281  Other / Meta / Re: What should be included in a newbie welcome message? on: August 21, 2018, 09:27:05 AM
OP, that's a good list you have there, will be good for now, IMHO.

My suggestion would be to add something that would catch the eye of the reader (some flashy text, red text, increased font size etc.) to avoid having this list ignored in the same way people normally look over the TOS of any software application.

Just my 2 cents  Smiley
282  Other / Meta / Re: @theymos, many community suggestions but silence from your side.[Answerd] on: August 21, 2018, 09:10:49 AM
It's a bit frustrating, indeed, to see that a lot of time we spend here in Meta, with the ideas for improvement that are not taken into consideration or at least some sort of acknowledgment from the admin.

I remember I have also posted something similar to your thread here in the past (maybe not that direct  Smiley ) where I was asking if any of the proposed solutions/improvements have ever been implemented but I didn't get any replies from the people in charge with the forum.

Maybe you'll have better luck now Smiley
283  Other / Meta / Re: Community generated suggestions to improve the forum (+ eventual voting on them) on: August 21, 2018, 09:05:59 AM
That is a nice list you have there, I hope they will be implemented sooner than later.

I have also brought 2 possible improvement ideas to the forum some time back:

I would appreciate it if you could take a look over them and if they look good to you, add them to the OP.
284  Other / Meta / Re: The Place of Knowledge in post replies on: August 21, 2018, 08:54:49 AM
I think it depends on the people who are on this forum and the time they would like to invest in this activity.

Personally, if I see a thread where I don't really know anything about it and I don't have time to "dig deeper" into the subject I refrain from posting. I think this is basic common sense.

On the other hand, some people just want to increase post count for bounty/signature campaigns or they are simply ignorant.
285  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price forecasting (Yale University research) on: August 20, 2018, 09:31:44 AM
If it's something researched at Yale then it must be true  Roll Eyes jk

No one can predict the price of bitcoin since everything is news driven. Every time something good or bad shows up in the news, BTC will increase or decrease. It's simple.

If you can find out the information before it makes it to the news channels then you're all set.
286  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is the BTC market warming up? on: August 20, 2018, 09:27:51 AM
I think it's still going to sit at these values ($5-6k) for some time.

Maybe we will see an slight upward trend by the end of the year but it's not going to be anything close to what it was in 2017.
287  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who will pull a Lingham this time? on: August 20, 2018, 09:24:39 AM
From what I've seen until now, usually people are very optimistic when it comes to the investments they make.

Very few people do what Vinny did. I think he just wanted to see if he can bring BTC down using his influences channels and then re-buy.

Looks like this plan didn't work though Smiley
288  Economy / Speculation / Re: A.I. and value of the Bitcoin! on: August 20, 2018, 09:17:32 AM
I don't think AI can predict the price of Bitcoin.

As you might have noticed by now, BTC price is linked to news and market trends. The news influence people in buying/selling BTC and this moves the price up/down.

289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Celebrity coins on: August 20, 2018, 08:13:27 AM
Not to mention that you can be sued if you do that Smiley

Although, I think you won't get sued until you start to make enough money with the celebrity coin.

What other celebrity coins that do not have the permission of the celebrity do you guys know of?
290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ethereum price now under 300$ !!!! on: August 20, 2018, 08:10:00 AM
Newsflash... It was $259 last week...

I didn't think I would go that low at this point in the year. My prediction was that will not go under $300 but seems I was wrong  Cry

It's a good time to buy though so, keep your money close Cheesy
291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: EOS announces the establishment of autonomous committee on: August 20, 2018, 08:05:32 AM
This is good news Smiley Transparency is always a good thing if you don't have anything to hide so, bravo to the guys who decided to go on this approach.

I think some good publicity will come out of having Akon on board so, this couldn't be bad.

292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Competition between altcoins on: August 20, 2018, 08:01:05 AM
Yes, you are right, there are way to many crypto currencies right now on the market.

The average life span of a crypto currency is about 1.5 years so, you can expect a lot of them to fail during this time but some of them will succeed and will be used on a larger scale.

Take a look at ETH, a few years ago it was just an ordinary crypto currency but now it's used by millions of people.

