1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number 9! Ninth altcoin thread. Back to the moon Baby! on: June 17, 2019, 11:18:13 PM
Summer time is upon us here in the PNW. So far only like 2 days of 90f temperature for this month. Still kinda cool at night but its been non stop sunny these past 2 weeks. So far the mild temperatures is letting me run my little farm inside my tent but those days are numbered. The resurgence of crypto has been great. We have recovered past the 2018 bottom point. The price going up has made it more difficult for me to stop mining. I'm actually hoping prices don't go up too fast and stabilize for a longer duration but I will be happy either way. I think crypto is here to stay and feeling high about it.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 17, 2019, 10:53:00 PM
Well I'm still high on Monero. Been liking what I've seen from their development side. Fork went great and cryptonightR has been good so far. Might stop mining soon since its summer but so far, I'm still managing to make a small profit. The price going up is kinda incentivizing me to keep mining for longer which I might just do. I have a tent set up that works well for what I have. I'm kinda excited about the switch to randomX, so I been browsing around ebay for server cpus. Might just go with new amd cpus but need to sell my video cards first for that. I also in the believe that the coin will keep going up by the end of the year. If not then it will eventually. This coin in my eyes is the best of all the privacy coins and has an opportunity to play an important role in this world that is ever increasingly taking our privacy away. It needs to position itself to seize the opportunity when it comes.

3  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining: Adding Solar Home Now, as "Mining Hedge" for future 2020 miners? on: June 17, 2019, 10:29:12 PM
So much money and effort for that amount of mining. I was looking into solar/wind energy solutions for mining as well but that much effort to just run a single asic miner seems like a humongous undertaking. Would you be better off running as many miners as you could during daylight hours then shutting down for the night? A bit more of a hassle but you can try to max out everything you get from the sun.

I really do want to make more of an effort in investing into renewables. Not only should we be moving away from fossil fuels, but the energy companies have been nickel and diming us way too much.
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Mem Tweak - Read/modify mem timings on the fly - [Vega Friendly] [Win/Linux] on: April 21, 2019, 08:00:54 PM
Hah, it works. Thanks for the tips for getting it to start properly.

Started with todxx's timings and yup, went from ~19.5 to 21.3+. Nice. I'll take that. Let's leave it for a while and see if it can sustain the timings in the long run.

I had the same problem getting it to start. How did you get it to work? I tried running under admin, still not working.
Go to the properties of the exe file and set it to start as admin (iirc). Then make a bat file with your parameters.

It might still only flash on your screen when you run it, but the timings are actually applied.

Got it. Thanks! The screen flashes in an instant. Any ideas how to get a readout from --current?

all you have to do is open cmd as admin and navigate to the folder where your memtweak is located

that would be:

cd path to folder

once you got into the folder, you just type in WinAMDTweak.exe --current

Not sure why my pause .bat files did not work, but just tried doing this and im able to use WinAMDTweak and change the setting from there. Now i can get to work on this.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TeamRedMiner 0.4.4 - Cryptonight Thread - High hashrate, Low Power on: April 21, 2019, 06:14:58 PM
Alright been trying the latest 0.4.4 trm and getting mixed results. On the one system I have with the 3 vega 56, only one of the video cards is at 2130, but the other two cards are hashing at their normal rate. The thing is when i run the AMDmemtweak, it tells me it changed the settings for all 3 cards. I even went back and added a --i 0,1,2 and that again it tells me i updated all of them but when i run the miner only 1 gpu is running at the increased rate.

I'm also having issues with running the memtweak on my other miners, they are all having pathing issues, even though i know i'm typing everything correct. All the settings are the same with the one pc that i have amdtweak working. So im not sure whats going on there.

But i do have reports for the 1 gpu that is mining with the memtweaks, it has been hashing for two days now at a sustained 2130 rate and with a pool side hashrate of around 2030. I havent been able to do much yet but will get power readings later. I can say that the temperature of that one card is sitting at 66c while my other 2 cards are at 51c, which does suggest a higher power draw.

Super quick update #1

I was finally able to run the program by going to cmd as an admin and typing in cd c:\<path to folder> hitting enter, then finally typing WinAMDTweak.exe and going from there.

