

*You can now pause and unpause (set to last speed) time flow by pressing your space bar. Only applicable in "Main" or "Stats" page.
Doesn't that sound trivial?

It took me about two hours to figure out how to write this. I tried "gut feeling" for a good while, testing and realizing I messed up. Then, I tried writing down my logic in Notepad. Over and over and over, simulating the results and still messing up because my timing was off.

Finally, I settled on:
"IF
   Speed = 0x
      Set tempspeedcarryover to speedcarryover

IF
   Speed =/= 0x
      Set speedcarryover to speed
      Set tempspeedcarryover to 0x

IF
   Speed = 0x
      Set speedcarryover to 0x

ALWAYS
      Set speed to tempspeedcarryover"

Here's my "simulation" of it:
User has 0x speed. User has 4x speedcarryover.
   Tempspeedcarryover set to speedcarryover (4x).
   Speedcarryover set to 0x.
   Speed set to tempspeedcarryover (4x).
Next instance.
   Speedcarryover set to speed (4x).
   Tempspeedcarryover set to 0x.
   Speed set to tempspeedcarryover (0x).
Next instance.
   Tempspeedcarryover set to speedcarryover (4x).
   Speedcarryover set to 0x.
   Speed set to tempspeedcarryover (4x)
Next instance.
   Speedcarryover set to speed (4x).
   Tempspeedcarryover set to 0x.
   Speed set to tempspeedcarryover (0x).

That was great! I finally figured it out. -But Construct doesn't accept my goofy brain syntax. -So I started trying to figure out this elaborate way of checking things with 5 or so events, then an event with sub-events, and every time, it failed after the first time-flow change.

In the end, two hours of chain-smoking and brow-furrowing gave the final product:

 Cheesy
