BCCI has announced T-20 squad for 2 T-20 match series against Ireland (June, 26 and 28). They are rotating everyone. Pandya is new skipper for this short burst.

At the same time Indian test team is playing 4 day warm up match in England, we have 1 off test left in last Eng vs Ind. I guess Pant is moving to test team after South Africa series.

I really like that they are changing the captaincy of the Indian team. I believe Hardik Pandya is going to do well because he has proved himself in the IPL. I really don't think he will have any problem in the international arena as well.

But I am absolutely not sure about Bhubaneswar Kumar being the vice-captain, probably that is not that important. What is important is that Hardik Pandya is getting his shot now and I hope he will be able to deliver.

England is playing really well right now in the test arena and it will be really hard for India to beat them.
IMO there is no deep thought process in recent captaincy change because core Indian team already getting into test match mode and about to reach England. When your 1st, 2nd, 3rd captaincy candidates are playing all 3 formats then these sort of quick changes are natural, we have seen this in recent time, even Sikhar led the Indian team in the SL. These bilateral series are giving them option of testing their bench strength, changing captaincy is part of it and in doing so they are giving everyone fair chances to prove themselves and get some International experience.

So finally they decided to kick out Rishabh Pant from the team? He was given so many chances and failed to make use of them. Pant is rumored to be very close to Virat Kohli and that helped obviously. But time has come to give chances to some of the other players, and that is the reason Dinesh Karthik has been named as the wicket keeper for the Ireland series. There are two other keepers in the squad - Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, and therefore the competition is going to be very tough. And for DK, age is not on his side.
Pant will join test squad along with S. Iyer and there is a possibility of Pant playing in 4 days warm up match against county team.

^^ They had a very easy outing in last cycle, they played most of the (3) series at home in comparison to 2 away series, 1 against Australia in which Kiwis got whitewashed and 1 draw series against SL. Last series got cancelled due to covid and it helped them with the percentage wise, otherwise Australia was the next contender for the finals.

Right now New Zealand is really trying to concentrate on the shorter format of cricket because they have already won the world test cricket championship. With the cricket world cup coming up the only makes sense that they are concentrating on the shorter format and that is the only explanation there is I think.

Playing in away conditions has put a lot of pressure on them in my opinion and they are not being able to get used to the conditions. It has taken a big toll on their performance. They are playing really bad in test cricket right now. They are even losing the matches that they should easily be winning.
I don't think NZ or any SENA country (Even India) take this position regarding test cricket.

I don't believe in this notion that Kiwis are not familiar with English condition, they have more or less same condition back at home. It's just that Poms really playing well in this series, also injuries in NZ's camp is another factor.

I can't even imagine living with just 60GB per month anymore. My appetite for data consumption has increased by many folds, i checked my data log and on average i use almost 2.5 TB per month/16-20 days. I'm not shilling but you should try to get one, use yearly package for better price. I can vouch for excitel broadband personally.

Having said that i'll wait for more details to come out regarding IPL subscriptions on JIO/Voot etc before jumping in as i like to believe that they'll offer more exciting offer to new users.

LOL.. I hardly get 1-2 hours a day for watching TV. So 2GB per day works for me. It is actually 4 GB per day, as I have two 4G connections. So I get 2GB data from each of them per day (120 GB per month). My TV is medium-sized, so there is no point in watching UHD movies or sports shows. But I didn't knew that Jio Fiber was this cheap. I checked their website, and found that the cheapest plan is ₹399+GST (₹471 per month). That is less than the combined monthly recharge cost for my two 4G connections. Will seriously consider subscribing to Jio Fiber.
Haha 2.5 TB might sounds lot of data but once you get used to it then you won't even realise. I also share wifi with my Baba and Wife.

I have dedicated screen for cricket at my workstation. Mainly for Test cricket, all Indian fixture and The Ashes, even when i'm not watching, it always stays on only because of commentary.

He has been given a lot of chances already and didn't live up to expectations which is why Pant is definitely at fault here. India is desperately searching for the next MSD to help their team win international cups, but they still haven't found his perfect replacement yet.
I don't think if we ever going to find next Dhoni. Pant is riding his test performance run and now i starting to think that he's more destructive in Test cricket, which is weird because at start of his career he's used to be equally destructive in shorter format too.

Might be a better option, although i've no idea how efficient this JIO fiber is because i use excitel services and i'm kinda satisfied with the connectivity. I pay almost 5800 inr yearly for their fiber service (100 mbps) without any OTT benefits (not counting any other OTT platform, which i use in sidelines) they do have some plans with OTT services included in upgraded plans which i'm yet to check.

If you have senior citizen in your home then i guess you should stick with the local cable too, i also pay 350 inr/pm in Delhi without any benefits, only because my maa and sasu maa are not familiar with the tech stuff.

