Big thanks to Jtoomin for suggesting that I try the 1.5.10 firmware, I've been hashing for 12 hours now in -18 degree weather and the SP10 is running at a rock solid 1.4 thash, this is a slow corner May batch btw and it's never ran better. I'm cautiously optimistic that this will keep me hashing through the winter. Here's to hoping that SP20's hit the $400-$500 soon so I could justify buying a few to use up all my PSU's I have lying around from GPU and S1 mining days Post a picture. I'll do a screenshot when I get home of the hashing and ASIC stats. Even though it is -18 outside the intake temp is saying +7, does this firmware spoof the actual intake temp to keep things humming along?

Those Sp20's in an isolated room or away from family living? Just cause of the noise. They are not loud if you downclock. I would say medium vs loud. At 70 and 80 settings they are loud. My fan is set to 40 on the one I have. my sp20 uses only 730 watts and 1300gh this is about 0.56 watts they are also in the attached garage so sound isolates from my living area. I am trying to find the lowest settings I can do on this machine. Reminds me a lot of running GPU's back in the day. Underclock saved a ton of power and heat. I have an attached garage too, but I keep my car in it. Only a single car garage. Winter time is nice for running gear in there, but when it gets hot, the garage gets over 100 degrees so that's not even an option. I have C1's spread all over right now doing a pretty good job of keeping my heat off for now. Just issues with one. Add them up and my SP10, around 5.5TH/s. These things are pretty small even with a single attached garage you should have plenty of room to store some on a shelf. I had my garage up to 40 degrees this last summer. My garage is north facing so I would crack the door just a tiny bit for airflow, only popped 1 cap on a S1

I was specifically referring to barabara, who in the emails where i asked for a discount neglected to mention any sale and in fact advised me to buy asap... would it not THEN have been logical to mention there is a sale starting imminently...? OK, so will you (SPT) honor the 100USD discount seeing as my order is still 'pending & unfulfilled' $940.00 ? Yes, we will honor the $100. Please e-mail me at sales@spondoolies-tech.com. Barbara Barbara, I have a support ticket open with you. Why are you not replying to my emails, it has been 5 days now since your last and only reply advising me to try the SP20 firmware on my SP10? Barbara, still waiting for a reply for my support ticket. Can i please get some assistance, going on week 3 now?

Raskul, You make the SP20 look like a household designer item with that window setting and the flower (There can't be many miners sat next to a wedding pic either) If he did not have the picture there, the SP20 was probably out in the snow by now .. I'm speaking from personal experience, trust me practically the miner is on his "other" side Good luck with that setup other than taking pictures :p I moved my SP10 inside until support finally responds to my inquiries about low intake temps. I've got my fans set to 40 and it's still worse than nails on a chalkboard

Can you please let me know if there is a manual workaround I can apply to get my SP10 working under 0c? I'm down for almost 2 weeks now and hope there is a solution other than selling the gear.
Lurker here also from Canada thought I would chime in. You need to be a bit more reasonable with electronics outdoors methinks. Other than Panasonic Toughbooks operating at -18 outside, not much else. However I ran a 4 GPU mining rig outside last December in -25! most of the winter. But I gave it a chance. This outside on a patio exposed not even in a garage. I covered the rig with a large cardboard box and modified that (vents / fans) to give the rig a chance to warm up and operate. I would suggest you do or try the same; improve the miners immediate surrounds with such a carton or cardboard box, or even some a/c venting or tubing from the exhaust around to the intake to let it take in some warm air. A quick check of that miner's PSU operating temp. states -10 C upwards. That may be your issue. Try a shipping carton, cardboard box over the miner then monitor the running temps of that enclosure once up and running and modify that. -17 bare exposed electronics like even warming up your car sitting overnight in those types of temps will always be difficult regardless of software / firmware other updates. Good luck! It is a software issue in this case, most likely for self preservation as it turns off exactly when ambient intake hits 0. It is in a garage but it is not insulated. I like your suggestion of routing the exhaust to the intake, going to give this a try. I had my GPU rigs and S1's running in there last winter up to -30 no problems. Fired up one of them to test and they run rock solid i the cold, 2 bad about the energy consumption though.

