441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bulgaria do not hold 213000 BTC according to the Minstry of Finance. on: January 31, 2022, 01:10:20 PM
There were a lot of speculations regarding the 213000 bitcoins confiscated by the Bulgarian Government authorities back in 2017.
Everything started after >

Quote
The Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC) published a press release titled “More than 200,000 Bitcoins in Value of 500 Million USD Seized by Bulgarian Authorities

After 5 years of questioning did this really happened, the Ministry of Finance came with an answer of the question whether there were any coins/seeds/passwords confiscated.

Here is the research article of the ClubZ.bg newspaper you can use a translator to read it.

I'll put some parts translated with google :

Quote
In short, the Ministry of Finance "has no information on bitcoins confiscated or confiscated in favor of the state." They added that the inspection was carried out at a time when Asen Vassilev was only a caretaker minister. He ordered the NRA and the Customs Agency to seek answers.

Quote
In addition to the inspection, by letters dated 11-02-151 dated 05.07.2021 and 03.08.2021, the Minister of Finance requested the Prosecutor General to check whether the Bulgarian state owns 213,519 bitcoins. On August 24, 2021, a response was received from the Deputy Prosecutor General at the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office, stating that the Specialized Prosecutor's Office did not seize and store 213,519 bitcoins, "reads the letter from the Ministry of Finance to us.

Quote
Meanwhile, it became clear today that the MP from "Democratic Bulgaria" Ivaylo Mirchev has requested detailed information from Minister Boyko Rashkov about the fate of the alleged bitcoins.

Ivaylo Mirchev wants the Interior Minister to get an answer whether pre-trial proceedings have been instituted, whether an indictment has been filed in court, how many bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies have been seized in the investigation, where bitcoins are stored - online platform / exchange, hot wallet ( wallet on a computer connected to the Internet), on a cold wallet (wallet on a device separate from the computer that does not have an Internet connection) or on other media.

"Do the investigating authorities have the necessary private keys and keywords to recover these private keys in order to dispose of seized bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies, has any evidence been disposed of so far and if so, what order, when and for what reason, are they currently available as evidence in the case and are they available to the prosecutor's office? ”asks Mirchev, who will also expect information from the Minister of Electronic Government Bozhidar Bojanov.

I will follow the case and see it there's any new information coming out anytime soon and I'll keep you updated.
My personal opinion is that the Government never had control over any bitcoins at all, they maybe had the public address of the wallets holding them but never had access to them.
442  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-01-26] Europol report on cryptocurrencies on: January 31, 2022, 12:33:20 PM
Finally the "crypto is used only for fraud" narrative will now fall once for all. Most of the people I argue with about the usefulness of cryptocurrencies are playing the "fraud" card, because that's what the normal people here on the news about crypto the last 10 years. It's the "hackers money".
And the most pity part is that the bitcoin is easier to trace then some fiat.
Hope this will end soon.
443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CEX] Catena X (Catenax.org) | Bridging Blockchains! on: January 31, 2022, 10:21:10 AM
Almost a month after the manager Luuk disappeared, the one in control of the keys keep minting and selling coins.

The last time they minted new coins was a day ago! 9M coins were minted..

Stay Away from this project!! Do not buy at all.
444  Other / New forum software / Re: Automatically save drafts every few secs on: January 31, 2022, 09:39:26 AM
Interesting, even in that case should be possible to recover the post, many times I got restored the posts if the browser manage to recover and open the last open pages, using the "go back" button helps a lot.

Unfortunately this does not apply for TOR, there the things are lost if you don't preview them and the browser closes, so this suggestion will make TOR users' life a lot more easy.
445  Other / Meta / Re: [NEW EPISODE - JAN 22] TheBitcoinTalkShow - 21 questions on: January 31, 2022, 08:17:24 AM
Today I got this in my recommended. 👀

There is another channel (World Crypto Network) featuring a Bitcoin Talk Show which started back in 2014 and still goes on as the last video from the playlist was from 2020.

