21  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Worth it to upgrade to 220V AC service? on: January 26, 2018, 02:30:36 AM
When I opened up my HP PDU I saw a 50A breaker for main rocker switch and 4 x 15A for each switched plug on the PDU.
Why is PDU rated for 30A? It seems like a 50A breaker inside PDU would not protect a 10 gauge wire with 30A breaker at the panel?
What am I missing?

My PDU is this one but I assume all 30A PDU have 50A breaker inside or am I wrong?

can you help me with your A3 Archive? I have 2 dis-functioning hashboards

What are the instructions for creating an archive?
I could do it if I had instructions.

Which block explorer are you using? I can't get Sia block explorer to work.

Working for me now. It had an error earlier.

Overall I'm impressed with siamining site considering all the new traffic they are getting.
Just the deposits to exchanges are slow but that is probably exchanges fault.

How long does it take to credit to your wallet? I noticed that Bittrex hasn't updated their block in over an hour and a half for Sia

Using other exchanges...
For Poloniex still waiting on deposit for 4 hours. Nothing even pending even after confirmed on network.
For HitBTC I see deposit pending about 1 hour after siamining site sent. Still waiting for deposit to complete.

I just received my A3 today, ...

To everyone who received in US, did you have to pay customs? If so, how much?

Thanks.
I usually pay UPS around $52.00 per unit. Driver collects and does NOT take CC's. You need a check. Talk about the "dark ages".

Thanks. Just got the ICOD now. $72.75

yeah, I'm UPS and haven't seen a single person get their package from UPS let alone get it marked as shipped.

UPS has mine in system, arrives 1/24.
And marked shipped on site.

So.. any updates on today's Miami demos?

Crickets chirping.
Wind howling through empty corridors.
The dragon sleeps.
Creepy.

Thank you.

Greetings Sir! Welcome to BitCoin Talk.

Might I enquire as to your name and position at Halong?

A formal introduction is in order.

Where is Scott? I was so looking forward to his quick return to these forums.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain just announced the AntMiner A3 - 815GH/s Siacoin miner - Blake(2b) on: January 19, 2018, 10:39:24 PM
Can someone tell me if we can run these in a aprtment in the US? I believe we have 125 V 15 A breakers. But the APW++ PSU on bitmain site says that 110 V will only provide 1200 W ourput. Are we SOL? Will the bathroom or kitchen special outlets do any help?

You'll be able to power a single A3 on one of those circuits, but I wouldn't use a single APW3++. I'd go for the EVGA SuperNova 1600 G2 instead. We have a ton of customers who attempted to run the S9 with an APW3++ over 120v circuits and would often experience hashing boards that would just disappear until the next reboot. Moving to 220v circuits almost always fixes the issue permanently. The point is that the APW3++ will still attempt to output the full amount needed by the miner, but the power will likely be less consistent and you'll also be increasing your fire hazard risk. If you insist on using the APW3++, then get 2 of them and run some hashing boards on one and the rest on the other.

Thank you for the quick response. I ordered the APW3++ already along with the A3 Sad. I am also looking to use a colocation in a couple of weeks so I believe they will be able to accomodate the APW3++? Until then (1 to 2 weeks), I will have to run in my aprtment. Is it risky to run for even a short period of time? Am I risking low hashing and restart once in a while? Or am I risking to kill the miner or burn the house?

Also, can you post a link to a power cord to buy for the APW3++? I have spare ones that came with EVGA 750 BQ psus. One says 105 C 3 x 18 AWG (0.824 mm2) 300V. Other one says 60 C 3/c 18 AWG (0.824 mm2) 300 V. Are they good or bad to use with this?

Can someone answer this please?

Short answer: Its a new machine so no one can be sure. You can be the first to try it and let us know how it goes.

That said, here is what I guess...
A3 consumes 1200W so you should be good with APW++ at 110V (I only run mine @240V). It takes any regular computer power cable (C13).
Do you have access to the breaker switch in case you trip it? If not then you have to take more care.
Antminers can be loud! Noise might be your biggest concern not power.

If you are really, really daring and are ok with voiding your warranty you can power up one or two boards instead of all 3.

When you power it up that first night treat it like a new born baby. Don't sleep. Just watch it hash away all night.

Good luck!

It its 2 hours past the showing times they promised for demo day and not 1 scrap of information has come out.

There is no more "wait for demo day for news" demo day has come and gone and there is nothing.

I received the same response but was asked if I wanted to go meet in Miami on the 20th for "demonstration day" of their machine.

Read your own post. You said it was on Saturday the 20th.

33  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: January 19, 2018, 06:15:55 PM

Halong may very well have every intention of trying to create an actual miner so this is not the typical run away with the money scam. However they are completely deceptive in their tactics.