Paying less than ₹500 per month for the Jio Fiber is OK. But how are their services? Airtel is at least 2x more expensive and the justification that they usually give is that their services are of a much higher quality. BTW, I don't have a broadband connection as of now, as I use 4G instead for my needs. I used to pay ₹1,500 per month for Airtel broadband before Jio revolutionized the 4G market. Once 4G became available, I just cancelled my broadband connection, as it no longer made any sense. We can have 60GB per month high speed 4G data for just ₹250, while Airtel broadband was asking 6 times that amount. I see that they have reduced their pricing, but if I need to chose between Jio and Airtel, then I will be more inclined towards Jio.

I've checked voot's subscription and it's under 300 INR /Yearly, although their existing catalog virtually empty in comparison to Disney/Hotstar but 300rs is not much, if it stays the same. Also JIO owns the majority of shares so there is a possibility of free subscription or free to watch with JIO pack (I guess they already provide tons of free OTT subscriptions if you own JIO fiber connection), considering Mukesh Ambani already has countless services to sell.

Watching IPL coverage with SONY was amazing, their advertisement, Buildup and presentation was top notch. Although i believe OTT platforms (Digital) are going to dominate this space in next cycle.

Well.. perhaps I should cancel the Cable TV subscription then. If I need to spend around ₹5,000 per year for all these OTT platforms, then what is the point in paying almost the same amount for Cable TV as well? Already I cancelled one of the Cable TV subscriptions. Since I am residing in my hometown now (office is yet to open, and we are working from home), I cancelled the connection that I had in the city where I worked. And here at hometown, my Cable subscription is the most basic one. And I am not taking a new Cable TV connection even if I need to go back to work.

Excellent game of cricket, although it's flat wicket but you still need to be fearless to chase almost 300 runs in 70-ish overs.

I'm aware that this might be too early to say but it does look like Brendon Mccullum (along with Ben stokes) did managed to bring some sort of change in English cricket culture. This is the same outfit who used to think that drawing the match on the 5th day is their only option. So far I'm loving it!!

At this point, New Zealand is leading by 238 runs. Quite surprising that there are so many twists and turns in such a short time. I don't know for how long Matt Henry will be able to give company to Daryl Mitchell. But if they could get the lead to somewhere around 300, then the maximum chances will be there for a draw. The problem with England is that in pitches that doesn't provide much support for the bowlers, only James Anderson is capable of taking wickets. Look at the figures for bowlers such as Jack Leach. They look horrendous.

It is very difficult to say what the condition of the pitch is. The first two days we saw a complete batting friendly pitch. But on the third and fourth day we saw that the batsmen had a lot of trouble collecting runs. Looking forward to seeing how the pitch will behave on the fourth day.
238 is Good enough collection. If New Zealand are able to score 60-70 runs today, it will definitely be a good target. But it is very difficult for them to collect 70 runs now. There is no other experienced batsman at the crease except Mitchell.
Pitch has no demons and still terrific to bat on. Kiwis just didn't batted well for small period of time, 2 run out mixup and 1 injured player (Jamieson) made situation bit tough at some point.

NZ still managed to add valuable runs in the end. England followed short ball tactic which was useful today but at same time in last part of the inning they gave 30-ish extra run due to this.

England has 50-50 change in last inning despite 4 rpo, as pitch is good for batters and outfield is way too quick. Kiwis are 1 bowler short too (Jamieson).

For me, it is bad news all around. I have subscription for Disney+Hotstar, Sony LIV, Fancode and Amazon Prime Video. Now I need to spend even more money, since Reliance (Viacom 18) has won the digital rights for IPL. And on the TV part also, it is disappointing. Never liked the coverage in Star Sports. I would have preferred Ten Sports (Sony Ten). Watching cricket has become more expensive nowadays, but that is expected. When these companies sign multi-billion deals with the BCCI, they also expect to make profit out of it.

Bids finished
Package A (TV rights for Indian subcontinent) : Disney  NOTE (there is confusion among all sources) It's Disney or Sony.
Package B (Digital rights for Indian subcontinent) : Viacom 18
What? I'm confused. I though Disney won Package A while Sony won Package B. Many fans were already celebrating IPL's return to Sony TV. Have no idea where Viacom 18 squeezed into this tight race.

Anyway, I am proud of IPL because it literally surpassed the English freaking Premier League and is sitting below the NFL in terms of price per match. Amazing!
Bid is still going on so lots of speculation going on who got the rights, no one showing their cards as Package C is kinda related to Package B ( media rights)

But many source confirmed that Viacom 18 won the package B, bit of confusion on Package A tho. We'll get accurate picture by tomorrow evening after BCCI release.

-------------
Also time for IPL salary to increase by 2 folds, may be increase the budget minimum 200 cr INR/per franchise.

Sony -> Star India -> ? Some big players are bidding like crazy and I think a new player might win the rights this time around. Also, Ganguly actually mentioned that IPL is even more popular than EPL these days which isn't hard to believe.