The situation with the Twitter account is a bit different, there is a https://twitter.com/BitcoinTalkShow account which is inactive since again 2014 so I assume it's probably connected to the "show". That's why our Bitcointalk Show's handle is @btctalkshow. The original was already taken by this 2014 project.

What I love now is to see the our show showing on the top of the search list in youtube when you write  "BitcoinTalk Show", it wasn't like this before.
Still if you write it "Bitcoin Talk Show" we are not shown in the top list. Hope this will change soon.
446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trezor implements Address Ownership Proof Protocol, more regulation less privacy on: January 28, 2022, 10:54:00 AM
I don't like the direction where the wind is blowing to but looks like this soon will be a world wide spread. I don't think this will affect those who are more privacy concern, at least not for now. I don't know any CEX exchange not requiring KYC process of verification before you can withdraw anything (or maybe small amours below 50$) so privacy and CEX cannot go together.

Paper wallets and offline cold wallets are the way.
447  Other / Meta / Re: Another "Legednary" newbie on: January 28, 2022, 09:04:21 AM
Just by looking at the first page of the post history make me lazy to check all the pages where the first page already starts at Bounty reports. If merit is not implemented then those 16 forum users would already be legendaries. Good thing that there's merits required for ranking up prevents them from increase their rank through posting of bounty reports. Bounty reports here, bounty reports there and bounty reports everywhere  Cheesy good thing there's mods who will delete useless posts.

There's a very nice tool where you can check the percent of posts of each user in each section and the how frequent the user is posting. No need to browse the whole history of the person to check if he posted outside of the Bounties.
Thanks to @TryNinja's tool the info is very informative and easy to access, here it is: https://ninjastic.space

448  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [warning] Vulnerability in all major Linux distros gives full root privileges. on: January 28, 2022, 07:16:25 AM
Of course the range of affected devices is much larger than only the cold storage wallet, but in my case I have only a cold storage with Linux disto so that's why I noted only that in the OP.
Now the OP it's updated and included some more info.

449  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Warning] Fake app of poocoin exists in google playstore.. on: January 27, 2022, 10:46:17 PM
It's just to report that, I made a group for reporting scam apps on Google play store but it's just too late to search for it now. I'll post it tomorrow.
Everyone is welcome to join the group reporting Smiley

Гледам че БГ форума е умрял(както винаги),та си мисля да го посъживя.
Има ли оцелели след сриването на крипто цените през последните няколко дни? Grin
Някой да се е паникьосал и да е продавал? Grin

451  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KYC and Beard, asking for a friend. on: January 27, 2022, 02:55:23 PM
Maybe a picture of the beard will gonna help us picture the  your friend situation.  Cheesy

I had a just a small Easter egg in OP post but I guess nobody noticed it yet, or at least didn't mentioned anything about it. When you find it you will get the picture of what my friend looks like Smiley

Also, I think that your friend should update his ID picture quickly because he may face problems at the airport or points where identity verification is more.

He is not much of a traveler abroad so this won't affect him much, he has his caravan wagon driving around the summer vacations. The weird thing is that your driving license here does not expire and you do not need to renew it, so not much of a pressure to change the documents and update pictures.. It's crazy.
452  Economy / Exchanges / Re: KYC and Beard, asking for a friend. on: January 27, 2022, 08:32:01 AM
An update, my buddy got finally approved and the beard is save.
As suggested here, he contacted the Binance support and after back and forth with questions and pictures he finally trough this hell. I don't know how long really took go do all that but I know it saw a lot of back and forth. As I understand they will improve their face recognition software or have an alternative way to do the KYC when the picture in the documents differs with the your current look in terms of facial hair.
I'm glad I didn't need go trough myself, there's facial hair allover my pics, lol.
453  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [warning] Vulnerability in all major Linux distros gives full root privileges. on: January 27, 2022, 08:11:35 AM
if you have a cold storage wallet with a Linux distro you could be affected.
Technically that shouldn't be an issue at all.
A cold storage by definition should not be accessible by anyone else remotely or physically, so there shouldn't be any way to use any kind of exploit on it.
Additionally you would use some sort of encryption on your cold storage, whether it is encryption provided by Linux itself (eg. encrypting home folder) or encrypting the wallet file itself (eg. encryption provided by Electrum). That means even gaining access to the data won't help the attacker.

