A lot of things in history have come about because of illegal activities.  NASCAR is one I can think of.

Also I just bought this lol.  For $265 on ebay so I will want to run it for a bit.  My goal would be to mine enough to buy an S7 but that could take a while if ever.

maybe try relisting, maybe the person you beat in the auction will buy. see if you can get yourself 2 s5's would be more power efficient, which would allow greater profit thus a faster s7. im sure there are plenty on here people are selling.

Considering I would also have to buy a power supply for the S5s it would put the cost of ownership much higher than the s4 I bought.

Two S5 hashing power = 2300GHs.  Only 300 more than my S4, not bad though.
Two S5 power draw = 1180 watts.  Vs 1400 for the S4.  A bit better power efficiency.

Cost to purchase two s5 units without power supplies = $160 per unit on ebay.  So total of $320.  Thats $60 over what I paid for the S4.
Cost to purchase two s5 units WITH power supplies = About $200 per unit.  So about $135 over the S4.

Im too lazy to do all the math for the profit difference but I doubt its a large enough gap.  Electricity will kill me though, but luckily I live in an area where I get .08kwh

alright just getting back into things with a antminer s4.  I used to mine on slush but from what ive noticed slush is not really decent anymore.  Doing some reading up and kano seems like a dude I can support and in turn receive support.  So im joining the pool, only question is should I set my difficulty to 2048?  Is that still applicable with the latest s4 firmware?
The simple answer is, unless there's a problem with your firmware, there's no need to set the work diff on the web site.
Setting it on the web site will only take effect if you set it above the pool's calculated value.

If there is a problem with the firmware then avoid using a power of 2 like 2048 - instead use a little higher e.g. 2052

As usual, remember that the work difficulty has no effect on your reward other than variance.
Higher diff means higher variance, but not much of an effect unless you make it a lot high e.g. if you set it 10x higher.

Appreciate the answer, and I am letting the server decide then.  As far as I am aware I dont think there is an issue with the s4 firmware other than not being great, like it freaking out when I set it to a static IP.  And it changing IPs every few minitues on DHCP.  And running 4.8.0 miner.

Not sure what kind of router you have but some routers allow you to assign a specific DHCP address to a device.  That way your S4s stay on DHCP and each time they request a new IP, the router sends the same one they had last time.  My Cisco/Linksys E3000 can do this and it works great.

Well I bridged a wireless linksys router with ddwrt on it, to my time warner wireless router.  And the antminer s4 is connected to the linksys router.  The time warner router is acting as the gateway and controlling/issuing IPs.  Ive try to set it to a static IP or reserved IP but its not taking.

10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin becoming the one world currency for the New World Order? on: July 25, 2013, 03:50:39 PM
I would like to point out that gold is also a one-world currency, currently accepted in more locations worldwide that bitcoin.  But that doesn't mean that gold is going to be the NWO's preferred one-world currency.  Like others have stated, their currency will be a fiat money that they control and issue from their world central bank.

Ok I just want to point out I dont believe in the NWO crap however ...

Say there is a group that is smart enough, powerful enough, and influential enough to do the things people claim they do.  Are you telling me they are not smart enough to to be able to create a digital currency that everyone would use?  And not only that, but make you believe it was your idea in the first place, and that its completely safe from such control.  Because if it were me, average joe, that's exactly what I would do.  And im not any of those things listed above.

If such a group of people existed, they would be smart enough to realize a single fiat currency isnt a sustainable option if everyone is against it in the first place.  Much less whole nations that cant even get fiat right.  What already more interconnected internationally than the internet and P2P?

12  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BIG difficulty jump coming on: July 25, 2013, 10:33:17 AM
And if no one do not buy new hardware, nobody wants bitcoins and bitcoins price reduce. Now everyone usually buy bitcoins for new hardware. More hardware you have more difficulty you increase and you have buy more and more hardware. But if everyone stop buy new hardware where to put bitcoins? bitcoin price will 0 $ ;/

Um no.  Bitcoin is more than mining.

Lets be honest here, no its not.  Not really. Probably 95% of people who back bitcoin and scream viva la revolution do so as they mine, in hopes of getting rich.  I mean dont get me wrong the whole concept is pretty neat and all, but its not likely to ever get too big, because if it does you can bet uncle sam will lay the smack down.

Not true at all.

The vast majority of people are simply buying bitcoins on exchanges, not mining them!

Bitcoin mining is only a tiny part of what bitcoin is all about. And it's becoming smaller and smaller.

While true, there wouldn't be any coins to buy/sell without mining.  And yes I understand in the future mining will be almost irrelevant after a certain point.
13  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Question on theory ... on: July 25, 2013, 10:25:00 AM

15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin becoming the one world currency for the New World Order? on: July 24, 2013, 05:48:14 PM
Question of the Day:
Is Bitcoin becoming the one world currency for the New World Order?

Note: The New World Order is the devil worshipers cult Illuminati (also known as the Bilderberg Group)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bilderberg_participants

Good to know I wasnt the only one who had this thought recently LOL.  Im not a CTer however I had this passing thought what better way to get people to do something you want, other than making them believe it was their idea.

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We will find out if the "No press is bad press" saying is true with latest news on: July 24, 2013, 04:33:01 PM
There is no one answer to this.  Some will become interested and lookup bitcoins and learn for themselves.  Some will automatically assume all btc is a scam.  Some will ect. ect.

Overall its a good thing.  Regardless more people will become interested.
18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining bitcoin with 1st gen hw doesnt seem to make sense at all by next year on: July 24, 2013, 11:00:49 AM
Yep I didnt want to admit to it either.  The difficulty rate, even if it only jumps to 80mil by the end of the year, will make the usb miners worthless.  You will NEVER even see a break even point.  Oh well ive got two nifty turds I will let run till they no longer produce anything.
19  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why is everyone trying to sell the USB Asic K1 Miner??? on: July 24, 2013, 10:49:54 AM
Not speaking brand specific here because I bought the USB Eruptor miner however I had to come to terms with myself and the fact OP is right, it wont be profitable at all for the money spent.  Even if the price dropped to .89 btc or whatever the group buy price is.  The difficulty alone is what will kill the miners ability to mine anything.

Wont matter how high the price of btc goes.
20  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Big Bux and Scare Tactics: The Inside Joke about BFL on: July 24, 2013, 10:35:02 AM
My crystal ball tells me BFL is pretty much out of all the pre-order money.  Now either they will prove if they are legit, and get a loan or do whatever they have to do, or they are going to cut and run.  Thus half of the people who think they are going to get a miner, wont.

Seems like it would be hard to run out of money when you're sitting on a huge pile of money generating machines.

I should say run out of "money were using to actually produce hardware" not "money were secretly stashing away when we cut and run".
