1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STAR COIN [STR] - The coin with bonus STAR blocks on: January 25, 2015, 02:50:11 AM
Hi All,

Is there a block explorer?

tuaris - There is currently a new block explorer being developed. Please bare with us, we will post news here!

Hey, is the source updated to compile on linux?
the one i compiled comes up as 1.6.0 and just hangs on those check points, NOT to mention the size of the blockchain. lol

Blackross - Thats an older version! You must have grabbed that from the original repo, checkout mcpackin's 1.7.1 release here: https://github.com/strcoin/starcoin/releases/tag/v1.7.1.0-str ... The chain has grown much larger since this release so you will see the checkpoints outdated link, but it should still sync.. if you open the debug console you should see it moving.. any problems with syncing let me know and I'll post you an example starcoin.conf

Though I'm not sure what mcpackin has in the works, we are working on stuff over here (more slowly than expected due to work commitments) and hopefully with his work and ours we'll have a new revision with updated checkpoints uploaded and merged sometime in the coming month or 2!

If he's going to let it expire he needs to give it over to someone who will keep it going forever. I can volunteer for that. What about the webhosting, what's the deal there?

it was actually my bad me thinks... anyways got some hosting sorted and a couple of additional domains! Just give us a week or 3 to get the block explorer fixed..

I was just offering since hosting and DNS is super cheap, especially if it's longterm, and it's pretty unprofessional to have it just tank/disappear. It also can open  up security issues.
if you check the free domain names, you'll see that starcoin.info and starcoin.com already occupied. But there are other options. For example bit.starcoin or similar. The question is how much serious  the new organizer about of the project. Or again they want to organize a pump and dump?
I can give you the example of a project Diamond. See how professional these guys revived coin.

Please read my previous posts!!

Sit back, stop worrying about it, we have it sorted!!

Hm..
Everything will depend on whether what really can be done in the current situation  Cool
On this coin long since no one paid attention, and suddenly this activity.
It is a bit strange.
References to the wallet http://starcoin.info/Starcoin.zip and the site www.starcoin.info has long been disabled. Can you say why?

The domain expired as nzdude has been very busy with work, and we've all been too busy to sort it out until now.

I appreciate your concern.. Smiley Did you have something constructive to add?

Considering that today several times were falling power network to 30 mh\s?
some little a  Asic miners and will again fork. The helps only the lack of attention to starcoin from major miners.
But I hope that those who want to announce the loud of start, already prepared for this...

I'm struggling to understand what you are trying to say?
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STAR COIN [STR] - The coin with bonus STAR blocks on: October 29, 2014, 12:51:32 AM
just look at the site http://www.coinwarz.com/ to assess the situation with starcoin. And you understand why no one answers.

At position 24.. Doesn't look too bad considering until the strip miners come on board that is..

Hi all,

So work has been nightmarish, we've had some things in the works (new website/new block explorer, support forum/bug tracker, but wait there is still more) for the best part of the year and were finally getting close to getting them online..

I want to make sure everyone is running okay before we get many more clients online...  sooo....

Is everyone syncing up fine, are your checkpoints alright?

Is anyone getting error messages?

Anyone having other problems with the network?

To help get everything resolved quickly please reply to this post with your issues, including a copy of your .conf file, the results of "getinfo", "getcheckpoint" and "getblockcount"..

Thanks all for your help,

cheers,

infin.

It has broken stake mining. The explanation is here and in the cross-linked threads.
The blocks of interest are #347385 and #347386.

Thanks for your pm bee7, I am looking into it this week!

It seems you did not get what checkpoint I meant.

I'm pretty sure I understood :/

getcheckpoint
{
"synccheckpoint" : "000000231e3abea847919c620b5693a36b6e454923b42398db927387523a08e4",
"height" : 371800,
"timestamp" : "2013-12-23 07:38:54 UTC"
}

As mentioned above please follow the instructions I posted to remove the checkpoint error!!
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STAR COIN [STR] - The coin with bonus STAR blocks on: January 09, 2014, 01:37:04 AM
But still, it is annoying and should be fixed in a correct way (by broadcasting the checkpoint) as otherwise cryptsy could easily reject the 'application'.

