Economy / Exchanges / Re: coinbase to coinbase pro transfer question

Hello and happy new year to everyone!
I am new to the bitcoin/coinbase & coinbase pro world so this question should be pretty basic for many of you folks.
1.) I transferred bitcoin (max amount) from my coinbase over to coinbase pro this morning
2.) it shows the transfer was successful
3.) the problem is, my default portfolio in coinbase pro still shows a 0 balance and thus, I cannot trade or do anything. Why?
It has been several hours since I made the deposit.
Has anyone see this before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. Sincerely, fojomo
Hello and welcome to the forum. Normally it takes a couple of seconds up to a mintue for the transfer. I don't know in your case why is so big delay. Try to log out of Coinbase Pro and log in back again. Probably becase of the insane bitcoin bull run some of the services could be overloaded. Check the status here : https://status.coinbase.com/ It says Overloaded as I expected...

All the Electrum wallet files start with QklFMQN (I tested this on a differnt wallet files).
NOTE: Only fully encrypted wallet files start like this... wallet file with no password and wallet files that are "password-protected" but do not use the "Encrypt Wallet File" option just look like standard, plaintext JSON files. A "password protected" wallet file is created if this box is not checked during the setting of the wallet file password: Also, wallet encryption was only added in version 2.8.0 - March 2017 # Release 2.8.0 (March 9, 2017) * Wallet file encryption using ECIES: A keypair is derived from the wallet password. Once the wallet is decrypted, only the public key is retained in memory, in order to save the encrypted file.
NOTE: The password-protected, but not fully encrypted files, still have the private keys and seeds etc stored as encrypted text withiin the plaintext wallet file. That's a good point, I actually never created unencrypted wallet, and it should be a common sense te encrypt and protect your funds with a password. So my previouse suggestion is not an option here if the encryption of the wallet was introduced in 2017 no point to search for it.

^ OK, I will add you to the list tomorrow. I wasn't very active the past few months but now I'm back in full power so being a source will be a good think. I do have some sources on a speed dial but I'm tired bothering others... I've been in the top 25 merit receivers for quite some time and even during those few months I was away I didn't drop down from my position, so I can say I know how to earn/spread merit. I've sent over 1000 already. I want to resurect my local section too. Stay safe ppl.

Let me give you another idea. Maybe you will find some unknown files with no name or some gibberish for name which can also be a wallet files. What you need to do is to sort out all the files and open each on of them to check their source code. It's simple, you drag the file directly in Notepad and if the source of the file begins with those charachters > then you might be lucky. All the Electrum wallet files start with QklFMQN (I tested this on a differnt wallet files). This will be your only clue to find out if you still have the wallet file or not. Check all the .txt files and pictures for the seed. It's a 12 word seed. Good luck in recovering those coins.

What I have witness during such procedures on a windows computers is that the file names are often corrupted but the files are fine, so looking for something like *wal* could also be a good chance to find something like, wal~ or _wal or ~wal_ I've seen a lot of variations. Some examples to try. *wal* *let*

I'm not that of an expert but you have to open the backup file with text editor and check the initial symbols, they are the salted info you can use to find out what type of encryption was used on the file. I guess the file starts with U2FsdGVkX1 and it is openssl type. I saw some YouTube videos about bitcoin wallets exacting the private keys some time ago and they were using opnessl for that. John has the openssl2john.py and voila.
I think I'm wrong here. There is no password hash stored in the file. SOrry for missleading you...
EDIT and UPDATE: btcrecover can do that.. I'll write a guide how to do it.

What software you are using to recover the files from that hdd? Some free recovery software let you see only documents, pictures and videos. Those won't help you in that quest. The first thing is to find something reliable to recover the data with. I've been using EaseUS alot before with great results, it costs a bit but if you have a chance to recover the lost coins it should be quite good deal. As LoyceV said, better focus on finding the seed, think about where you could have store it.
People back in the day were ignoring the security warnings and were saving seed in .txt files or picutres so try to remember, you have a higher chance to find it I think than the file on a hdd.

Looks like theymos thinks that the current merit source situation is fine. No new sources were added since I open my application exactly 1 year ago. Don't see any upcoming changes either. I wasn't that active the past couple of months but now I'm back and hoping to get an answer to the merit source question soon.
I would think that sooner or later, theymos would feel some kind of need to make some adjustments, whether those adjustments would be of the kind and nature that some of us would prefer might be another story.. but still On the other hand, if he consideres the merit system to be working sufficiently well, as is, then why tweak a system that is already working.. Many of us likely agree with the thesis of adding more merit sources, but since I don't really know of any places in which theymos has posted about the topic in recent times, it is difficult guess with any kind of concreteness might be some of his current concerns, if any. Looking at the crypto markted and the alt season I thoght that there will be bigger interest for the forum and more new members will join, most of them will be for bounties and spam but somewhere in between there will be a good, valuable ones too. Looking back at 2017 I think we are seeing even greater times now so for sure more people will join for good or for bad (I hate scammers).

I thought that after the news that came about the FinCEN announcements regarding more and more crypto regulations and the actions taken by the exchanges to follow those regulation there will be a bit of negative influence over the price of bitcoin and FUD because nobody wants to have crypto regulated and under government's control.

Since you mentioned bounty reports I remember what happened a few months ago. I reported an empty or "reserved" post which I found on the patrol page and when it was handled was marked as bad, later found out that the guy actually changed his post into an actual report. I think I have like 3-4 bad reports just because of that.
