961  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: The story of Betnomi.com (Exit Scam) on: August 08, 2023, 09:58:52 PM
The minimum amount of ledgers you would need to buy through the official ledger website is ~300 if I remember correctly.

I highly doubt that sorsis spent 100x 80 USD or so...
It's 100.

300 minimum is for custom packaged ledgers. The one that I got was only with logo, no custom packaging.

I just noticed now this topic. And I remember I saw a post once ago made by them, talking about these hardware wallets used by them during raffles. After some research I found the respective post, which was made on Arpil 11th, 2023:

Let me clarify some details. To begin with, these custom wallets were not originally intended for ruffles or any other contests and events. These custom wallets were ordered in 2021 directly from the manufacturer to thank the employees for their hard work (quite a while has passed since then, and it is not surprising that the firmware is a little outdated). But we still had a few wallets left, until one of the forum users suggested some ideas where we can put them.

However, I found another post made from their secondary account, stating something a little contradictory...

Betnomi team, could you more personalize your gifts to Betnomi users, please.

On your gifts, Ledger wallets, if possible please consider to print usernames of winners from your contests. On each awarded and distributed Ledger wallets to contest winners, there are Ledger, Betnomi and username
At the moment, the manufacturer does not provide customization options.

Even if we wanted to implement this, we would have to buy a batch of new Ledgers, and ask one of our employees to drop everything and take over the entire process (including communication with users, communication with designers, communication with a laser engraving company and delivery , by itself). We are not opposed to this, but users should understand that we will be waiting for some kind of return. 🦊

So at some point in time, this personalisation of the products was possible, then it was not possible anymore... (or, maybe, it was not possible anymore in some conditions which they agreed on?). In any case, the source of  the Ledgers should be now clear (based on their statement, at least): they bought them a while ago, for their employees so this is why they had a remaining stash which was offered through raffles or other contests.

In my case icopress gave the address to someone from betnomi and they sent the package. There was no real name of the sender on the label, just a nickname. I have the point of origin on my tracking, but it's only a post office location.

I won 3 such Ledgers from Betnomi. In my case all 3 were shipped by minerjones. And all arrived in perfect condition.

963  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Whirlwind.money | ⚡No Fee⚡ | Ultimate Privacy | Anonymity Mining 12% APR🔥 on: August 08, 2023, 09:35:16 PM
I don't know if Gazeta was referring to me, but I experienced the same kind of problems reported by Gazeta. Only with less emails back and forth from WW ( and also having a smaller stash over there).

Thanks for your input, dear fillippone. I did not want to use names as I did not know if you (or others) would feel comfortable if I did it. However, it is useful that someone else joined this discussion and supported the issues I raised above and also in the past.

At the moment, there are more than 550 users which keep their funds as deposits inside notes and I believe that some of them are also forum users. Perhaps someone else could also intervene and tell us if he received the payments correctly (meaning everyday and the correct amount) or not...? Or if he received other information through emails from WhirlWind...?

The problem is not that big in my case, at least, as I do not have a huge amount stored. Perhaps I would have reacted differently if I stashed there 1-2-3-4-5 BTC. But, however, it is not normal what is happening. Someone should come with an explanation... At least it would be common sense to do that.

Totusi, aceste pictograme contin texte in engleza.

965  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Whirlwind.money | ⚡No Fee⚡ | Ultimate Privacy | Anonymity Mining 12% APR🔥 on: August 08, 2023, 08:53:17 PM
After a while the problem resolved on my side as well and I can access again the Tor version of the website. Clearnet version is still down though.

However, this is not my main problem.

I also haven't seen whirlwindmoney member in forum since July (more than a month ago), and it would be nice to hear something from them about this issue.

^This is my main problem.

Since I joined this anonymity mining campaign I never cashed out anything from my note. And, after first 2-3 weeks, when I admit that I did not check thoroughly everyday my balance for observing if I received or not the daily reward, after that I started doing it on a daily basis.

However, I started doing it on a daily basis because I believe that during first weeks I did not always receive the daily reward. However, since I can not say that I checked properly, I am also not 100% sure about this. But after this while I checked my balance everyday, I wrote down the existing balance, I checked in the next day if my balance was bigger and with what amount and I also checked if that amount was correct.

I noticed some irregularities since I started doing this.