This just sparked an idea in my mind... the initial conversation about Halong having $30 Million in development funds is backed by zero data. Whomever those investors are, nobody knows. Maybe the investment never happened.

However... they started taking orders in November. They probably raised $10-$15M doing THAT, and gave themselves until April to figure it out. They're TRYING to make a miner, and have six months to pull it off using the pre-order money. Maybe seven months if they announce an unexpected problem, or "yield issue" with the wafers or some other such excuse. Maybe the pull it off, maybe they don't.

In the video, people swore they were looking at an S9. In the photos, people swear its an Innosilicon product. They used whatever was available to generate their buzz. Prototypes, they'll say. Keyword in SkyLakeMine's post above... "intention" -- they're scrambling to make it happen? Who knows.

Yes. I think you got my general idea.

We are at the end of January and production orders are supposed to be out by end of March/beginning of April at latest. 8 Weeks!!!
Does someone know the lead times for these types of machines? It has to be several months or a couple quarters?

We have no demo machines. No concrete specifications. Just one machine that Scott keeps under wraps.

And Halong is busy making marketing announcements about their next machines that will compete with Bitmain A3? Really. WTF!!!!

They should be focused like a laser beam on making mining machines and delivering them.
If they were a real company they would be focused on the task at hand. They have priorities all wrong. That's why I say they are a scam.

Stop the senseless marketing crap and get the job done. That's the only way they can make this right.

34  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: January 19, 2018, 05:50:06 PM

The video was taken in the office of Slushpool together with Jan Braiins (the CEO of Slushpool).
Why they should do a fake video? It is 100% confirmed by him.

Tbh that's the only thing which keeps my hopes up at the moment.

Maybe Adam Back lied to us, but both slush & Adam? C'mon that's highly unlikely.

Slush and Back have similar interests and are intellectually compatible.
https://slushpool.com/news/adam-back-in-prague/
Slush is always liking Back's tweets
And Slush will never mine BCH.

And there are miners coming online who will only be mining BCH
http://coingeek.com/bitcoin-bch-entrepreneur-calvin-ayre-goes-mining/

There are 2 camps.
BTC = Back,Blockstream,BTC Core devs,Slush, etc. But they had no hardware miners. So they needed Halong.
BCH = Craig Wright,Ayres,Roger Ver with his bitcoincom pool,Via exchange with its BCH base trading pairs and Bitmain to provide the mining hardware

The bottom line is that BTC camp needed a hardware miner to thwart Bitmain. Thus was Halong born.

If you believe that Bitmain is truly evil and you believe they pose an existential threat to your lively-hood then you will do anything to stop them. Yes, even setting up elaborate shell companies like Halong, taking money from the unwary to funnel into your anti-Wu marketing campaign. The end justifies the means.

The $200K from Back may have been just an initial funding for Halong operations that was not his personal money. It could have been Blockstream funds earmarked for marketing anyway so its not new money. Its just the same money with a public announcement to get attention. It happens ALL THE TIME in the corporate and government world.

People have to connect the dots and realize when they are being played.

Shipping within China starts next Tuesday and Chinese users have a big advantage as the rest of the world will need another one week before shipment starts.

Someone is getting theirs on Monday.

So you are invited for that demo? or who is?!

Nope, not me. Someone else needs to report first hand.
38  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: January 18, 2018, 09:46:27 PM
Well it seems like Scott has gone dark.

He is probably swamped at the conference so that by itself should not be troubling.

They need to show something soon and something good. They know what they have to do but they just don't do it.

Saturday is D day. Demonstration Day for Halong and could be Doomsday for them if they do not open up right now.

39  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: January 18, 2018, 04:54:21 PM
We have talked to Innosilicon regarding Halong using one of their machines in the press pictures and we have reached a concrete verdict. We will be taking our business elsewhere.
Caveat emptor, please do not delve any further into this smoke and mirror operation and put more money into this. We have done the most intensive research by far of anyone online and there simply isn't a silver lining.

I'm going to read between the lines here. This is pure speculation but after all this is the speculation forum.

Halong stole the Innosilicon hardware and is passing it off for its own.
Innosilicon might threaten to sue Halong, cease and desist, whatever.

The point is that anyone putting money into this venture could lose it all to the lawyers or it just goes poof.

I hope I am wrong. Or everyone gets a miner that mines 11 Th/s @ 1500W. In June.

He has posted more information regarding his dealings with Halong on the other thread. You can find it by clicking on his profile and going to his only other post.

Keep in mind these are his only 2 posts, and if everything is true, it's nice to try and help everyone out by being transparent.

I followed his first post carefully. He found out some additional information about Halong between first and second post. Hoping he can elaborate.
