4  Economy / Speculation / Re: The boat is long gone on: October 23, 2013, 04:12:22 PM
I stopped reading the drivle a little while back... but his question about an investment that made so much? Simple answer..
Any government currency in existence :p
Comes from 0, gets printed to whatever insane rate of inflation they want.
Bitcoins are unprecedented, but exponential (and even greater) rates of deflation have and can exist. Anyone betting against the USD for instance in the past 20 years would have gotten something similar if they were smart Tongue

or "Oh man, when it was 200$... I wish I had gotten out then."
It all depends on what the future holds. For now I'll keep trickling them out and trickling them in, but mostly holding.
6  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is now the time to buy? on: October 23, 2013, 02:46:58 PM
oh man, nostalgia...
7$... i wish it was still that cheap Tongue
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your biggest bitcoin regrets? on: October 19, 2013, 08:37:30 PM
holding on to 20 bitcoins when it spiked to 28$.... shortly before spiking to 260$ Tongue
And then not selling all at 250-260 XD

Of course, selling was still smart, I had no idea it would go that high, and I made 280% profit (purchased those 20 bitcoins at around 10$) but who knew it could have been so much?

I've been using mullvad.net for over a year now with no problems :3

You forgot inbreeding for generations.

By the way, my entire extended family, including parents, are from the Sherman–Denison and Eastland-Cisco area (yes, that’s in Tex-ass).

Well, that explains it.

Don't judge an entire state based on your family. Not all Texas have inbred for generations. In fact, I'd wager most have not.
You would be hard pressed to find a state that doesn't have the hick town or inbred trailer park. :\
10  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's largest crash in history: Tale of the tape & why a recovery is likely on: April 19, 2013, 06:22:00 AM
I dunno I have perfect ability to visualize large numbers... via grouping.
I can think of 5 soldiers standing abreast, then I can think of 5 rows of soldiers. Then I can abstract them to a group of 25 and think of those in groups 10 by 10... and so on..

Now I may not be able to reasonably visualize 10,000 indistinct objects at the same time... but that is more of a limitation with focus than mental capacity. Because each indistinct object takes a moment to visualize, 5 objects, thats easy, you can see all 5 together as a group, or you can see each one individually.. or maybe pan across them, stopping briefly on one, then the next and the next... So what do you do when you have a stupidly high number of objects? by the time you get to 100 you've probably forgotten what you were doing. Tongue

though for my point here.. Log scale is reasonable and useful as any.
11  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: [POLL] Should Butterfly Labs (BFL) get a Scammer tag? on: April 19, 2013, 06:14:23 AM
Def the scammer tag.
Room mate purchased a jalapeno to hook up to a solar panel setup. But with new power requirements it likely won't work with the solar panel. They have been making promises over and over... they keep advertising as if the product is actually for sale... that is just bait and switch.

Even if they ship the product, at last, they should have a scammer tag in my opinion. You scam some one, you are a scammer, even if you come clean.

Hate a group, hate a person, but don't hate people because of the group.
Thats my motto.
13  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin's largest crash in history: Tale of the tape & why a recovery is likely on: April 19, 2013, 05:20:25 AM
Rubbish, if there was confidence in the price then the downed exchange wouldn't have had an effect.
That isn't entirely true.
The crash happened because it is quick to transfer bitcoin, but slow to transfer fiat currencies.

You can assume 2-4 days to get money in to an exchange, rarely would it ever take less.
And so mtgox goes down, people move to other exchanges to sell and buy. The people trying to sell get in first, and eat up the lions share of fiat very quickly. This of course pushes the price down. Much of the drive to drop is by people who just need to move bitcoins out, not really as interested in the price and their main exchange being down. Such as a business who is recieving bitcoins and exchanges them for USD as soon as possible to lock in the current price they are selling at. (and with the price dropping rapidly... the faster you sell it, the more secure that price is)

Then as we saw, a few days after the crash, fiat began to pump back in to the system and the crash stabilized.

Lesson Learned? Keep currency on multiple exchanges. Don't put all your damned eggs in one basket.
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: The REAL suckers detection poll on: April 12, 2013, 04:49:27 PM
i should say... From fall 2012 I had only maybe 1000$ USD worth of bitcoins... and very little fiat...
Today I have a few thousand USD worth of bitcoins, and I also lent 3,000$ USD to a room mate, purchased a 225$ monitor, 180$ shoes, and am sitting on a few thousand USD Tongue
Though I didn't sell or buy at the peaks or dips... I did well.
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why are people complaining about manipulation? on: April 12, 2013, 05:27:49 AM
Good call Superdork.
number 2 is exactly how I saw it.
I had bids all the way down to 40$ or so, woke up this morning and saw EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM fulfilled..
I was estatic... saw that the price had gotten down to around 25$ on virwox.. and was sad I hadn't put up any bids lower.. Tongue But seriously this is a fucking sale!
Even if it drops to < 10$ for a few months i'll be happy. I have more bitcoins than I did last month, I have more USD than I did last month.
16  Economy / Speculation / Re: The REAL suckers detection poll on: April 12, 2013, 05:22:12 AM
I have more bitcoins than I did last week.
I have more USD than I did last month.
Win Win.
17  Economy / Speculation / Re: Steps required to use other exchanges. See inside. on: April 12, 2013, 05:19:26 AM
My market of choice is virwox...
Though I get paid in Secondlife linden for commission work... so I never actually put USD in to virwox.
18  Economy / Speculation / Re: MtGox is the Flagship on: April 12, 2013, 05:17:37 AM
Mtgox is the plow on the front of the train.
Takes a beating pushing snow out of the way... and cows... How well it works affects how fast the train goes... But the train is far bigger than the plow.
19  Economy / Speculation / Re: How can you be optimistic short term at this point? on: April 12, 2013, 04:50:41 AM
like 2011... like 2013... :p
I purchased a handful of bitcoins at 25-40$ on virwox... then sold again at 97... then purchased more around 60... and... hey its an exchange!
20  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Price when the dust settles... on: April 11, 2013, 11:09:32 PM
my suspicion, lots of people are moving to other exchanges right now... first they moved their bitcoins and crashed the smaller markets... and soon their fiat will get in there.
Plus mtgox will return and the market will have another period of volatility as it finds its equilibrium amongst the rest of the markets.

It may take a week... or maybe even until the end of the month, but the price is going to hit 100-200+ again.