So first of all, I did not receive everyday the daily reward. In some cases -- but not always in the next day I got a double reward. Another curious problem was the fact that my reward was not always an amount slightly raising from a day to another. Let's say that today I was supposed to receive 1000 sats/day as a reward. If today I got 1000 sats then tomorrow it should be a greater reward, as the reward applies to the existent amount. However, it should not be a big difference. But during all this time since I kept the rewards under severe scrutiny I noticed that in a day I was getting a reward, in the next day I was getting a reward smaller with a few hundred sats, next day I was getting a reward greater with a few hundred sats, next day I got again the correct amount, then again a smaller one then again one a bit higher and so on.

On June 14th I wrote to Whirlwind and I kindly asked them to check in which days I did not receive the rewards between May 17th (the day I joined the anonymity campaign) and June 14th. They told me that they make manual payments and this is why some errors appear but they always resolve them -- so, in case the person in charge with the payments forgot to pay you today then tomorrow you will get a double payment. This was not always happening.

They also told me that they will make this check for the rewards I received until then and they'll come back with a report. The report was not sent until current day.

Excepting that, since that day I kept emailing them each time when the daily reward was not sent again. Their last reply to my emails was on June 25th. Since then I emailed them 5 more times, informing that the daily reward was not sent again but they never replied anymore. I also asked in some of these emails how much it's going to take until they'll come with that report. Since they never replied anymore, I also have no idea about that.

In any case, this problem is not a singular. I know other forum users which also did not receive their daily rewards or which did not receive the right amounts.

Right now, this is the second consecutive day when the daily reward is not sent. I guess that if WhirlWind wants to act in a professional manner, first of all they should be more present on the forum and also be supportive when customers ask for their help through emails...
966  Economy / Services / Re: [OFNT] [AOBT] The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators on: August 08, 2023, 08:32:10 PM
I was wondering if we could add also this thread to the list of topics to be translated:

Campaign to improve posting quality for local boards

At least, those interested in contributing to the improvement of quality in their local boards can act by working on this topic. However, the translation should not be a literal one, but an adapted one. Meaning that the translators should add, eventually, some materials from their language inside the translation, present what should be improved, what should be avoided and so on. For this reason, such a translation is a complex one, as it represents, in fact, the creation of a different topic in the respective local board and the issues presented in the topic should match the issues from the respective local board.

For example, when I and 1miau made translations of this topic in Romanian and German boards we mentioned the problems of "Romglish" and "Denglish", which are a monster killer of the mother language, by mixing English with Romanian and, respectively, with German. This is not natural and, in decades, it will only alter the language.

So if anyone is interested, the following form should be filled:

Since our campaign is dedicated to local boards, I would be happy if you can bring our campaign to your local board and add your own points, relevant for your local board.
Important:
Part of the task is to review our German and Romanian topics and create your own topic dedicated to your local board, not a translation of the Meta announcement.
As a reference, your topic should be unique and customized for your local board. [...]

You can already apply below by reserving your language, just submit a post:

If anyone is curious how such translation should be like, feel free to take a look at existent translations:

Maybe I can start to set up an attempt to bring this topic to more local boards or as we have discussed recently, where I was planning to launch a topic, where people could link their recent posts and good ones would receive an additional chunk of Merit if the requirements are met. At least, Merit is meant that way: to reward quality posts.

Then perhaps this also the right moment to remind to all users of this topic that they can show their involvement too by translating and adapting this topic in their local boards:

Translations to local boards

Since our campaign is dedicated to local boards, I would be happy if you can bring our campaign to your local board and add your own points, relevant for your local board.
Important:
Part of the task is to review our German and Romanian topics and create your own topic dedicated to your local board, not a translation of the Meta announcement.

You can already apply below by reserving your language, just submit a post:

Code:

#Proof of JOIN

Bitcointalk Account:

The highlighted part is crucial, as in this case it is not needed a literal translation of this topic, but one adapted to the customs and idiom of each language. I will also make this suggestion to AOBT group and maybe we'll get some support from there as well.

For those interested to see how such adapted topic looks like they can take a look at the existing translations:

Translations

Romanian - GazetaBitcoin
German - 1miau

And, speaking of that, I was wondering if 1miau could add these translations to the OP?