It's not about cricket anymore, some might say it was never about cricket anyway, which i partially agree, thanks to Lalit modi. He was corrupt af but i've no hesitation to say that guy was visionary.
Agreed. Never did like Lalit Modi, but he definitely started something revolutionary whether anyone agrees or not. Wonder what he's upto these days.
Must be enjoying his life.

Now that ICC almost secured big amount of money. There focus should be on other areas too like.

- Improve at least 10-12 existing stadiums with the help of franchise and State board (they need spanking for politics),
- Improve spectators experience be taking care of basic facilities( Good Food, Shades, hygiene etc) for IPL and Tests facilities are okay but for internationals it's like a hell.

You know it's a flat deck when Ollie Pope scoring a daddy hundred.

Traditional wisdom says that this match should end up as draw but at the same time we have witnessed some unexpected 5th day result, similar to Eng vs Ind, it was also dead wicket but India managed to find reverse swing so i'm open for this scenario too, if by any chance it happens then this dull test could turn into fine thriller. I know hoping too much.

Bilateral cricket is about to fuck up in international cricket (rightly so, except test cricket), at least in the biggest market. According to some reliable journalists IPL media rights auction already crossed the base amount (it's only for A+B category) and it's kinda 2 days affair.
I read an article regarding this today, the battle between the richest people in the world for the IPL media rights to get the bragging rights and possible exposure for their media platforms, Mukesh Ambani and Jeff Bezos to battle for the bid and then there is Disney who is sending their top executives for the media rights and it is going to be a record breaking event as per experts in the article i read  Cheesy. Good time for the BCCI when there are battles for the media rights as they are the ultimate winners  Grin.
Yeah, apart from bragging rights /ego etc, now it came down  to owning prime time slots and ours drawing rooms.

Hmmm

Can someone enlighten me why Aaron Finch got the man of the series award? I mean it's okay as everyone in cricketing world suck up to Batriarchy, which is hard reality unfortunately but he scored 61 and 29 in 2 matches, David Warner scored more runs than him, marginally but still (unless they are looking at strike which i highly doubt). Award should have to gone to bowler, may be Hazelwood.

-----------------
Edit

Oh well i thought it was 2 match series (he scored 61+ 24 + 29) , facepalm. But still Warner scored more....

Stokes wins the toss and opt to bowl, for straight 127 overs and 5 sessions  Undecided

No test playing skipper want this scenario. It's very demoralizing situation to look at considering fielders are not helping the bowlers either and keep dropping sitters every where. Daryl Mitchell is reaping the rewards, ofc.

Since this is a batting friendly pitch, it is only normal that an experienced Test batsman from New Zealand would give such a performance. And they will probably declare the innings after collecting more than 550. The second day we will probably watch the New Zealand's batting, and the next two days will probably see England's batting. I think the probability of a match being drawn is 90%.
Could have been exactly opposite if Poms were batting first.

BTW, what happened to Matthew Potts? All of a sudden it looks as if he has run out of steam.
No assistance from the pitch and bowling sub 130kmph doesn't help either when ball isn't even reverse swinging.

On green seaming wicket medium pacer or even average seamer can terrorise the batters but on flat wickets they are dead weight. Potts is still new and very young so he'll learn the art of bowling on such pitches.

---------
Ha! 4 quick wickets.

And what should ICC do about it? Corner/Bully BCCI? I'm sure it won't go well.

ICC is never going to say anything that BCCI does not support because they know very well if BCCI does not stand with ICC, it will be a really bad time for the ICC. So I don't know if there is any way around it but currently, I don't have any solution to this problem.
Only possible solution for ICC would be to create alternate source of revenue and new market (first step should be start multi nation WC and discard existing formula), in a longer run they can't afford to depend on Indian market only. BCCI have ambition to expand IPL footprints in the future, we don't know how would it look like after 10 years as IPL is still new product but if somehow it clicks then Broadcaster/advertisers  are going to divert all money to IPL instead of ICC events, it's already started to happen.

$9- $10 billion was looking realistic target at one point but yesterday Amazon has pulled out so bidding war might not reach there (they did the same thingy in last auction too) but again it's hard to predict the outcome in these crazy bid war.

Indian as well as global corporates are awash with money, after the crazy bull run of 2021. What happened during the franchise auctions may happen this time as well. The major contenders as of now are Disney+Hotstar, Sony, Zee and Reliance. The competition is actually more fierce in the online streaming sector, when compared to cable TV. Apart from Disney+Hotstar, other platforms such as JioTV, SonyLIV and ZEE5 are looking to increase their market share. On the cable TV sector, Sony Sports, Sports 18 and Zee Sports are looking to break the monopoly of Star Sports.
For streaming Amazon was right candidate, unfortunately they are out. I really loved their cricket based streaming. In comparison Hotstar (buffering etc) provides horrendous user experience and it looks like they don't even care and just want to increase their subscription base with cheap fees. SonyLIV is also same.

Get ready for more shitty ads in all this drama. I hope that these companies also considering ad-free cricket (additional category of subscription) to their audience, they can even charge extra for that.
