1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S9 PSU in USA dilemma on: December 14, 2017, 11:11:08 PM

Don't sweat the 1950W -vs- the 2250W of three 750W power supplies. The 750W (or 1200W) indicates it's ability to supply that much power, not that it actually consumes that much power. The  actual power consumption is driven by the S9 itself. You just need to make sure the actual is less than the ability of the supplies to deliver power. The setup from parallelminer looks quite reasonable. The 1200W supply they include would power 2 of the 3 hash boards, and the 750W supply would power the 3rd hash board and controller/fan card. As I read it, the PCIe cables are sturdy enough. I don't have any actual experience with their kit, but looks pretty well thought out for a setup for a single S9 at home with 120V power. The sequence would be start the 1200W supply first (with 2 hash boards), and then the 750W supply (with 1 hash board and controller). The 1200W supply will likely run hotter since it's handling more load than the 750W supply.

Are you comfortable with the noise and the heat produced by an S9 in your space? Think a 1400W blow dryer running at full  blast, 24 hours per day. Other folks liken the noise to a vacuum cleaner.

Thank you for your response.
It does clear up an issue I was wondering about. -Do you add the S9 and the PSU W to get a total (S9 1323w + PSU 1950w = 3273w). But from what I get from your post it's not something to be worried about.

RE: noise/heat. I rent the basement of my building to use as an art studio. That's where the S9 is going to live. I'm building a noise muffling air circulating hut for the S9.
I've actually contemplated running a 5" tube from the hut, out the window, up the building and into my window to heat my apt! I'm on the 1st floor so it's not totally insane. Just a little.

For that price, buy 3 at 750W each and run like that.  Power a board each, with one running the controller/fans which is peanuts compared to the boards.
I run multiple, cheaper PSUs on my miner here at home.  Think RAID, but for PSUs!
Mine On!  Cool

This is a suitable psu for VRobb's advice https://www.parallelminer.com/product/hp-gold-rated-750-watt-110-240v-power-supply-kit-for-asic-miner/

Three pieces of these HP 750W power supplies with 4x pci-e power cables per psu.

Be sure that you don't mix psus together in same hash board, they start to "fight" each other.

Use one psu for one hash board. Turn on this psu first.
Use one psu for one hash board. Then turn on this psu.
Use one psu for one hash board and controller. Turn on this psu last.

Ok, I emailed Parallel Miner to ask a question about the HP 750W w/ S9.
When they replied they suggested using:
REV6 BOARD 1950WATT 110V/240V 80+ GOLD POWER SUPPLY https://www.parallelminer.com/product/antminer-s9-power-supply-80plus/
With 2 PCU C13 cords: https://www.parallelminer.com/product/6feet-14awg-15amps-ul-heavy-duty-power-supply-cord-5-15p-to-c13/

To me the REV6 seems to be basically (to use an old Thailand expression) "same same but different" as 3 HP 750Ws.

Granted, I don't know how Watt math adds up but if 3x HP 750W = 2250W, the 1950WATT REV6 BOARD shaves off 300w from the deal and in BTC mining W=$.
The REV6 is $129 (on sale), -1  $7 PCU C13 cord, it comes in $55 cheaper.

Thoughts?
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ☠☠☠ Will High Transaction Fees Be The Downfall Of Bitcoin? ☠☠☠ on: December 13, 2017, 07:47:14 AM
Transaction fees are increasing because of the surge in bitcoin. It's already expected, plus, the it is more difficult now to mine bitcoin than before. However, most of the transaction fees also depends on what trading platform you use. As of the moment, I a using coinut because of its low transaction fees. Last time I transact, I paid a fee of 0.0001 which is quite low compared to other trading platforms and bitcoin market.

Re: Platform. I've been wondering about that. I have a wallet on blockchain.info and usually spend about $2 ($4.00 if I want it sent "express") in fees for transactions less than $200.
I recently opened an account on Coinbase and it cost me $15.60 to send $200 worth of BTC, and several hours later it still has not processed.

Is it a difficulty factor or is Coinable ripping me off?

At this rate it's really not worth it to use BTC for casual day to day use.

@HagssFIN @VRobb Thank you! That is a perfect solution. I hope in the future I can pay it forward and help out a newbie trying to figure this all out.
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / S9 PSU in USA dilemma on: December 12, 2017, 01:35:00 AM
So.
I've been reading and researching as much as I can about mining with the S9.
I'm based in NYC, USA and the issue that is causing me confusion is how to power the unit.

I've read a lot of contradictory posts about converting to 120v so now my brain is spinning.

My plan is to use the EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 G2 80+ (or possibly other step down units) and plug into the wall on a circuit that is not shared by any appliances.

Some of what I read is people stating that if you convert you can't get the necessary power, but I see a lot of youtube videos with people
using that unit.

Since I rent my space hiring an electrician to run a 220v line is problematic.