Nowadays, many people only spend Merit for their fellow sigspammer friends, no matter if the post is really worth it. It's like "am I getting my fair share of Merit to join the next signature campaign?". People don't care about their posting quality, but still want enough Merit to be accepted in a campaign.
This occured in our German local board, which is really a shame.  Cry

I am very sorry to hear how things are working inside German board. For sure, the situation does not look good. The mod from that section should act with a strong hand against spam -- or, in case the workload is too much for him, perhaps he can ask for some help...?
968  Other / Meta / Re: Campaign to improve posting quality for local boards on: August 07, 2023, 03:32:30 PM
Maybe this text would determine all of us to try to use our languages more correctly...
I hope so, dear GazetaBitcoin. Luckily, applying our native languages correctly is not very difficult, sometimes we just need to be aware of it.  Smiley

I think that a very important aspect is the fact that other people are also seeing a big problem in altering mother languages with English. Perhaps such people are everywhere in the world, talking about best ways to preserve their languages... Another important aspect is to have literate people among those trying to keep their languages safe. People with high education are needed -- linguists, academicians, that kind of people which are iconic figures in their countries and which may influence others to the right thing.

So it's good to see that such movements are happening also in the rest of the world, outside this forum. Practically, with our campaign, we only got in line with linguists, teachers and other literate people which try together to preserve their languages and which vouch for correct use of the mother languages!

Hey SmartGold01!

Thank you for your kind feedback.

You are very welcome Smiley

Apology if you don't like someone referring you as Sir or to any honorably names [...]

So I treat people with respect [...]

I really appreciate all the respect you are having and the kind words. The issue is another one though. I don't know if you ever noticed this, but on this forum, usually, all the Newbies looking for merits, all the shit-posters and all the ones spamming the forum for reaching their campaign quota use the terms "Sir", "boss" etc. So having to deal with many of these I can tell you that no normal forum user likes these names. I understand, you want to respect everybody (and, of course to be respected back). However, a better approach is to call the name directly -- be it Gazeta or fillippone or anyone else.

Your good intentions may be misunderstood... Does this make sense, after my explanation? And okay, I understand that you are a very respectful person but others may tend to see you as one of the categories I mentioned above if you'll keep using "Sir" or "boss" or "mister" everywhere.

Just act normally, like you would be talking to some colleagues Smiley Keep a normal attitude. I hope this helps.

I don't want to derail your topic, but I have been interested in trying to do translations to Dutch (my native tongue is Dutch) but this local board is not active at all so I doubt it is really worth it. [...]
My take: I didn't join an international forum to speak Dutch, we have local forums for that. Most Dutch people can read English anyway, which explains why the local board is more or less abandoned.
I think translating topics to Dutch is a waste of time.

If the respective local board is not active, perhaps you are both right about the (lack of) utility of translating these topics in your language.

babygun, however, if you are passionate about translations or if you think that one of my topics would be useful to Dutch local board, you may give it a try. After all, you can see if the new topic would get some attention from Dutch forum users. From my perspective, I have nothing against this. But, of course, it's up to you. No pressure here.

Hello sir GazetaBitcoin please is there any available topics I could use my spare time to work on the translation for 9ja pidgin (Nigeria)? [...] Btw, I have tried to read through the first page and I noticed almost all the topics were already translated and if there is any other please keep it to my reservation as I will like to pick interest to work on it.

Hey there! Thank you for your interest in translating my topics! However, I am afraid that all the topics from OP are already translated in Pidgin. You observed well that "almost all were already translated" -- in fact, absolutely all were already translated... I announced this here:

With these 3 additional translations, all topics from OP are now translated or reserved in German, Polish, Pidgin and Filipino! Big wow for that and I thank to all users which made this possible!

Please I would be glad if you drop available topics to be translated, then I will take immediate effect to start my translation journey, as I know it would also render a great help to my locality.

If you are interested in doing other translations for your local board, try to work on fillippone's topics. As far as I see there are still 3 topics listed there which are not translated yet in Pidgin language. I hope this helps.

Oh and by the way -- do not call me "Sir" Smiley (I am sure that fillippone would also appreciate if you will not call him "Sir".)

Can you try reading my PM from a PC or a laptop instead of a mobile? I already deleted the PM from my Outbox and I would prefer to not have to write it once more. Let me know if the message appears okay when viewing it from a PM.
976  Other / Meta / Re: Campaign to improve posting quality for local boards on: August 06, 2023, 09:22:33 AM
I have a small calendar at home, that kind where you remove the files as days pass. On one side of its files you can find important events which occurred in the past, while on the back side you may find some very interesting short writings. By pure chance, after I removed a file of this calendar I found an article on its page, which relates so much to our campaign of improving the posts quality in our local boards. And this campaign, in fact, vouches for the correct use of our mother languages.

The author of the article is unknown, signing it as "T.C.Z.". But, whoever this T.C.Z., is, he is so right with what he's saying!

