1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: September 18, 2013, 04:26:38 PM
I put the boards back in stock in case anyone wants still needs some.

Batch 2 is completely done and is currently being shipped.
Big orders take a bit longer because i have to put them through customs.
The maximum batch 2 delivery has been delayed by the Bitfury development is 3 days.

Transfers of whole orders are possible.

How do we go about transferring an order? (I am a buyer)
I emailed you a screen shot of the receipt w/ order# but before transferring money to the seller, I'd like to know if it is a valid order and approved by you.

Can the selling just log into Cryptx and put in a new name and address, transfer the password to the buyer or ? (Want to make sure it gets shipped to the buyer! ;-)

Thanks, good to see you back!

IAS

I did it by requesting a transfer of the orders by email to store@asic-chips.com. To prove that the orders are yours you could use the signing function of bitcoin.

You cannot change name/address at http://www.asic-hardware.com.

Did anyone made the joke about 'swedish' asic miners comes in parts and you have to build them yourself because it is 'cheaper' that way?

Yes there where jokes about that  Grin

There are people dreaming about that.

I don't get it.

As far as I understood him correctly ... bitfury boards are only available to distributors.

Based on burnins clarification we´ve modified our offer:

Seven "Complete BitBurner XX Modules with attached heat-sink" for sale

We´ve placed two orders with very low (!  Smiley) order numbers at http://www.burninmining.com. As we´ve already requested refund from zefir for the avalon chips we intend to sell these orders to people who have avalon chips but haven´t placed a order for a bitburner yet.

order #324:
- 5 x Complete BitBurner Module with attached heat-sink (20 chips per board)
- 2 x CAN-BUS Stacking cable
- standard shipping

price: €572.51 (85% of the original price at burninmining.com: €673.54)

order #339
- 2 x Complete BitBurner Module with attached heat-sink (20 chips per board)
- standard shipping

price €237.70 (85% of the original price at burninmining.com: €279.65)

Whoever is interested may send my a pn.

Why 85%?
burnin offers 70% refund. Original price is 100%. 85% leaves 15% benefit for us and for you.

EDIT:
SOLD

Funny, people trying to sell their bitburner order at 100% Smiley

If they don't sell it, they get 50%
Why not just settle for selling it at 60% or 70% to increase chances?

Ah well, economics, meh

burnin refunds 50% now and 20% in 2-4 weeks. Thus, altogether 70%.

If nobody offered already paid bitburners to people who have chips but no order these people were screwed and the price would even go beyond 100%.

tl;dr 100% is a fair price

This offer is only valid under the condition that burnin allows a transfer of his orders.

I'll take the second one (2X20) if Burnin allows it, but don't you need the stacking cable? Will wait for confirmation from Burnin though.
Also, todays price is 267.75 with heatsinks, stacking cable, standard shipping & VAT. Did prices change?
IAS

The "€279.65" for order #339 is exactly what we paid:
- 2 x boards = € 249,90
- shipping: € 29.75 (incl. VAT) via Standard

sum: €279.65 (Includes €44.65 VAT)

Did not notice any price changes, but cannot fully exclude it.

The CAN cable may a) either be added to this order (if burnin agrees) or b) may be bought somewhere else (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=179769.msg2807146#msg2807146).

10  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Poll] Burnins BitFury miner on: August 30, 2013, 09:32:00 AM
I´m interested in BitFury boards and I have BitBurners on order.

The order of manufacturing with the Bitburners was:
1) batch number
2) order number (to determine the order within a batch)

@burnin:
There won´t be any batches with the BitFury boards. How do you determine the order?

I´d suggest that those who´ve already paid for Bitburners and switch over to BitFury boards keep their order numbers.
I think if you convert an existing order to a bitfury-order, it seems fair to keep the order number. However, the group buy or batch number of the avalon chips should not play a role since the avalon chips are never going to be used. So - I'm not sure if this is what you meant - I'd suggest to keep the order number only.

Yes, that´s exactly what I meant.

Here´s the news:
http://www.avalon-asics.com

----------------------------page 1 ---------------
It all begin a few weeks ago when we received an email attached with a PDF containing the person information of some Avalon team members in China. Extortion, a familiar tactic when it comes to the Bitcoin scene and business in China. Threatened to release this information public if we do not pay up; we choose to ignore the demands because the information is quite outdated and some even are inaccurate, making this a low threat.

Everything changed when people started to knock on some team members parent's house looking for them using the information found on the PDF or other sources. This called for a immediate reevaluation of operational security of the Avalon project. This is the main source of delays and lack of communication in the past few weeks. This matter is still on going, but a majority of the Avalon operation has once again been resumed.