I guess what I'm asking is are there other USA based "hobby" miners using converter units here, and what is your experience and thoughts on the matter.

Thank you in advance.
6  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [HOSTING] High Cacacity & Density Bitcoin ASIC Hosting (As low as $65.00 per KW) on: December 06, 2017, 10:06:42 PM
I was on the google looking for hosting companies where I found bitcoinasichosting.com, checked out their website and it looked promising.
Next I googled bitcoinasichosting.com reviews and the 1st thing that came up was Bitcointalk.

I called them but just got a VM saying the best way to contact them was thru the website.
The website's "archives" have not been updated since January 2015.

I think we may have a ghost ship here.

I also planning to get a mining equipment however I heard a lot of mixed reaction from my friends. Online also keep saying that mining is not profitable unless you have super cheap electricity fees which apparently not in my country.

In my experience when trying new ventures that are not well understood friends and family always say it's a bad idea.

The electricity is a real problem.
Have you tried Bitcoin profit calculators? They were very helpful for me.
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Just bought my 1st miner. on: December 02, 2017, 02:48:42 AM
About 4 weeks ago I had a random thought.
"I wonder how bitcoin mining is done?"
That random thought took me on a crazy path. I quickly began to realize "I could do that. Can I do that?"
I've read, researched, learned about BCH, set up a and wired $ to a bitcoin account.
I learned how convert BTC to BCH.
I joined this group!
So much more.

Welp. I just ordered/paid for a S9. I was going to get 2 but realize that with all the currency fees I didn't have enough $/BTC so I
just got 1.
Maybe another next week.
Maybe the WHATSMINER M3.

PS, I didn't buy the Antminer S9 PSU. As I'm in the USA I'm going to have trouble with the stock PSU.
So, next thing to figure out.
What to do about power.

Anyway, what a trip!

Oh wait...
I think I figured out Changelly...

Sorry for the freak out.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie! How/where to buy Bitcoin Cash? on: December 01, 2017, 08:37:25 AM
Ok, this is seriously starting to make me nuts!

I just can't figure out how to acquire BCH.
Look, I'm not a genius but I'm also not an idiot.

I've been over hundreds of cryptocurrency websites over the last few days.
I contacted Bitmain and asked where to get BCH. They were no help.
I've checked out Changelly and it seems like they want to just give me script to put on my website.

Aggggggghhhgghgh!!!

Lots of people here have gear from Bitmain. So some of you must have paid with BCH.
How, for the love of god, did you get the BCH?!?
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do home internet providers throttle bandwidth for miners? on: November 29, 2017, 06:36:29 AM
Ever since the invention of stratum mining, bandwidth hasn't been a real concern with mining.  Running 2 S9 miners is definitely not something you'd be throttled for.

Thank you. It was a big "uh oh, what if I go thru all this then Verizon shuts me down?" moment for me.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Do home internet providers throttle bandwidth for miners? on: November 29, 2017, 12:59:11 AM
I'm preparing to set up 2 S9's in my basement/work studio.
I recall hearing that internet providers often choke the service of people using a lot of bandwidth.

Have you heard of "hobbyist" miners getting flagged as running servers or otherwise having their internet being interfered with by local ISPs?
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie! How/where to buy Bitcoin Cash? on: November 28, 2017, 09:10:13 PM
Ok.
The Shapeshift site won't open for me. It says it's not available in my region.
Changelly works.

Lets see if I have this path correct.

Xfer $$ from bank to Coinbase and buy Bitcoin.
Go Changelly, enter my BTC wallet, xfer BTC to BCH and enter Bitmain wallet address to send Bitmain.

Is that how its done?
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie! How/where to buy Bitcoin Cash? on: November 28, 2017, 01:07:04 PM
Howdy,
New here.
Spent days soaking all this bitcointalk up. I gotta admit I'm fascinated by it, staying up till dawn reading all I can.

So I want to take the plunge and buy the S9.
But Bitmain only takes Bitcoin Cash?

I've hit a roadblock. I actually have wallets with 2 sites and can't figure out how to acquire BCH from either one!
Google provided some sketchy sites...
What am I missing here?

So. How/where to get BCH?

Please and thank you!
Which sites ? Can you name them so we can help you.

Fastest way to buy Bitcoin Cash is to use Shapeshift or Changelly you'll choose which coin you want to trade and how much you want then they'll ask your bitcoin cash address after that you'll be asked to send the coins to their address once that transaction confirms you should receive your bitcoin cash to your wallet.

Thanks for getting back to me.
My wallets are on Blockchain.info and Coinbase.

It seems that Coinbase isn't even dealing with BCH until Jan '18.
Blockchain explains how to use Shapeshift to convert BCH to BTC, but (I think) it explains that you can't Shapeshift BTC->BCH or buy BCH on their site.

Google took me to a spammy message board where someone said use "Kraken", another site that just had a place holder on the landing page.

I've read dozens of sights without being able to find a clear answer.
