Well, there's certainly plenty of fiat on Huobi now.

yes lets hope they can get it out. Might be tricky without a bank account - and I won't be sending any coins there to get stuck with worthless Huobi Yuan.

Whatever,  bored now

According to reports, PBOC requires commercial banks and third-party payment agencies to convey to the public that it no longer provides financial services to any Bitcoin transaction before May 10th "Bitcoin Beijing International Summit".

The deadline is real guys

the problem is you see that I have now seen this statement so many times it has cause me to now enter the realm of "bothered" - as in not bothered for those not familiar with the works of Catherine Tate or generic British colloquialisms

A currency that wasn't supposed to exist, get banned by World Financial Institutions? Oh wow...

Its not a currency Smiley - according to said financial institutions.  How do you ban code?
585  Economy / Speculation / Re: PLEASE STOP BEING SO AFRAID! on: April 25, 2014, 01:28:24 PM
Why may I ask do you believe there is 2 more weeks until the price has seen a bottom?   Huh

Its Butterfly Labs syndrome - there is always two more weeks.
586  Economy / Speculation / Re: PLEASE STOP BEING SO AFRAID! on: April 25, 2014, 01:27:44 PM
Considering they're the only reason we crossed $200 to begin with and we follow their every move... ya, we should be scared.

The previous high of ~$250 was long before the China Bubble.
Also, the BTC economy is growing so fast we don't need China.
Can you prove that? My recollection is they entered around $175, but I may be wrong. Also, while I agree the economy has grown, it doesn't account for a growth into the $400s (disclaimer: opinion, please don't flame me).

The April 2013 price spike saw prices into the $260 area.  This was the previous bubble top.
587  Economy / Speculation / Re: [CAIXIN] CENTRAL BANK BANS ALL BTC FIAT CHANNELS (DEADLINE MAY 10) on: April 25, 2014, 09:32:16 AM
Amazing how news like this can break just as Huobi looks to break out of the channel to the upside.
Not that Caixin have a source with a position or anything but.
588  Economy / Speculation / Re: 200k Gox Coins in the Pipeline on: April 24, 2014, 02:58:36 PM
a bitcoin or cash deposit is a company liability not a company asset

this is the grey area bit - it depends upon how Japanese law has defined bitcoin, and whether the customer accounts are treated as money or not - MT GOX is not a depositing taking institution, it could be argued that customers had lent their bitcoin and their USD as well to GOX - thus making them general creditors, and also whether those 200K bitcoin are part of the customer balance or part of MTGOX own BTC balance.

Usually, liquidation will pay out as follows:

1. ALL, and I mean ALL, Court costs. (this will be a fortune!)

2. Employees (good faith, not Mark K. because he's going to jail!)

3. General creditors (i.e. banks)

4. Customers, users (who will get zero!)

Hope this answers your question.

don't forget Taxes- jap govt gets its share first

If someone with 5000+ coins wanted to make some quick money, they could dump their bitcoins anytime (not all at one time of course) over the next 24 hours and break us out of the triangle to the downside and people would join the bear party. Similarly someone could do it to the upside too, but, in this case I think there are more people with the bitcoins who could do this than with the cash to do the opposite.

Actually there are a lot more people globally with say USD 3,500,000 than there are with BTC 5,000. Its just a question of how many of them want 5000 coins, and how many people with 5000 coins want circa $2.3mm

591  Economy / Speculation / Re: Final Warning for Long-term holders... on: April 21, 2014, 09:37:37 AM
I have a law degree/MBA (that makes me a lawyer) and I am a partner in an investment banking firm. How does being one preclude being the other? I know many investment bankers who have law degrees. Not uncommon! Something smells worse about you.

Forgive my presumption, however, your sentence construction, use of grammar, inability to use paragraphs, and inability to multitask (or be authoritative with your daughter) do not lend credence to your assertion that you are a partner in an investment bank or a lawyer.
Lawyers are generally coherent, well rationalized and efficient with their prose, you are none of these things.
You should also be aware that all the major wall street players gave up on partnerships some years ago. Goldman Sachs still has "partners" but this is simply a title- GS is now a publicly traded company just like Morgan Stanley or BOAML.

Why should 470 hold?

Because the market seems to want to go up. It's just being stopped by Chinese FUD every time.

1 bank after the other getting closed and you call that FUD?  Huh

I call it immaterial to the long term success of bitcoin - frankly I don't give a rats armpit or a monkey's backside about the Chinese government, nor do I care what the price might do over the next six months.
EDIT - and no I'm not just a HODLER but I am involved in companies that are trying to build bitcoin based services.

So everyone moans and says we've gone up to fast and then moans when it corrects?

+1 pretty much how it works yes
594  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 16, 2014, 01:08:23 PM
Most of the articles are things we already know about.

April 10 - "Bitcoin is not banned in China" - We already knew that.

April 16 - "Huobi's bank account being closed" - We knew that too.

Yet somehow people's sentiments change every time because they were operating under some flawed logic.

people here use logic?
595  Economy / Speculation / Re: $600 by end of today? on: April 16, 2014, 09:49:41 AM
Seems like we're going fast downwards again. Someone cashing out ?

another round of China news - someone needs low prices.

be lucky if we are still at 500 at the end of today.
596  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 16, 2014, 08:58:03 AM

my completely fake attempt at a translation

"I the author of this piece am short bitcoin and really need it to down"
597  Economy / Economics / Re: Facebook Bank on: April 15, 2014, 03:29:18 PM
Coindesk is talking about it now too:

http://www.coindesk.com/facebooks-mobile-money-plans-may-mean-bitcoin/

As far as I can tell no one sees direct competition to bitcoin, but it will be a good long-term test of centralized systems versus decentralized systems for online currencies.

Still not many details yet.

you don't think they just maybe expand their existing system

this is bitcoin competition , not adoption , sorry
598  Economy / Speculation / Re: On April 15, Bitcoin will go to the moon. on: April 15, 2014, 12:07:57 PM
I think given Tera's emphasis on BLOOD moon, that the prediction was for a collapse rather than a rise. Still given that it can be interpreted either way I am sure Tera will claim that it was correctly predicted.

599  Economy / Speculation / Re: High buyers @700,800,900,1000,1200, what will you do with your coins? on: April 15, 2014, 10:27:39 AM
What is this short term view - money is in BTC with a 2 - 3yr view.
600  Economy / Speculation / Re: $600 by end of today? on: April 15, 2014, 09:39:20 AM
no - and you shouldn't want it to be. If you want a sustainable price rise in bitcoin hope for small slow steps with reasonable consolidation between each move upwards.
