6  Economy / Service Announcements / Gatecoin to Launch Gatecoin Coin DAO on: April 01, 2016, 07:29:53 AM
After months of dispute between bitcoin's core developers and Chinese miners we eventually arrived at a consensus, the Gatecoin Coin.

We are going to launch the Gatecoin Coin DAO crowd sale tonight at 11pm HKT with a target of USD 15 million. The Gatecoin Coin will be 100% pre-mined with the following split: 10% for investors, 1% for developers and 89% for the CEO. It will use a proof of stake (of course!).

Following the crowd sale, Gatecoin will be run by the DAO, therefore the current IT team will be replaced by AlphaGo, customer & public relations will be handled by Microsoft's Tay AI chatbot and our CEO, Aurelien Menant will step down and hand over responsibility to a Rasberry Pi.

We disclosed this ground-breaking news to industry insiders who reacted quickly, and here's what happened:

BitReserve/UpHold re-brands itself again to GatecoinCoinReserve BitMex to list 1,000,000x leveraged futures contract GTC12m

Blythe Masters tweeted "Forget about the blockchain, it's all about Gatecoin Coin. #GTC"

Warren Buffet also tweeted "Sounds good!"

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Gatecoin, Exchange where 25% of Ether is traded, DOWN - LOL on: March 17, 2016, 03:16:15 AM
Yes we apologise for this disruption. CloudFlare experienced a massive bug and it has taken them several hours to respond. With the time difference between Hong Kong and their team in the USA it has exacerbated the issue. We are currently working hard to resolve this issue as soon as possible. You can use https://mirror.gatecoin.com/ that is UP now while we resume the service on gatecoin.com.

9  Economy / Service Announcements / Gatecoin Updates Fee Schedule with Lower Maker-Taker Pricing on: March 09, 2016, 04:04:13 AM
Gatecoin Updates Fee Schedule with Lower Maker-Taker Pricing

Good news, everyone!

We've decided to simplify our fee schedule. Starting today Wednesday 9th March, we'll be setting maker-taker pricing.

As a result, trading fees may be as low as 0.02%. Check out the new breakdown here: gatecoin<dot>com/feeschedule

Please note that these new fees will be incurred AFTER your first trade, which will reflect the former fee structure.

-- FAQ --

What is a taker?

A "taker" is a trader who takes liquidity out of the market. The "taker" picks orders from the order book. The taker fee applies when you remove liquidity from the book by placing a market or limit order that executes immediately against a limit order already on the book. As a result, a taker has his orders executed instantly: they do not remain in the order book.

What is a maker?

A “maker” is a trader providing liquidity to the market. The "maker" posts orders to the order book. The maker fee applies when you add liquidity to the order book by placing a limit buy below market price or a limit sell above market price.

Why would the maker fee be lower than the taker fee?

The maker fee on Gatecoin is lower than the taker fee to incentivize traders to provide more liquidity to the exchange/order books.

When will the new fee schedule be active?

The new fee schedule will be active starting Wednesday, 9th March at 11:00am GMT+8.

10  Economy / Exchanges / Re: https://gatecoin.com new exchange on: March 07, 2016, 09:21:01 AM
We pooled the REPs of some of our customers who had bought important amount of REPs during the Augur crowdsale, as it is mentioned here https://gatecoin.com/blog/2015/10/gatecoin-launches-rep-trading/

Hope this helps!

11  Economy / Exchanges / Re: https://gatecoin.com new exchange on: March 04, 2016, 09:30:32 AM
gatecoin.com has been officially released in January last year. Our team is international, as you can see there https://gatecoin.com/team.

Regarding REP, you can only buy/sell REP on gatecoin, and we will allow REP transfers as soon as Augur is released. The beta version is about to be available, so the final version should be released in the coming months.

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do with 1,5 BTC? on: January 12, 2016, 08:11:44 AM
doing transaction in exchange and trade will make you have more than 1.5 BTC  Wink

How?

