1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: PhoenixMiner 5.1c: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Win/Linux) on: October 11, 2020, 01:20:30 PM
Hey hope someone else has seen this issue and can maybe help shed some light. I recently pulled six 4gb cards from an old rig and moving things around I replaced them with Vega 64s. I've had nothing but trouble with this rig ever since. I've reinstalled windows, drivers, replaced all risers, cables. The problem is after an hour or two a RANDOM gpu will suddenly start reporting an insanely high hashrate, like 632856.283.mh. It even shows pool side. Of course the gpu never finds another share and eventually the whole machine locks. I've been mining for years and I've never seen this error. At this point all 6 cards have had a turn at the impossible hashrate bug so I'm clueless. Any guesses?

At this point I'm thinking of swapping the mobo I guess. I've had these cards for a long time just in another rig and never had an issue with them. But I've also never had an issue with this motherboard. Strange stuff.

Any update on this being implemented for Fiji?

Okay, thanks. I usually do have three or four different start.bats for those very reasons. Dual setups, Eth only different pools etc... One thing I had happen recently that got me thinking along these lines was one of my rigs had a gpu hang and I noticed when the miner restarted I lost fan control on that particular gpu. It got me wondering if that had been setup in config instead of start.bat if it would have made any difference?

Hello miners, I've seen it mentioned several times, some recently, that you should set the majority of parameters in config file, not in a startup.bat. Would one of you kind gentlemen please take a moment to explain why that is the case. I started out early on setting everything in my start.bat. It works and I've just stuck with doing it that way on all my rigs. I guess it's more of a "If it's not broke don't fix it" kind of thing for me. I'm just curious what, if anything, I would gain by changing the way I currently have it set up.
Thanks.

I just read the Verge Blackpaper. XVG can be mined via 5 algorithms and each of these have an independant 30 second blocktime. So if I'm reading this correctly that's 5 blocks every 30 seconds, one for each algo. Also, each algo's difficulty is treated independently based on its respective hashrate. I've searched but can't seem to find anywhere that actually breaks down the five different algos to show the current difficulty for each. All I can find is the chart on coinwarz but it doesn't show any rise in difficulty over the past month so I call bullshit on that. Unless I'm completely wrong and it wouldn't be the first time, I think WTM has got to be using the wrong difficulty for B2s. Seems we flooded the B2s XVG algo with a fuck ton of hashrate in a matter of days and the profitability has plummeted. Really disappointing after what we went through with the asics coming in and ruining the good thing we had with DCR and SIA. I got my hopes up with this new miner and now I'm bummed again. Guess it's back to ETH only for me. At least I can look forward to a lower power bill.

The Verge blocktime is 30 seconds. The difficulty algorithm is designed to ensure a block is found at this consistent interval. To me it's starting to look like WTM isn't using the correct current difficulty for blake2s. We just don't know how the Verge devs manage difficulty across multiple algos. I completely admit this is getting into shit that's way beyond my level of expertise  but it appears to me we're all experiencing a rapid rise in difficulty that's not being shown to us when we check WTM, ergo a bunch of pissed off miners.

Hi all

I just want to share my observations ..

I have been mining XVG since the day Claymore released v11 ..
Lots of ppl complaining about steal and lost shares .. I can not be certain but I have a hunch that the problem is with the blockchain itself and maybe the fact that this coin can be mined via different algos..
Some history ..
First I start mining on nicehash - I will not comment this .. then I found unimining .. atm the pool had around 10THs and I can tell you that my earnings was almost the same as WTM shows .. then the pool hash started to grow .. my shares became smaller and smaller .. BUT WITH THE POOL HASHRATE GREW blocks were not mined faster ... so less blocks with less shares equals less earnings .. then antmine was the next pool for me .. it had 5THs .. ppl grew angry with unimining and transfer to antmine .. so yet again the mining was almost identical to WTM and everything was fine .. until the hashrate became over 20THs .. same problem .. no matter that the pool had more hashes the block count did not grew accordingly .. then nlpool appeared .. SAME issue

SO .. I can not be sure if the pools steal but the FACT is founded block count DO NOT GROW AS EXPECTED ...

I guess we need more pools with 15THs pool hashrate

^ This. I couldn't agree more. This has been my personal take on the matter just based on the math and not whattomine. It's transparent if you care to take the time to figure it out for yourself. Is the percentage of your hashrate to pool total correct? Does the amount your earning per block found equal this percentage minus fees? Mine has been correct across all the pools I've tried however my earnings have been all over the place. I started on antminepool when it was around 4th, and you're exactly right, earnings were at their very best when the pool was between 10th to 15th. After that my percentage per block grew smaller and smaller but the number of blocks found didn't keep pace. It's strange because that's what big pools are supposed to do for us, even out/stabilize our earnings but that's not happening with any of these pools. I went through the same thing with nlpool, although they have other issues going on as well. My guess is they have some sort of network latency issue causing the higher than average number of orphans.

For those of you like me who had XSH earnings appearing on nlpool while only mining for XVG. Yesterday I switched back to antminepool when I saw they had added a new server, (yeah still not very good). This morning I checked on nlpool just to see if they had things going again and guess what... XSH earnings from overnight. The most recent was from a block mined three hours earlier and I haven't had any of my rigs pointed there in over 12 hours. Can't decide if I feel better or worse about it.

Hi guys who tried new drivers 17.12.1 (adrenaline), Claymore 10.2 can not control frequencies and fans

Tried them last night but immediately rolled back to previous driver. Looks like none of the config parameters are being passed through to cards. AMD have implemented the ability to save profiles in Wattman so I guess maybe something about that has broken that functionality in Claymore?? Also 17.12.1 reoriented all my cards, not a huge deal but still a pain in the butt with my setup.

I did a try to install new AMD drivers. The clue is that I am unable to change "GPU workload" setting for one card in a rig. It remains at "Graphics" when I trying change it to "Compute". All other cards (similar ones) switched with no problems.

I had the same problem. Rig of 4 Fury X's with one Pro Duo and the Pro wouldn't switch to compute. I gave up and went back to blockchain drivers. Then I read somewhere someone said they had to restart for it to take effect so I reinstalled the drivers and gave it another shot and it worked. All the Fury x's switch fine with just the driver restart but for whatever reason when I enable it on both of the Pro Duo chips it "appears" like it doesn't work but after a reboot all is well.

I can confirm, at least for my Vega rig, that the new drivers seem more stable than the blockchain drivers. I could never dual mine (eth/dcr) on the blockchain drivers with Vega. I wasted countless hours trying. It's been up on the new drivers for a few days now without a hitch.
