61  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining for fee only is unsustainable. on: June 05, 2011, 12:09:32 PM
You are free to create your own alternative that behaves in the way suggested.
Why do you assume that you can predict how anything looks in 5 years, let alone 20?
62  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SkepsiDyne Integrated Node - A Bitcoin Mining Company on: June 05, 2011, 10:50:51 AM
Summary:

- about 1 Month after IPO and with 8000$ converted from BTC at under 10$ per BTC rate, the shareholders are left with their 0.0x BTC payout from the 2.x gh/s mining operation
- leaves Shareholder of "assumed previous 1 BTC aka now 16$ +" with zero BTC but a virtual stake in 0.0x something BTC payout and the hope to get back to a BTC, sounds like the investment has worked out really well

Why would one person ruin all their work by trashing the reputation of their exchange? Its self-defeating and makes no logical sense. Unless you actually have something to back this up with, you're just defaming someone on a 'hunch'. This doesn't seem wrong to you?

Where have i implied that Tux actually a) intends to do so b) has done so c) has any malicious intent? You assume that i have said or implied that, which is simply false. I am simply pointing out that, given the size of btc economy and the predominant role of mtgox, darkpool sizing could be employed as a tool of monetary policy since it has a rather strong impact on the global btc<->fiat exchange rate, either directly on mtgox or, via arbitrage, on other trading places.
Before ad hominem attacking me, maybe you should invest time to play along with my train of thought that is in no way judging on tux.
Given the infancy and size of the economy it surely cant hurt kicking ideas around on how things actually affect the btc-verse.
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox and the influence on the market on: June 04, 2011, 09:06:19 PM

He just stated a fact that's all, and he is right. MagicTux(and his staff if he has one) is the only person with eyes on everything. Even the dark pool orders can't see other people's dark orders

Indeed, which is kind of the point of my OP, to have a public debate on this. If one would be far fetched, it could be claimed that by setting darkpool size, Tux can directly influence the price of the publicly traded BTC, much like a Central Bank can use prime rate/federal funds rate to adjust the market indirectly.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox and the influence on the market on: June 04, 2011, 06:30:12 PM
can someone explain the darkpool size? I have no idea what that means and I'm curious

darkpool means that orders over a certain size, previously 1k $, now 10k $, are secret from the public mtgox orderstream and do not affect the pricing.
to put it mildly: it allows large traders to game the market and effectively influence pricemovements to their advantage.
given that mtgox is the only, for bitcoin economy at least, large trading entity, the darkpool size effectively governs the size of orders that are not affecting the valueation of bitcoin.

this in effect allows professional traders to buy btc cheap in darkpool at market price with huge volume, then drive the price with a smaller, but for normal trade large order, then selling off to the normal market at now increased pricing, effectively gaming the system.

i think for the bitcoin community as a whole, not having darkpools would make the system alot fairer to the average joe user.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mt.Gox and the influence on the market on: June 04, 2011, 12:21:10 PM
Many argue that Bitcoin is not being influenced or possible to game. Right now we are seeing quite the opposite: Tux increased the Darkpool size from 1k$ to 10k$ orders and with little delay, the BTC valueation skyrockets since the orders under 10k$ now affect the market and exchange rate. I believe that in a way or not, the exchanges to real economies are indeed able to game the market until there is enough competition in that area and vendors accept BTC straight, reducing the need to convert.
What do you think would happen to BTC if the "Darkpools" were fully removed?

69  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A Call to Admins on: June 03, 2011, 12:19:52 PM
Hi Admins of Networks of PC's, Workstations and Servers around the world,

please do not use the resources of the networks, computers and servers to mine for bitcoin. You are damaging to the bitcoin community unless you either own the company or are allowed so p.p. and mine to a "company wallet".
If you are just someone with admin rights who decides to flip on a few hundret CPU to mine, keep in mind that you are not only wasting a shitton of electricity, you are endangering your job, you are stealing electricity but you also damage the bitcoin community as a whole by aiding those "malware naysayers" that start to emerge.
Classifying bitcoin as illegal and malware is one of the first attack vectors we are already starting to materialize by the paypal etc lobby, dont help them for the pathetic gains you get. Lets just visualize the whole gains for YOU for aforementioned issues:
If you administer say 1000 PC's of avg. .edu type, you will see around 3.5mh/s per machine. Lets assume that through load and on and offtimes only 65% are mining 100% 24/7, the rest giving 12h cpu time, we would get an avg daily capacity of 2.275gh/s for 24/7 with another 1.575 gh/s for 12h, giving us a daily avg hashrate of 3gh/s for 1000 PC's steaming away at full load with unefficient PSU etc.

You not find anyone administering a network of this size being pisspoor on payday, so please use your not so shitty income to just buy 3 triple 5850 rigs, thats the same hashing power for 3k $ and 1500w electricity usage.
If that price is too high for a) being an environmentally responsible person who b) doesnt steal from his employer who c) doesnt hurt the bitcoin community by associating it with resource theft then you are, simply put, an a dot hole.
70  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SkepsiDyne Integrated Node - A Bitcoin Mining Company on: June 03, 2011, 02:59:03 AM
There was no vote, I made the decision.