I tried to translate the small article below, adapting as much as I could the Romanian idiomatic words in English. Although I could not fully adapt it, as some words make sense only in Romanian, I believe everybody will get the meaning.

Quote
At World Linguistic Congress it's a debate about the differences between how you spell and how you write words. French say: "Most spectacular French word is beaucoup. It has 8 letters but you pronounce only 4 sounds, bocu.". English people say: "In our language, most spectacular word is enough, which you pronounce as inaf. A single letter becomes a phonem. Romanians say: "In Romanian, coolest word is poftim (n.b. poftim can be used for "here you are" and also for "what?"; the article refers to the lattest meaning). You spell it as p-o-f-t-i-m and you pronounce it as - Ăă? (n.b. this is a funny riddle, "Ăă?" meaning a sort of "Whaaaat?" Smiley).

Joke aside, things are not looking well. Just like in all other languages, we imported words and expressions which do not have an equivalent in Romanian, mostly being technical words: soft, hard, hard disk, mouse. However, without any proper justification, we also imported words which have Romanian equivalents: human resources, backstage, fashion.

We also have abbreviations: prof (n.b. like the proff as short of professor), [...] mate, geogra (n.b. similar to Math or Geogra used as short for Mathematics and Geography). Will we say one day ap instead of appartament, [...] or off instead of office?

And then we have acronyms stolen from English: FYI, BTW, ASAP etc.. Speaking of which, if we are in such a hurry (or we are so lazy at writing) RPD would be 25% shorter than ASAP (n.b. RPD is (abusively) used as short for repede, which means fast)!

The peaceful principle saying that "The language is a living phenomena" is a debatable one: terrorists are also a living phenomena. So are the sharks. Or real estate sharks. And so are also foolishness, cowardice or malice... This does not mean we accept them. And the idea that "The habit wins over the rule" is really a language killer. [...]

Maybe this text would determine all of us to try to use our languages more correctly...
977  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Campanie pentru îmbunătățirea calității postărilor on: August 06, 2023, 08:53:36 AM

Am importat insa, fara nicio justificare, cuvinte si expresii cu echivalent 100% in romana: human resources, backstage, fashion.

Avem prescurtari: prof, diriga, mag, cas, mate, geogra. O sa spunem intr-o zi ap in loc de apartament, mas in loc de masina ori serv in loc de serviciu?

Avem, in fine, acronime furate din engleza: FYI, BTW, ASAP etc..

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but some may want them as collectibles, especially the first few batches. And then sweeping makes them much less interesting.

Indeed, I also believe that the fans of collectibles would be very interested about these cards. Regarding the possibility of sweeping them, considering the value of 0.001 BTC, I would not be tempted to move the funds from such card, if I were the owner of it. However, those fearing of being "yogged" may try this as well. But the value is not too big, at least now (perhaps I would have a different mindset if BTC would reach $1M Smiley) so I would take the risk and keep the card as it is. The scenario of having the cards swept by someone else is a very unlikely one, but everyone is free to have a different opinion here.

...I tried to think on scenarios where keeping the funds there makes most sense. And for such scenarios OP can come reassuring the people, although we all know: some will trust the issuer and some may be picky.

It will be up to the winners to decide how they'll proceed. But I would keep the card like it is. It is really nice to have Bitcoin-related collectibles and I am always trying to improve my collection.

PS: the cards are indeed very good looking, I am looking forward for that raffle  Grin

That makes two of us!

Thanks for sharing such amazing article.

And I thank you for inspiring me with the essay you wrote before mine, The Cypherpunk Manifesto!

Here is my small contribution to this unstoppable cause

Much appreciated, bitmover! It is very important to spread among many languages these historic documents which opened the path for free cryptography, private communications and, ultimately, for Bitcoin!

If I may add, those who are interested to read a much longer piece by this visionary, he also wrote The Cyphernomicon, a Cypherpunks FAQ, but not the official one as he clearly stated there. He also wrote True Nyms and Crypto Anarchy.

These documents are also very important for all those which shared Cypherpunk's vision and ideology. I read them both in the past, but I could not find True Nyms online... But I knew there was a book containing this essay. I am talking about Vernor Vinge's True Names and I searched a lot for finding this book. May's True Nyms is in the opening of the book and I was really fascinated while reading his essay.

But thank you for sharing this online version of this essay, which I could never find before!

And thank you bitmover for joining this cause and spreading the word inside Portuguese board about this very important historic document!.
