Smiley
45  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if I bought gox coins right now? There like $330 on: February 15, 2014, 04:40:28 PM
Depends on where your money is now. Don't transfer money into MtGox, but if you already have it there, it is probably a good idea to buy at least some BTC.
46  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lets pretend Gox gets fixed monday. Now what? on: February 15, 2014, 04:14:11 PM
Its simple.

1. price on gox will start going up as people will be scooping cheap coins with intention of dropping them on bitstamp.
2. bistamp will go down as people will preemptively sell in anticipation of gox coins coming
? ? ? ?
3. Price meets halfway around 400

The big question is where it will go afterwards. Wink
47  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox does business in Australia so they can be sued from here. on: February 15, 2014, 04:08:15 PM
Laziness.

Think about it, it explains the whole situation.
48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Lets pretend Gox gets fixed monday. Now what? on: February 15, 2014, 04:04:00 PM
then something new will happen to gox..... wash rinse repeat

Gox sure is keeping everyone on their toes.

Expect the Gox premium to make a comeback as soon as people realize that they are not getting their Fiat out of there.
49  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mtgox does business in Australia so they can be sued from here. on: February 15, 2014, 03:55:53 PM
Wouldn't it be ironic if they were so hesitant/slow to communicate because of legal issues?
50  Bitcoin / Press / 2014-02-15 MtGox: Maintenance Announcement Effecting Bitcoin transfers on: February 15, 2014, 12:35:58 PM

Quote
Dear Mt. Gox Customers,
In order to implement our solution to the “transaction malleability” issue being
faced by bitcoin exchanges and businesses, we are going to have a 6-hour
downtime on all bitcoin deposits and internal bitcoin transfers in addition to the
current pause on bitcoin withdrawals. Trading will otherwise still be open as
usual.

Maintenance Schedule (approximate):
6pm ~ 12am JST (February 15 th )
The above downtime period is approximate: it may be shortened or lengthened
as required. Once the implementation is complete customers will again be able
to deposit bitcoin, but we will be doing extensive testing before bitcoin
withdrawals are reactivated. We will publish an update on the situation on
Monday .

BlockChain.info have implemented changes to address the  malleability issue.
Our solution should work in the short term, while a longer-term solution is being
discussed with the Bitcoin Core Dev team and the Bitcoin Foundation. We are
also discussing this with other exchanges and businesses.
Thank you for your support during the maintenance, and we will update you on
the progress shortly.

Best regards,
MtGox Team

52  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Gox] If I'm able to access my coins, holy hell. on: February 14, 2014, 07:01:08 PM
Well, he kinda has a point.

If Mt.Gox is resuming BTC withdrawals, some people are bound to be very happy.

You all saw for what crazy prices people sold coins.
53  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wishlist Feature: Approve/Disapprove Incoming Transactions on: February 14, 2014, 03:59:44 PM
Just ignore them. As long as the client does not include them in a transaction, they don't do anything.

Like I wrote, an option to visually remove outputs below a certain threshold would take care of it. Until then, you just have to show some willpower. You can do it!
54  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dont fall for Marks strategy. Read b4 making any trade decision. on: February 14, 2014, 06:10:39 AM
what's the situation at btc-e?

Withdrawals work.
55  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wishlist Feature: Approve/Disapprove Incoming Transactions on: February 14, 2014, 06:07:59 AM
You are asking for the client to ignore small inputs. You specify a threshold and everything smaller will be ignored.

That is certainly a reasonable feature I could see being added.
56  Bitcoin / Press / 2014-02-14 BREAKING: Mark Karpeles posts to say MtGox is implementing a solution on: February 14, 2014, 05:46:47 AM
http://theblogchain.com/2014/02/14/breaking-mark-karpeles-posts-to-say-mtgox-is-implementing-a-solution/

Mark Karpeles just posted on GitHub at approximately midnight EST. Here’s the full quote:
Quote
Just to update this thread, it seems that this discussion is mostly stale now. We (at MtGox) will implement this new hash index in our transactions database and start working with it (we will announce a maintenance as we will have to stop bitcoin deposits too during the database schema update) and will start providing this new hash when customers are withdrawing bitcoins, litecoins, or any other coin based on Bitcoin we may support in the future.

We will also provide an API that will allow our customers to use this hash to retrieve the transaction hash as seen in the blockchain once the transaction is confirmed, and will hope others (blockchain.info?) will index this value one day.

We also invite other exchanges and businesses which may need to keep track of bitcoins they send to use this same method, since dealing with multiple variations of the same thing wouldn’t be very productive.

If nobody does it, we will also post some test vectors for regular (in=>out) transactions in the near future.

And here’s a link to the full thread on GitHub.

Or you could just try and buy in the RealBTC for Gox BTC thread.

Risky. You might end buying BTC from some account that gets suspended. BTC transactions from Gox to Gox are reversible. Smiley
59  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Taking Advantage of new Gox Discount on: February 13, 2014, 11:21:52 PM
Well i was always under the impression that you could wire *in* to Gox even from the USA

You just couldn't cash out to USD ...

False?

Well, yes, but how long does that take? The longer it takes, the more likely it is withdrawals will be restored and you no longer want your money in there.

The minute withdrawals are restored, the gap will be gone. The gap you see now is because of people thinking Bitcoin is doomed, or that it would be easier to get EUR/USD out of an insolvent Gox than BTC.

I was about to suggest Money Polo or OKPay, but it looks like they removed those options.

Anyone know anything about that?