I agree that with the cold wallets there are many walls to take down before getting to the honeypot, and most of the time it's impossible with the current available technology, but if you already have a massive door with advanced locker, why leaving it open?
454  Other / Beginners & Help / [warning] Vulnerability in all major Linux distros gives full root privileges. on: January 26, 2022, 09:49:38 PM
I know this is probably not the best place to post the thread, but if you have a cold storage wallet with a Linux distro you could be affected and only that, nodes, servers etc. Take precautions.

A vulnerability in Polkit's pkexec component identified as CVE-2021-4034 (PwnKit) is present in the default configuration of all major Linux distributions and can be exploited to gain full root privileges on the system, researchers warn today.

CVE-2021-4034 has been named PwnKit and its origin has been tracked to the initial commit of pkexec, more than 12 years ago, meaning that all Polkit versions are affected.

Part of the Polkit open-source application framework that negotiates the interaction between privileged and unprivileged processes, pkexec allows an authorized user to execute commands as another user, doubling as an alternative to sudo.

455  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: LastPass 1Password Security Crypto Challenge + Bounty on: January 26, 2022, 02:01:22 PM
Why keeping pass online at all? I would not keep any sensitive data online even in a vault.
Instead of those online services I prefer to use an open source and free software like KeePass.
It's the same master password weak spot as all those other managers out there but I would trust it more as it's offline.
Why would you choose to pay for an insecure online service at all?

458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Brute Forcing wallet.dat with BTCRecover need help on: January 23, 2022, 12:44:24 PM
just an idea, a simple cpp program (or other programming language) can generate a list of words with the needed criteria with prefix-suffix palindrome with a given length, if they are not too complicated and long palindromes, it could be possible to generate dictionary with the program.
Only down side will be to read from the dictionary file, probably will be slower.

460  Other / Meta / Re: Another "Legednary" newbie on: January 23, 2022, 11:55:43 AM
There are 16 such true legends (active in the last 30 days):
~
Edit: there are ~40 other users with 770+ activity, i.e. potential legendaries.

Wow, I arranged them only by posts in top 1000 mostposts on BPIP so I guess that's why I missed all the others. Quite often when browsing Patrol, I note some users with amazing amount of posts and 0 merit, but the weird thing is most of the time they are not in farms, I do check all the address, telegram, twitter, facebook links on the Ninjastic Space (tnx @TryNinja) and these accounts are "clean" (approx 85%).

Last time someone post this kind of statistic/information, someone give those member a merit. Let's see whether it'll happen this time.

My first thought was "let's see if there is any post merit worthy". First guy posted exclusively bounty reports and the second one has some posts in Offtopic and a "good project". Disappointing...  Lips sealed

I was thinking to reward them 1 merit.. because of the effort to be active all that time.. but I coudn't find any post to be able to give meirt to, Bounty reports will never get any merit from me..

OMG!
At first, I felt bad that Op's purpose of calling out these users has been misconstrued. I was so surprised that even as OP has called out these users, some generous merit sources like fillippone and LoyceV even commented on this thread and even merited some posts here, but have refused to send even 1 merit to any of the users. I was worried that I had to bookmark the users so that if I have smerit I will send to them.
But on a second thought I decided to see their posting histories, I was shocked to my marrows to see only links and no single post created. I have never seen this kind of thing before. No single worthy post to issue merit.

Just go to Patrol.. you'll see thousands of them every single day, and if you spot someone with 1 meirt... check the history... many times the merit giver is with red trust for account farming ... lol