Just as this matter is reaching its closure. WSJ prints an mashed article consists of rumors, opinions and pieces of various stories. Avalon whilst under NDA(s) are unable to comment on all aspect of the story. We will however state the following: We were indeed in Amsterdam on Tuesday and had a meeting with TSMC and we will leave it at that for now.

We would also like to take this chance to properly restate that Avalon will from this day going forward will no longer be participating in any form of pre-order, pre-sale type of business operations.
------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------page 2 ------------------
Unit Batches

Batch three have completely left our hands, may DHL be swift in their deliveries. The refunds will shortly follow, this is the same for any tradein orders ( ran into issues such as some people were receiving their address to pay while other are not). we understand we are very late in this department of processing any customer support related issue, we will not be making any excuses, but this is literally the only thing left on our plate now. In the future we hope to eliminate this problem by selling only in stock products that will ship in under 3 days.

On the horizon are two new product designs, we are fairly happy with the batch 3 design, which will conclude as the Avalon Version 1 final design. In addition we will have a new 2 module unit coming to market and a 2U 17inch deep server blade slated as Avalon Version 2.
Chips

While we have send out some chip orders, there is currently ~200k chips stuck in custom right at this moment for about 2 weeks now, this matter is very painful for us and our customers. As majority of the chip orders ( 70% ) totaling ~800k is made between early and mid-may resulting in a tight time frame to work with. We do have more chips coming in via different route next week which will ease this a little bit. (you can take this as chips will resume shipping by end of next week for now.)

We will take this time to fulfill a promise to announce the next generation chip 2 month ahead of schedule so potential buyers can make a decision. Soon we will be disabling the pre-order of Avalon Gen1 chips and only sell the remaining stock as we phase out old technology for a new 55nm, which goes on sale for immediate delivery at mid October 2013. This 55nm will retain the same physical dimension as the 110nm Gen1, only few pads were changed so getting them up and running requires very little change to existing design.

In addition, there is 2 more chip designs in the pipeline, we have decided to proceed developing Gen3 and Gen4 in parallel due to the long R&D time of low processor nodes, both of these will be a Full Custom ASIC design.
----------------------------------------------------------------

tl;dr chips are expected to be delivered "in two weeks"

The amount of coins mined is independent of the number of miners/total hashing power.

Okay, since I have enough of this no ROI crap, here is a little hint:

even at 700.000.000 difficulty you have an ROI. Granted, if you buy an asic at that point it takes 1 year and a half, but ROI is still possible.

If the cost of electricity(*) exceeds the value of the mined BTCs you´ll never have ROI.

(*) There is no such thing as free lunch/electricity

smartass. the calculation was made with 0,31 usd/kwh. That is German standard and most countries will be lower than that.

And, just for the fun of it: with 0,15 usd/kwh which would be an US standard you get your ROI after 1 year.

The difficulty rises constantly while mining ... after X days mining won´t be profitable anymore. If X < 1 1/2 years you dont have ROI.

Let´s get back to the topic.

"free electricity" means IMO "stealing electricity"

Instead of stealing electricity to maximize mining profit to be able to afford a nice car, I´d recommend just to steal a nice car(*). Thats more straightforward.

(*) stealing is illegal, don´t do it

BFL - very slow shipping - no worries - obsolete soon
Avalon chips - pfff nothing - obsolete after KNC will start shipping
Avalon batch 3 - no shipping, if yes only 36TH/s - means nothing
Bitfuty - few TH/s means nothing
ASICminer - obsolete soon

I agree with you that less efficient Gen 1 asics such as Avalon or BFL will become obsolete... but they wont until diff rises quite a bit past that 150-200mil.
Until then the millions of Avalon chips will make a significant difference. And BFL might (I doubt it) speed up production.

Bitfury -few TH/s?
I disagree. Poject "100TH" will (eventually) deploy 75TH in August and 25TH later on, metabank will (eventually) deploy around 50TH until October, Bitfurystrikesback/Megabigpower will (eventually) deploy several hundred TH until the end of the year (if shipment begins in August).

Its my opinion, i dont think that 100TH/s is big amount. 1000x jupiter will be 400TH/s thats quite big. But im counting with higher BTC/EUR. So even with diff 300mil(global network 2000TH/s !!!!) its still good, 2000eur/month if BTC/EUR=100 with 1x Jupiter.

If you expect higher BTC/EUR just buy BTC now!

You need to ask burnin, I am just quoting him: "Any order that is correct will stay in the system. "