Sell the 1.5 BTC when the price is high enough. For example: say you sell it at an exchange like Gatecoin.com for $500, which means you have $750 in cash. Then buy bitcoins when the price drops down to $400, which means you have 1.875 BTC.
The second time around, you will sell 1.875 for $500 again. This time, you will get $ $937.50 in cash. Then buy more when the price is back down to $400, which will get you 2.34 BTC.
Repeat this process! Smiley

Or sometimes you may notice that the price for Bitcoin for sale in an exchange is more expensive in USD than in EUR. You can make quick and easy money by buying the bitcoins in EUR and selling the bitcoins into USD.

Whatever you do, make sure you are dealing with a legitimate exchange by doing your research. Exchanges that are not transparent to their customers is a big red flag.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stanford U offers Bitcoin app building course: I think it should be on Coursera on: January 12, 2016, 07:50:33 AM
Do you have to pay for the course?

If so then that would be why they are only offering it at that location.

Yes, you do have to pay tuition. But many other prestigious universities have hosted online classes for a fee on sites like Coursera as well. The advantage is that they can accept as many students as they'd like because finding actual space will not be an issue as all the lectures will be in a recorded video format or Live stream.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What do the banks want out of the Bitcoin blockchain? on: January 08, 2016, 09:33:00 AM
Excerpt:
Globally, there seems to be a shift in hype from Bitcoin to blockchain. In July 2015, Coindesk reported that the Monetary Authority of Singapore funded a blockchain-based record-keeping system as part of a five-year $225 million investment plan aimed at financial technology. Then, in September of this year, nine major financial companies banded together to form R3, a blockchain technology research company. R3 has quickly grown to a consortium of 30 of the world's biggest banks that include Barclays, BBVA, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Bank of America, HSBC, Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, and Wells Fargo among several others.

Although you cannot make a blockchain without a digital currency, you will be hard-pressed to find the term "Bitcoin" used anywhere at events like these. Perhaps the big banks and some Bitcoin startups can see that Bitcoin is the future but they don't want the negative stigma currently associated with Bitcoin in the public's eye. Jonathan Chester, CEO of Bitwage, wrote in a recent Forbes op-ed piece: "Halfway through the first day of the conference I started to use the word blockchain instead of Bitcoin. Instead of recoiling, prospects stayed to listen to us, eventually learning that the blockchain concept is the foundation of every cryptocurrency, and leaving us their business cards. When Bitcoin did come up, we had already developed some rapport and a lot of positive ideas had been conveyed, so it wasn't an immediate conversation killer."

So what do Banks really want out of this?

18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Stanford U offers Bitcoin app building course: I think it should be on Coursera on: January 08, 2016, 09:04:44 AM
Except from CCN.LA: Stanford University is offering a lab course on building bitcoin-enabled applications. The course is scheduled to run from Jan. 4 to March 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays in building 420-041 at the Stanford campus.

Why keep the class only on college grounds??? It's the year 2016 for crying out loud!

I think there's a lot of brilliant programmers beyond the college campus... If Stanford really wants to get the brightest minds engaged in this project to make real progress, they should offer this course online on something like Coursera with a Freemium offering. That way, they'll get more exposure for their school and help educate more people about Bitcoin.

What do you think?
19  Economy / Speculation / The current bitcoin price increase won't be a pump and dump. Do you agree? on: January 08, 2016, 03:56:59 AM
Do you agree with Martin Tillier from Nasdaq, who wrote:

"This is an appreciation in bitcoin that is perfectly logical and is based on fundamental factors. That makes it far more likely that it will proceed in an orderly fashion and extremely unlikely that it will be followed by a sudden collapse."

20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Marc Faber on Bloomberg mentions bitcoin as the only asset that did well in 2015 on: January 07, 2016, 02:58:58 AM
Marc Faber, investor and author of the "Gloom, Boom & Doom Report," talks with Bloomberg about China and how he thinks the US Federal Reserve has launched a U.S. recessions.

He also said, "I have to point out that in 2015, with the exception of people that held bitcoins, the performance of all asset classes have been poor... I think the Fed has created an environment by inflating asset prices where future returns on assets whether it is arts, bonds, stock, or real estate will be poor."

Bitcoin is mentioned at the 43 second mark.