Zvi, I am still having an issue with my SP10 running with intake temperatures at or below 0c. Technical support suggested that I update my firmware to 2.5.13, however it is unavailable in the web GUI. I found the following kb regarding the issue with low intake temps, http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/blogs/technical-blog/15824368-version-2-5-12That support article seems to indicate that it is for SP20. SP3X. Is it even possible to apply that firmware to an SP10? If not is there a manual workaround that can be done to get the unit hashing with lower than 0 degree intake? "Version 2.5.12 became the official, 2.5.6 removed and 2.5.13 is the latest experimental. 2.5.12 - different handling of BIST and Murata flow - improves stability. 2.5.13 - sets default (after factory reset) values to 1275/288 in SP3x/SP2x. Redirection bug fixed. Handling of ambient temperatures lower then 0c added." 2.Х.Х are for SP2x and SP3x. Update to latest version (I think it is 1.5. - you might need to update FW twice (till it says that you have the latest image). I am at 1.5.8, I just reapplied it to see and it didn't make any difference. Once the intake temp drops to 0 or lower it stops hashing. I'll get about 100 shares processed and then it stops mining. After several minutes the entire unit will reboot and go through the same sequence. Zvi, support is not responding to my email requests for 3 days now. Can you please let me know if there is a manual workaround I can apply to get my SP10 working under 0c? I'm down for almost 2 weeks now and hope there is a solution other than selling the gear.

Time to buy more hardware.... How are you sp30,1,20 buyers doing for ROI? meeting expectations? Machine performance? How is the cold weather performance? I know sp machines are loud so I would add to my shed farm (literally) ambient is -5 celcius right now and my ants are peforming better than ever in the cold +10% performance. Is anyone else getting similar results with Sp miners? Thanks for your comments, looking to expand and your input will be helpful I'm finally getting the expected 1.4 hash rate on my SP10 at -10 ambient fans 70%. Much better than the 1.2-1.3 I've had since purchasing it. was that after installing the update released by Zvi yesterday? Hell no, I'm not goint to be an early adopter and risk getting burned.

I finally saw some large photos of the SP20, looks pretty nice inside, clean and neat. Does that have just one fan? Is it very loud the other SP models? This unit seems to be made for the home, so my dad is asking me about if it is loud or not. Is it tolerable to be in the same room with it and have a phone conversation?
It's not a home mining machine despite its description. If you want to keep your Dad happy don't buy one.

Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: SP20 Fan Noise

Hello Everybody,
So I'm quite taken aback by the loud fan noise generated by the stock SP20 fans, was all along thinking it would be comparable in terms of noise to the S3 series.
Has anybody managed to replace their SP20 fan to something which solves the noise problem? Any known models/plugs/settings to take note of? I reallllllly need to get the fan issue solved if not the miner is just going to be switched off. Looks like I have to reassess my definition of "home mining".
Cheers
Really do we need a new thread for this? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg9469805;topicseen#msg9469805Its a 200+CFM 60+ db fan on a non-standard power connector. Good news is that the unit doesn't care if there is a fan plugged into the header. I've currently got two Coolermaster Jetflo 100CFM fans powered from the PSU, one replacing the internal fan and one on the outside pushing air in at the back. Not-so good news is thats not enough airflow to keep the unit performing at spec, sweet spot seems to be just under 1.4TH Temp Front / Back T,B 33 °C / 86,87 °C But its now normal miner sound levels Going to try a 150CFM fan, I guess you could solder the custom connector onto the fan wires if you wanted a stock look I would argue we do, the other thread is over 430 pages discussing a slew of issues. This thread is specific and when you come in here you should be able to figure out what the topic being discussed is quickly. Gives the issue more visibility imo. Maybe help someone from making a bad decision for "Home Mining".

I also have a SP31 that won't give more than 4.7Th/s. I am beginning to think this is the maximum, a far cry from the advertised 5.5Th/s. My unit is running @ 240v and close to 3Kw.
While it was advertised for 5.5Th/s I think you missed Guy's update: • The hash rate of the SP31 will be 4.9TH/s +- 5%. Power consumption will remain the same 3kW at the wall as in the previous SP30. That update means fuck all after the fact, Guy once again overstated and under delivered. Was it another slow corner batch this time? Such an arrogant bunch ...