I think there will always be a lot of them on the market because as soon as one closes, another one comes back to take it's place.

You need to weed though them and select the ones with a good idea behind and a higher rate of success.
293  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Bitcointalk account security on: August 20, 2018, 07:42:24 AM
Thanks for the guide! It looks good Smiley

I would also add in the password section that one shouldn't use the same password for multiple websites.

This is the main issue with many of the account hacks (along side phishing of course), there are a lot of people requesting others to sign-up on their new website (bounty campaign, new coin etc) and people make the mistake to use their bitcointalk credentials or use the same password.

It is extremely easy to setup a site that only collects that information and people may unknowingly give away their credentials for a couple bucks.
294  Other / Meta / Re: 2 MILLION users and their STATS on: August 20, 2018, 07:27:25 AM
I guess its because of the merit system, after this system introduce many cheaters and spammer's lose their hope to rank up and there are lots of users get negative trust because of merit abusing most of the users with negative trust quit the forum and I think some of them now are focusing on 1 account.
...
Yeah, I agree but this is a good thing in the end Smiley We're getting rid of the people who aren't interested in crypto.

I was trying to say that I was expecting more users to be lurking here (even if they don't post) but it seems the community isn't as big as I originally thought.
295  Other / Meta / Re: post count issue on: August 15, 2018, 08:54:37 PM
all my recent posts are intact though ! I dont see any of my recent posts deleted
You won't get notified when one of your posts gets deleted if the thread where it was posted was completely removed. You will only be notified when a thread/post created by you is specifically removed by a moderator/user that manages a self-moderated thread.

Don't worry about the post count, it's not really relevant in the long run.

296  Other / Meta / Re: 2 MILLION users and their STATS on: August 15, 2018, 08:29:40 PM
These stats look nice Smiley Thanks for taking the time to summarize them.

It's interesting to see that out of 2.3 MILLION users, the active users in the last month is roughly 65k. I was expecting more users to be active in the last month.

Not to mention that the users active in the last YEAR is under 100k... Not sure about you, but I was expecting at least 700k users to be active in the last year.

I wonder what is happening to them... Are they losing interest in crypto in general due to the volatility or are they moving on to other forums/social media groups?

What do you think?

297  Other / Meta / Re: [Survey] Who has who on its Ignore List? (Second try) on: August 15, 2018, 08:20:10 PM
If you ask me, I think it's a waste of time & energy to ignore people. Not to mention that you'll be losing valuable information in the end or miss out on new opportunities.

I know you may think person X is an idiot or does not have anything valuable to say right now, but keep in mind that this may change in the near future and you'll be missing out.

Remember, everyone was saying Steve Jobs was always an arrogant idiot (even when he wasn't rich).

Information has always been King, isolation yourself from it is never a good idea Wink

Going back to your question, as you might have guessed it, I haven't ignored anyone here. Although, I have crossed paths with some idiots here  Roll Eyes
298  Other / Meta / Re: Disable delete option from merited post. on: August 15, 2018, 08:08:29 PM
I'm not sure why people are still concerned with the merit thing...

As Theymos said here:
While we will not be directly moderating this, I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.
So, it's clear merit is not moderated. While I don't agree with a lot of merit being sent on shit posts, you can complain about it endlessly it's not going to change and it's not going to be relevant to forbid deletion for the posts that were merited.

I also remember Theymos said that you can also top up with merits anyone whom you think deserves to rank-up, so it's useless to complain about it.

If 10% of the energy devoted to this "merit talk" would be dedicated to fighting the scammers on this forum who steal ACTUAL MONEY from people, we would be in a totally different place right now...

299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: New CPU Mine-able Coins on: August 15, 2018, 10:51:44 AM
I am managing a CPU mining thread here: [CryptoNight] CPU mining guide & coins that will get you a return.

Take a look there and you will find what you're looking for Wink
300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Mofos on: August 15, 2018, 09:38:28 AM
If you would have been here long enough you would have seen that this types of posts are to be expected every time the market sinks.

When the market goes up all the posts you're going to see are related to 'Will X coin reach 20k?' and stuff like that.

It's just n00bs doing what n00bs usually do - shit posts.