You prove yourself that you are only interested in new investors and ignore the valueation for shareholder of any BTC already in your pocket. Its not a scam, its a mining ponzi scheme you are running to fund your mining operation.
71  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Diablo error help? on: June 03, 2011, 02:27:09 AM
simply put: dont use diablo miner, it is a very problematic miner vs the others, just launching it has bluescreened boxes that went without a hitch for weeks up to the second diablo was launched. speedgains seem to be more of a pr thing and not something that manifests itself in actual mining with independent verification.
72  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Large German lobby organization supports ban on Bitcoins on: June 01, 2011, 01:51:36 PM
It's a shame and a reason why lobbygroups are bad. They claim to be "We are the net", yet it should really mean "We like to tailor politics and policy towards our intestest of maximizing monetization out of the net".
This lobbygroup recently also rallied against a law that would make broadband access everywhere mandatory to providers, even in rural areas.
73  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SkepsiDyne Integrated Node - A Bitcoin Mining Company on: May 30, 2011, 11:03:41 PM
I'll try to be more clear. If Tawsix has to spend an hour every day responding to useless questions, he can't spend those hours on setting up and optimizing bitcoin generation of mining rigs or on any other task that is expected to generate more income. First round of fundraising is already done.

And people like you is why he is still posting, there is always someone on the block investing into a get rich quick "bad investment/scam".

75  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Im thinking of change from Deepbit, recommendations? on: May 28, 2011, 08:55:05 PM
use eligius, its 0% tax and gives a payout via generated transaction, unlike other pools you can verify in blockexplorer that indeed everything was paid out.
76  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Please test: New Experimental Pool "Eligius" on: May 28, 2011, 04:23:13 PM
Come on people, this is the only pool where you can independently verify that you are getting the real payout via blockexplorer, join up!
77  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Bad fan bearing - Sapphire HD 5850 Xtreme on: May 28, 2011, 04:22:13 PM
Today I noticed the fan speed drop in one of my 5850s. When I put the miners to rest and the fan speed went down to idle speeds it made a loud buzzing noise and quite some vibration.

The card is not even two weeks old. I wonder if it happened because I ran it too hot, maybe 85°C.

With the card taken out I can feel additional resistance on rotating the fan by finger. With a strong push it even starts to vibrate.

I took off the fan and removed the sticker on the stationary part, trying to get some motor oil in there. There are some groove arround the center but I am not sure if it got to the bearing.

The noise seems to be better but even at 100% the fan runs more than a thousand rpms slower than the others. I really hope it is only the fan and nothing worse??

Of course I have it running again with the card underclocked and undervolted until I get a new fan. I will try to get one from Sapphire by warranty but sure will not send in the card.

Anyone ever experienced something like that? Recomendations for a replacement fan?

I had exactly the same issue. I set the fan manually to 100% since it seemed to work. The fan died 2 days later it seems, and with it the card. It is RMA'ed now. I assure you the card will not be able to throttle down in time when the fan suddenly dies while mining, so either replace the fan or RMA it. I chose to not RMA it initially due to prefering mining outcome, its all taking chances.
78  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Europäischer Pool? on: May 28, 2011, 02:57:00 PM

79  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SkepsiDyne Integrated Node - A Bitcoin Mining Company on: May 28, 2011, 02:50:49 PM
Cool sample size bro. Given the short length of time and the size of the btcmine pool fluctuation is inevitable. So far the payout for btcmine has been below what I get for a slower hash rate on Deepbit. Give it some time.

stop assuming that i have no numbers to compare to.
given that he claims to have 5 rigs with 5300mh/s, the sample size is sufficient to say that its simply can not be the truth. i have about half of his claimed 5.2gh myself on btcmine myself right now and can say that i have gotten over three times as much as he did in the timeframe his rigs are supposed to be mining.
it can be with great certainity be said that given the numbers btcmine puts out the current hashrate of this total of 4900$ rigs are producing less than 1gh, yet there has been zero communication why the investors money is not being put to work to produce the return of investment.

edit: it can actually be derived from the api that the miner currently active produces over 10% less than the advertised rate: ""hashrate": "959.21""
apparently the OP was using inflated hashrate numbers for triple 5850 that are hard to realize without ample experience, may i enquire what the specific issue is?
80  Economy / Marketplace / Re: SkepsiDyne Integrated Node - A Bitcoin Mining Company on: May 28, 2011, 11:01:16 AM
As far as projecting difficulty increases, I'm no expert on the subject, but from studying several graphs as well as the effects of difficulty jumps on network power and the exchange rate for BTC, I think that even if the total number of Bitcoins generated falls (which is to be expected), the actual worth will be more than enough to compensate for the difficulty increase.

In context of 440k diff, whats the next step given the situation is not so "peachy": "total_payout": "0.34"
Note: i bought a share to ensure that i make my case as shareholder for the sake of it.
