there is no free lunch. someone can legit put a bunch of BTC on a wallet, encrypt it with a ridiculous pwd and sell it. nobody will ever be able to crack it.

3  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Undervolt antminer s1 [1.19W/GH at the wall] on: September 15, 2014, 04:38:25 AM
just a quick note. 0.75v is not enough. Even 0.8v is not enough...

I find the minimum acceptable if you want low HWE% is 2.9kohm, but to be safe, a minimum of 3kohm is best...

how much are you paying for it? I have it in $25 increments (so could do $225). These were obtained in a legit way (southwest rapid rewards points promotion from chase).

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Millionaires on: May 29, 2014, 03:44:18 PM
Well, I was here early enough, but sold my coins for $2 after the crash from $30... So no millions for me sadly Cry

Good ol' days when you could mine dozens of coins per day, per videocard... lol!

I still remember the stories of people who mined thousands of coins with their CPU, just a few months earlier... really crazy how this whole thing exploded in just a few years...

I also missed the 2008 stock market crash buying opportunity... Our brains are wired to respond to these in a bad way, but hopefully now I learned my lesson and will sit tight next time...   Tongue

antec one hundred is cheap and has 8 slots...but you certainly want to have no side panel and a fan blowing cool air there...
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Mine for something meaningful? on: May 19, 2011, 11:55:26 PM
Hi All,

I'm wondering, right most of the bitcoin processing power is used to resolve blocks, which are not used for anything except as "proof of work"?

What if instead bitcoin was implemented to do something useful, like help folding@home? Wouldn't that be better? Please vote!
16  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Building first time under $1000 rig on: May 17, 2011, 11:53:00 PM
Well, simply put, I want to get the best possible build for under $1000.
I'm really confused right now because everything in the 5000's series is sold out. I don't know what the recommended GPUs are anymore.
I really liked this build but 5850's are sold out:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=17337046

In short, can anyone recommend the best sub-$1000 build? Or, at least point me into the right direction by telling me which GPUs are the best to get currently.
Or, to link me to a place where I can still purchase 5850s and telling me if the build above is good.

BIG thanks in advance!!! Smiley

I don't think you can fit 4 x 5850 in that case, it has only 7 expansion slots!

18  Bitcoin / Mining / Weird Ubuntu Issue - Gpu at 50%? on: May 13, 2011, 03:24:21 PM
Hi All,

I tried yesterday to setup a mining rig with 2 x 5850, using ubuntu 11.04, got this weird issue. when I use only 1 gpu, I get 100% utilization, but when I try to use 2, each only runs at 50%. crossfire is disabled and I'm using phoenix:

aticonfig --odgc --adapter=all