So far I was able to apply the memory setting to two of my other x3 vega 56 rigs. These have different firmware on them. One has the 18.0.5 and the other the 18.0.6. So far they been stable but the hashrate increase in CNr has been much less than it was on my other computer. I'm thinking the drivers maybe? Hitting around 2k on all 3 vegas with the AMD 18.0.5 drivers, and between 1910-1990 on the one with the 18.0.6 drivers. Thats still a bit higher than their original setting but not by much.

miner settings and amdmemorytweak settings are the same with all cards.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Mem Tweak - Read/modify mem timings on the fly - [Vega Friendly] [Win/Linux] on: April 19, 2019, 10:25:58 AM
But i have a general question for trying to run the program, whenever i try to start, i just get a quick pop up window and then it exits out. I tried already setting it to windows 7 compatibility mode and still get nothing. Can anyone help me get this thing going? My pc is windows 10 and using the latest firmware for amd gpu.

put this in a .bat file:

Quote
c:\<FULL PATH TO THE TOOL>\WinAMDTweak.exe --current
pause

and run it as admin

That helped. I was able to run this

WinAMDTweak.exe --rcdrd 19 --rcdwr 4 --rc 35 --rp 14 --rrds 4 --rrdl 5 --rfc 148 --REF 15600

and it said all gpus were updated. So i run TRM 0.4.4 and got an increase to 2110 for CNr! But only on one card. My other 2 cards get between 1880-1910 which was around where it was. I must be missing something here. Running on the TRM 0.4.4, 3x Vega 56 Hynix, 19.4 drivers.

For TRM settings, i just had to change it to cn_config 14+14 since it would fail and give me error 42 on gpu 1 if i had 15*15 or any of the older values.

Also having trouble with running the program on my other systems. I can get a command window but it just tells me that it can't find the file. But the pathing is good, same as it was on the other one that's working

c:\<FULL PATH TO THE TOOL>\WinAMDTweak.exe --current
pause

I'm not sure whats going on there now. All files where downloaded to a folder, path looks good, and im running as admin.

For now it feels like i can get all these running CNr at 2100 so i just gotta mess with it more. Later after i sleep.

Hi!

For everyone testing modded mem timings for CN using TeamRedMiner:

TRM v0.4.4 is released on GitHub (https://github.com/todxx/teamredminer/releases).

The release contains a new *-mode specifically targeted towards Vega GPUs with modded mem timings and running normal CN variants (not Turtle). It’s the new default mode for Vegas.

The release also contains a new tuning guide with recipes for Vegas. Using it we can produce seriously sexy hashrates on all Vegas without increasing core clock above 1407 MHz (CN/r: 2440 h/s V64, 2250 h/s V56@64, 2130 h/s 56 Hynix).

The release will be in alpha state for a few hours before we post in our Bitcointalk topic, if anyone has the chance to take it for a spin, please do so and let us know your CN/r results.

Cheers, K

Glad to see TRM support on this!

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TeamRedMiner 0.4.3 - Cryptonight Thread - High hashrate, Low Power on: March 28, 2019, 02:13:50 AM
Been running the miner fine since the fork but the rejected rate seems a bit high for some reason all across the board. Even with the newer updates i'm still looking at 2% rejected rate.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TeamRedMiner 0.4.0 - CN v8/R - Vega 64 2200+h/s Rx470 1025+h/s Low Power on: March 11, 2019, 01:45:16 AM
i have vega *9 , but --list_devices  can't find.

Unexpected, what’s the OS and driver? Other miners working on?

win10 ver.1607
drive:18.6.1
swap space: 128GB

teamredminer-v0.3.8       v8                       OK
gminer 1.32                    equihash150_5     OK

add  --platform=1 or 0 ,both are not normal.
only message "Team Red Miner veersion 0.4.0"

Team Red Miner 0.4.0 mineing, also show "Team Red Miner veersion 0.4.0".
But the temperature of the graphics card will rise

I’m guessing it’s the old win 10 version not liking a terminal command we run to enable colors. Will check later tonight.

I'm running the exact same version of windows and everything is working fine. Might be worth try this update, second one from the top.

I don't know why but it help me run this miner on 1607.

Just an update.

Downloaded the latest version last night and mined lyra2rev3 last night and did notice a slight increase in hashing performance.

Switched over to CN R just recently and got everything running within 10-15 minutes no problems. I did not measure voltage or anything but settings have been left mostly the same as with CN v8. Im on Windows 10 1607 with the network update. I think most of the drivers are the 19.x.x but might have a few on 18.x.x. Performance seems to be on par with what it was before and now just testing for stability and longevity.

Overall this is probably the smoothest fork update for my little farm! Im liking the addition of color, so much easier to read things lol.

Another quick update, I just measured power from the wall on one of my 3x vega 56 rigs and im reading slightly under 600w total system power. So Almost bout the same as CN v8 maybe even a bit less. This system is using wattman for my settings. Other systems have a soft power table mod and using overdriveNT. Looking very stable but unfortunately difficulty is still mighty high.

12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Radeon VII or RTX2080 on: February 10, 2019, 08:01:28 PM
There's not that much mining info on the radeon 7 yet. So far we know for sure that these cards beast it on eth. The performance cnv8 seems disappointing but that could be attributed to the bad drivers. I'd just wait till more information comes out. And it's not like you can buy one now anyways, these things are sold out. I don't think we can make a good comparison until we have more testing.