The checkpoint is being broadcasted, the checkpoint was updated on 24/12 I'm thinking this problem happens when the cpu gets overloaded during the sync or if memory drops too low, I am looking into the problem and will let you guys know when if I can narrow it down further!
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STAR COIN [STR] - The coin with bonus STAR blocks on: January 07, 2014, 03:51:16 PM

I also tried this.  On one wallet it worked, but on another it hasn't.  I even went so far as to transfer all the coins out of the wallet, completely deleted the wallet.dat and blockchain (everything in the data folder) and let the blockchain download from scratch.  Still have that checkpoint message.

It doesn't hurt anything though, right?  I'm still solo mining fine.

It shouldn't hurt anything as long as you are on the correct chain but while you are seeing that message there is no way to ensure that.

If you have a client that has synced correctly, try following these directions to get them both working right..

0. check you disks for corruptions, chkdsk or something similar
1. stop both clients
2. make a backup of the wallet and the chain on the broken client (wallet.dat, blkindex.dat, blk0001.dat and database folder)
3. delete the original blkindex.dat, blk0001.dat and database folder in the data directory of the broken client
4. copy the .dat files and database folder from the working client computers data directory to the broken clients data directory
5. open a command prompt or shell
6. run "starcoin-qt -rescan"
7. once the client opens, open the debug rpc console
8. if your wallet is locked unlock it using walletpassphrase <password> 99 false
9. run the command checkwallet
10. if checkwallet found problems run repairwallet
11. you should have working client with your previous balance restored
12. if you wallet hasn't locked itself you can re-lock it with walletlock

Hope this helps,

ps. as a general rule it pays to keep a copy of the blockchain handy in case you need to restore it due to a corruption, saves having to resync the whole thing, eventually I'm hoping to provide a downloadable copy of the blockchain to save time resyncing Wink

Hi hndrk,

When StarCoin is accepted at Cryptsy,
how will it be traded?
It will be traded in the same way as the other coins on the site.

People have to believe in the coin for them to trade their coins for it, right?
How are they going to believe in it?
We have some ideas that are currently in the works to increase confidence in the coin, need to run through some stuff with nzdude, but will keep you posted

Will the coin automatically start trading for LiteCoins and BitCoins if Cryptsy accepts it onto their site?

Yes, pretty much.

--------------------------------

Did this, still says checkpoint too old. Will try again.

Hi VesperWillow,

Strange... You can try making a copy of peers.dat while the client is stopped and deleting the original, also make sure there are no other processor intensive applications running while it syncs..

Note: you can stop the client at points during the chain download process and make a copy of the chain (both .dat files and the database directory), just remember before stopping the client, ensure that it is not displaying the "checkpoint" error

It would be great to come up with a complete process that works for everyone, so please let us know how you go!

regards,

infin.

Hi All,

For those who are having problems...

Download the new 1.6 update released on 24/December at the website (http://www.starcoin.info/download.php)

If you get the checkpoint error and you have already updated to the new client for some reason or another corruption has occured in the chain...

To be able to fix you need to either redownload the blockchain from scratch or copy the chain from another working client and start the client with the command line option "-rescan".

Don't forget to backup your wallet before beginning this process just in case, and also don't forget to use the checkwallet/repairwallet command inside the debug console once the process is complete to confirm that your balance is corrected.

If anyone needs a hand feel free to drop me a pm.

Regards,

infin.

Thank you Inifinitevs!

I received a big part of my Starcoins back. You're the hero of today Smiley

Hi Don,

Glad I could Help! Smiley

Now (and I am directing this at anyone that wants to be involved) what are we going to do about getting the coins trading again, NZDude mentioned in a previous post that he can't really dedicate himself to the project, I am happy to help where I can but what we need is a bunch of people willing to volunteer some time and more critically a project manager to organise what needs to be done, ie.

  • Updates to codebase, bug fixes etc
  • Advertising / Raising awareness for the coin / Restoring confidence
  • Get more pools online

NZDude, do you have anything to add, any ideas about moving forward, anyone please add their ideas??
