1  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ONE CORE CPU - is this a problem? on: May 26, 2011, 07:39:25 AM
Yea that's right!

So I can just run it as is???
2  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: ONE CORE CPU - is this a problem? on: May 26, 2011, 07:33:45 AM
Thanks

trying to understand what you said here. I am a newbie.

By "leaving one thread open", do U mean a CPU thread? Right now i am currently running this CPU with only ONE core.

Also - i have the 6990, and im not trying to use the CPU for mining.

So... can U explain?

What I want to know is whether  or not the CPU can be a LIMITING factor on the job?
3  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: poclbm using CPU 100% even though using GPU? on: May 26, 2011, 07:30:15 AM
But then U are limiting something from doing it's job, no?

I mean -there is a reason the CPU is on a 100%, no? Or actually the fault is that it's doing NOTHING while running on 100%???
4  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: poclbm using CPU 100% even though using GPU? on: May 26, 2011, 07:09:33 AM
I have the same problem:

6990
AMD Sampron (one or dual cores - not sure), running at 100% all the time.

5  Bitcoin / Mining / ONE CORE CPU - is this a problem? on: May 26, 2011, 07:08:06 AM
Hi
I got a sampron CPU - that is suppose to be unlockable to 2 cores. But I can't do it.

In the meantime, my mining is making my Sampron run at %100. I don't mind that, unless it is slowing down my mining. Does it???

Thanks

"pooled mining"? What is that? Should I just google it?
7  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: OMG - HELP - don't hate me - Help me (: on: May 26, 2011, 06:21:35 AM
IT"S WORKING.

I think.

I don't see any money adding up in the transaction  Cheesy  seriously....

It was BOILING - I couldn't touch the card.

I downloaded and installed MSI AFTERBURNER, and manully set the fans to 100, and the temps went down from 90 to 65

But how do I even know if it's making coins?
I see both the Caymen cores working on 99%, but who says they are doing what they need to?

Ohhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

I will try it right now!!!

How many MHAShs should I see per second?

just want to make sure my card is working as it should
9  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: OMG - HELP - don't hate me - Help me (: on: May 26, 2011, 05:54:36 AM
YES i was running GPU-Z and CPU-Z!!!
Wow how did U know that?

Also - why does it use only one of the GPu's instead of both???

Thank you for replying!

I am new to UBUNTU (never ever used it), and it took me hours so begin. Ruining things in the DOS level (is that what's it called - the TERMINAL)  - I can't do it! It's horrid to me - a night mare.

1. Bought a mining rig w 6990

2. Installed Ubuntu

3. Failed.

4. Installed Windows 7.

5. Installed Bitcoin

- Bitcoin downloaded all the blocks (that took a while)

6. Installed GUIminer

7. Closed all windows.

-started GUIminer

- set to SOLO

- Set user name and password - check

- set to server - check

- Pressed "start mining"

- device set to CAYMEN

THEN - it started mining: GPU temps to 70+.
CPU load - 100% (why?)

YET - only ONE GPU (out of the two in the 6990) is working. WHY???

System froze - blue screen of death.

Started again - system froze again (this time - no BSOD - just nothing is moving (not even the MOUSE)

Please - HELP

I love U guys (i really mean it)

12  Bitcoin / Mining / Theoretical Inquiry - What is the purpose of the computational power for? on: May 16, 2011, 08:32:50 PM
Imagine I am an alien that just landed here.

I learn a bit about Bicoins, and I ask: What is the computational power of the GPU used for while he is mining?

The product of such computational power put into work has a functional (or usable) product?

OR are these just "made up" or "blank" calculations that solely require work?

Thanks

15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Who or Where do I buy BTC? on: May 16, 2011, 03:28:42 AM
Hello.
Perhaps investing instead of mining  Huh

So where do I buy BTC from?

Thanks

Hello.
New here.

Where is the STICKY  Huh

Please give us a sticky which will answer some of these very-modest beginners questions:

1. Which GPU is the fastest miner?

2. Can I get any CPU for the job (even a $20 one)?

3. How many GB of RAM do one need?

4. Should I use a small SSD as opposed to a small HDD?

5. Motherboard - advice!

6. What does a mining machine cost per month in terms of electricity?

7. Can I live with my mining PC (put in the bedroom) (i'm a student)?

8. Here's one: How many U.S DOLLARS does a mining machine (with the strongest single-card GPU) expected to "create" per month?

U get the point! We need a sticky!

U want to hear the funny thing? I sold my 5970 two months ago (I didn't even know what Bitcoins is, let alone mining), thinking - who needs it?!

(:

So it's the 5970? I am surprised. I thought the 6990 will put it to shame. Weird.
19  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: First Mining Machine - A newbie - Your Help (: on: May 15, 2011, 05:54:08 AM
I should have figured that this is the meaning of a cloned drive! Of course!

I am dead-scared about going into mining, but I am better off buying a rig, as it is still usable even if the US GOV decides to shut this thing down (:
At least I will have a sick gaming rig  Tongue

I'm actually a broke student, with bills to pay - but I BELIEVE IN THIS SO MUCH, that my body is BOILING with excitement!
20  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: First Mining Machine - A newbie - Your Help (: on: May 15, 2011, 05:43:56 AM
Wow thanks! I don't even know what cloned drives mean - but I will look into that!!!
