1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][TELOS][airdrop]Transcencence blockchain POS POStorage POfComputing on: August 01, 2018, 12:57:38 AM
There is another project called Telos, which seems much bigger. It is a fork of EOS and is doing a lot of development.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Power of Neo on: May 23, 2018, 09:46:10 AM
Thanks for this thread! I've been hodling NEO since the Antshares days. One of my favorite pick-me-ups on a low day is to claim 20-30 gas and go trade them for more NEO. I've been doing this weekly or so for quite a while and you really can grow your NEO stack. I love that you don't need to keep a staking wallet open like with other coins.

NEO has a few problems--it's way too centralized right now, for example--but I trust that they will work this out in time. It's a good project. As someone who creates smart contracts and tokens in various projects, I will say that you really don't want to underestimate the power of robust programming languages like C# over new kludgy ones like Solidity. The devil is in the details, they say, and it's so very true with smart contracts. The little gotchas really slow down development on Solidity projects versus C#, C++, or Java.

I expect that NEO will be the preeminent coin for smart contracts where identity is burned-in to the protocol. I expect that EOS or TRX will come to rule for identity-agnostic smart contract projects. As a developer, I strongly feel that Gen-2 projects like Ethereum will eventually fade in favor of the more robust programming of Gen-3 blockchains. But it will take time.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Launches the New Antminer B3 Miner on: May 09, 2018, 03:03:59 PM
All,
Curious to know if anyone else is seeing the same behaviors as me.

1) No matter the pool configuration order, 0 and 2 are always marked dead.
Bmminer always chooses pool priority 1, regardless of the port.
Same behavior for 443, 6666 and 25.

2) Rejected share rates seem to be very high. Roughly 45% in my case. It doesn’t appear that my profitability has been affected at the pool, but I’d like some anecdotal feedback that others are seeing the same reject rates.

Does anyone know if these are all getwork ports at the moment?
The only pool source released by BYTOM is getwork-based, and no formal stratum protocol reference has been published.
I suspect Antpool plans on deprecating GETWORK support on ports 6666 and 443.

Cheers,
9600

I'm getting "Alive" on all three pools and priority is given to pool 0. Also, I am receiving Getworks on all three pools. (Though pool 0 is the most by far.) This may be a local issue for your miner. However, my rejected share rate is generally in line with yours.

Just another data point in case it helps diagnose your issue. Good luck!
4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 09, 2018, 07:45:19 AM
A couple of thoughts about the very moderate efficiency improvement. First, I wouldn't be surprised if they are just reducing the hashing board voltage by 1-2 volts. You can do this on the D3 with the Blissz firmware and it lowers the electrical usage without seeming to lower the hash rate. (sometimes undervolting even improves it a bit.) I also notice that they are quoting AC electrical usage as +10% now. If my memory isn't completely out of whack, I recall they used to quote it as +/- 5%. Anyone else remember this?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: X3 Mining ETN - High Discarded/rejected Amount? - Low hashrate on pool? Low pay on: May 08, 2018, 11:22:52 PM
It seems very high, but also in line with the discard rate that I have been getting on my X3 units across various pools and coins. Some are better than others. I suspect that the miner is too fast for the pools and the difficulty needs to be set much higher. One thing that will help is to look for the highest difficulty port for each pool you're on. This will often be port 7777 or 8888.
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: which wallet saport ERC 20 token on: May 07, 2018, 09:45:39 AM
You can store ERC-20 tokens on any Ethereum wallet. MyEtherWallet, MyCrypto (essentially a fork of MEW), Metamask are all good options. For security, it's best to use a hardware cold wallet like a Trezor or Ledger Nano to hold your keys. Because the keys never leave your HW wallet, these are impervious to the kinds of attacks that just hit MEW.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer L3 + + is the trick of bitmain on: May 05, 2018, 08:36:02 AM
The upgrades in most of these miners is purely firmware and Bitmain's comfort at running higher freqs. Think about it, the ASIC chips are not changing--they're hard coded and they aren't about to re-spin the fab. Bitmain did do a slight form factor change on the D3, but that was inconsequential. From playing with the settings, it's easy to add 10-15% efficiency to a miner as long as it's properly cooled. Some even benefit (or at least perform equally) from undervolting.

Just one guy's advice, but I've increased my profits by playing with my Advanced page settings to get more out of the chips without adding discards or overheating.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer B3 Bytom Mining First review on: May 05, 2018, 08:30:35 AM
Very odd that Antpool is the only pool for Bytom, BUT they report finding 0 blocks. Meanwhile there's a whale miner out there who's up $2M.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Launches the New Antminer B3 Miner on: May 05, 2018, 08:27:13 AM
There's every reason to assume that Bytom IS Bitmain, like Tether is Bitfinex.
10  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Cryptocurrency Billionaire Dies on: May 05, 2018, 08:03:15 AM
XRP is deeply embedded in the banking system since its use case is to replace the antiquated SWIFT banking system. In the most technical terms it is a cryptocurrency, in that it is a currency that is not issued by a government and is secured by cryptographic hashes. However, many in crypto don't consider it a true crypto because it is not decentralized and transactions can be charged-back by the centralized owner. There are a few other negatives as well for investors in that the company Ripple was funded by sales of XRP, and is doing very well, but many of it's products do not use the XRP token at all. Only their XRapid product needs it. One of 5 product lines for them, I think.  XRP is sort of the Uncle Tom of cryptos given its close relation to the existing banking system. But perhaps it's a bridge to bring the real world closer to crypto, who knows?
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: May 05, 2018, 07:36:48 AM
The final Blissz D3 system that's out there is so great. I have it on all of my D3s. (If only I'd stuck with S9s, but I had to "diversify"). The interface is so much more attractive. It offers the option of setting freq and volts on each board. And you can optimize fans for performance or sound. It really sucks that a couple of people scared him off from continuing his dev work. It was far more accessible than the bitmain FW.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is selling Bitcoin? on: May 05, 2018, 07:16:48 AM
I strongly beleive that Bitcoin has the practical purpose. There is no use of it if you keep it in the wallet endlessly.
In some moment you have to sell it and exchange it for fiat or use it for direct payments.
When is the moment for selling each user decides for himself depending on the needs.
It's good to have certain sum of Bitcoin as a saving but Bitcoin is created to be actively used.