If you more of a gamer that just mines on the side, they seem to be about even. Yeah the nvidia card has more features like ray tracing but not many games utilize the tech yet. We know the mining performance of the rtx card is good all around for multiple algos. So with all that said, I think the rtx card would be better suited for you.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Who ordered the AMD Radeon VII? Lets make a list of Miners / Hashrates / Coins on: February 07, 2019, 06:38:07 PM
oh man these seem very under supplied. i was not able to get my hands on one of these so will wait like everyone else to see mining results. gaming wise they seem to be on par with rtx 2080 which is nice. mining wise they are looking quite promising. 90 mh for eth is strong.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: February 04, 2019, 07:21:11 AM
I am not too technical on the details but what is the deal exactly with ProgPOW? It seems that it will level the field with ASICs and GPUs however the brand of GPU seems to play a factor.

It seems that Nvidia performs much better than AMD, and is the reason for this that Nvidia generally costs more and since it costs more they want to make it more fair in that regards.

For example, say you can buy 2 AMDs for the price of 1 Nvidia. The 1 Nvidia will perform at the exact same speed as the 2 AMDs combined. Is this the point they are going for or is it just the way that the current miners are optimized?

No, mining currently has no effect on video card prices. That was like 6-18 months ago. Their prices today has more to do with gaming. With that said Nvidia cards do beat out AMD when it comes to algorithms like progpow and mimblewimble. I think the only algorithms where AMD flat out beats NVIDIA are all the cryptonight variants.

Anyways its very cheap now if you want to get into mining, but of course, thats because there's no money to be made. The used market is flooded with people selling their mining equipment. And if you buy new you could probably get some good deals.

With that said, spend at your own risk. Crypto doesn't look like it will be going up anytime soon. I'm still here since mining heats up the house pretty nicely during the winter. But once it hits April or May I will have to downsize the farm quite a bit.

That's what i was thinking too but never have messed much with it.
Ok so on GPU P0-P7 and Memory P0-P3 i have them all set to 900mv. Which value would be the core?

I'd start bumping it +5mV at the time, and only for the problematic GPUs. Are you using OverdriveNTool? If so, it's good to run the miner with --bus_reorder so you get a GPU order that matches the PCIe bus id order, which is what ONT is using iirc.

You can also run the miner with --debug and you'll see the current values for clocks and voltages read from ADL. This would be to verify that you have increased the voltage for the correct GPU. Note: I assumed you're running on Windows here, but I believe it would work under linux as well, although you'd have to use other tools to set clocks/voltages of course.

That seemed to do the trick! everything is now running perfectly! Saw another guy get around close to what i got on hash rate so i think i'm good.

Trying out the latest version and the duplicate error have disappeared for me and rejected rate down to almost 0%. Very nice! Hash rate seems to gone up a bit for most my cards.

The only thing i'm trying to fix is that on two of my miners, i have one dead gpu. Not sure if that means i have to mess around with my overclock settings. They all start off ok but anywhere between 1-10 minutes a card just dies and i don't know why.

And I agree with the sentiment that adding some other algorithms like mimble wimble would be pretty nice. The options for amd for new algorithms is sadly lacking.

I have dedicated a mining rig to mine vtc. So far my hash rate is about 82 mh/s per vega 56 using cnv8 settings for a total of about 250 mh/s for the rig, measuring 700 watts at the wall. This is my first time mining this algorithm so i am not sure if that good but that is around 130 watts more than what i get mining monero. I'm on the 0.3.9 version and easy mine pool.

So far in my hour of mining i have a 2% rejected shares. The error i keep seeing most is the duplicate share error22. I would like to get that to as close to 0% as possible.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: February 02, 2019, 08:38:28 AM
Hey how profitable is GRIN atm? for example 1 vega 56 before electric?

They are barely profitable before electricity. Had one of my rigs with 3 vegas mining for a few days but they had a lousy hash rate in comparison to the nvidia cards. My 3 vegas did around 9 gps total consuming around 530 at the wall. Not sure if they will get improved upon later on with better mining programs, or if amd cards just suck at that algorithm.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Cast XMR] high speed XMR/CryptoNight miner for RX Vega GPUs (2 KHash/s) on: February 02, 2019, 08:29:11 AM
I have updated to the latest version of cast. My CNV8 hash rates continue to be around 1700 hs for a vega 56. Not sure why its low with me on here but it doesn't matter much anymore since the difficulty for monero just shot up so much this past 2 weeks i stopped mining it. But whattomine is saying that masari is the most profitable coin to mine with my vegas and that's what i will have them pointed at. So far im averaging around 3100 hs per card using the same settings on the cards that i use for monero. System total for 3 vegas is around 9200-9300 hs at 600 watts at the wall. At that rate im making a small profit with my farm.