Exactly. I feel like people who only HODL but never buy and sell in BTC or alts are sort of tourists & speculators. If you really believe in the power of crypto then use it to build a better, cooler world.

That said, I eagerly await the day when converting crypto to fiat seems quaint and archaic.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is selling Bitcoin? on: May 05, 2018, 07:13:21 AM
I sell bitcoin. I hate to do it, of course, but it's the economy of how my business works. We mostly get paid in BTC or other crypto. We also have a multi-petahash mining op. These support our blockchain software development. So most months I need to sell BTC to cover rent, salaries, insurance, taxes, electricity, etc. It's a great month when I can sell less BTC than I've made, but we're still early in development cycles for most of our tools.

I hate selling BTC but this allows us to pay for professional development without resorting to ICOs (which I think are often-not always-quite scammy). In the long run, I think this is a worthwhile tradeoff.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Obelisk tech to release Miner for Decred with the DCR1 on: May 04, 2018, 05:50:57 AM
People are selling batch 2 Obelisk miners for less than the new batch price (and you'll receive them sooner, too) on the Discord channel.

I should do this...but they are MY doorstops damn it......(er wait ...that is the 5 obelisk sc-1 siacoin miners.....)

er...nevermind...I'm getting my ONE decred miner (August? 2018) 2nd batch? for FREE...or/er/well for 4 800 buck 1/2 off coupons...and the other $800 covered

(tried to talk my buddy out of it ..but he is a whale and got like 15 decred miners so WTF...no one listens to me...)

So, for once I may actually KNOW I can ROI on an ASIC unit of some kind! Just have to beat $1 over the electric cost!

(Dare to Dream!) ...er but than again...I have 5 obelisk doorstops...so meh! Sad

Yeah, I have a few of each coming in Batch 2. Wishful thinking? I hate to sell at the going rate among miners and I can't bring myself to knowingly weasel some noob on ebay, so I guess I'm left with overclocking and cheap KWHs.

16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: L3+ Does... literally nothing on: April 28, 2018, 02:16:49 AM
Did you check that the PSU works? In my experience, PSUs are fare more fallable than miners.

Also, any chance you are plugging into a switch that has Power of Ethernet? PoE often messes with the L3_IO board. It can take multiple reset cycles to bring them back online.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: All The Hosting Companies / Farms For Mining Machines And The Very Best Ones on: April 28, 2018, 02:04:40 AM
You don't need to have anyone else change your D3 to switch to another pool. Just point to a different pool on your configure miner tab of the miner's web interface. You could also point to NiceHash or a coin switching pool like zpool.ca which automatically chases the most profitable coin at the moment. You may need to learn a bit more about configuring ASICs, but don't be discouraged. It will make sense. Your D3 can only ever mine X11 coins, but it can easily be switched to mine any of them by just pointing them to the right stratum server. Also, the most profitable coin long term is often not the most profitable at any given moment. What matters is the price when you sell.

Good luck.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Need Power Supply for Bitmain B3 (7 PCIe connectors and 328W) on: April 28, 2018, 01:56:58 AM
I suspect that we could run 2 B3s off of one APW3++ the same as with L3+s. (Or 1 B3 and 1 L3+). For a while they made a special version of the APW3++ with extra connectors specifically for setting up 2 L3+s on one, but they dropped that from production. However, it's only the connectors that are different so if you get a pack of cheap splitters it should work fine on a B3.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Antminer D3 low hashrate and faulty boards on: April 27, 2018, 09:24:57 PM
D3s are barely worth running. I think they're not worth returning as the shipping costs will be more than the miner will ever make. (IMO - you may see it differently, but do consider the math.) Fortunately, they only consume power relative to their hash power, so it's probably more economical to run them with fewer boards (you can just unplug the PSU connections) and consolidate into other cases as you lose more. Yes, this will void the warranty, but it's frankly worthless. Try to use it and you'll see.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain Antminer X3 -- 220KH+ Cryponight - 550W on: April 27, 2018, 09:19:27 PM
I have an X3 and what I'm seeing is that NiceHash basically reports zero hashes when I point it there for several hours.

Other pools will report hashes but the Rejected Hashes outpace Accepted 10:1 even though there seems to be no problem with the machine. (And when I've pointed to the highest difficulty ports.) Either Bitmain created a horrible machine, or the pools just aren't able to take its hashrate.

I'm no stranger to mining at a loss temporarily -- those losses have generally turned into gains for me after holding long enough. But earning tiny amounts of barely worthwhile coins is not even worth the X3's low power consumption. Sad because this is probably the only modern Antminer that's actually appropriate for home use. If only it broke even. Frankly, it's not even good as a heater!

I will probably point it toward one of the Monero forks for a while before fully giving up on it. In truth, ASIC backed Monero should be every bit as secure as normal Monero and with the power of greater PoW behind it. But whether the market accepts that or not is another question.
