Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ryder One - Worst Hardware wallet ever?

$300 to $500 will also be too expensive when there are better hardware wallets with the features and specifications that I like at $200.
I came up with this numbers ($300 to $500) because they are currently offering $90 discount so price cant possible be $100 or $200. They can even go nuts and put some crazy price because they use premium materials and different concept. Maybe this is going to be most expensive hardware wallet in the world. I don't think this would be the worst hardware wallet based on its appearance it looks the same as a smartwatch I checked their website and they mention IP68 which is the model name of a smartwatch.
When did I ever say any hardware wallet is good just because it looks prety? This is not a beauty content. One day, Zach Herbert, founder of Foundationdevices, said : "I believe Bitkey is fundamentally flawed, provides terrible privacy and security, and should not come to market". I think the same can be applied to Ryder One. I think that Ryder is worse than Bitkey aka Block aka Square wallet.

Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Ryder One - Worst Hardware wallet ever?
|
on: October 23, 2023, 09:54:21 PM

I don't know if anyone heard about this, but there is one company who wants to eliminate seed phrases from hardware wallets, because they don't like them, so they created Ryder One device. I wouldn't even call this a real hardware wallet, but Ryder One will be used for Bitcoin and they have secure element Infineon SLE78, so it fits hardware wallet category. Ryder one has No seed phrases, No physical buttons, No ports, No Bluetooth, No Wi-Fi, and they claim this device is 100% tamper-proof. Communication is done using NFC connection with Ryder Mobile App installed on smartphone. Now comes the weird part. Since they don't use seed phrases, they decided to include people social circle by adding trusted friends and family in recovery process, but assets remain inaccessible to them. They are using Recovery Tags with their mobile app for creating backup, but that means you can't use this for any other hardware wallets. I don't know about source code but I suspect it is closed source, so this is even worse than Jack Dorsey Block aka Square wallet or whatever new name they use. Ryder One will be using Shamir Secret Sharing, and we talked many times before that this is inferior compared to Multisig setup and has single point of failure. https://www.ryder.id/What is the price going to be for this device we don't know yet, but let me give my prediction for something between $300 and $500.

apparently customer data has been leaked at Blockstream! numerous users of the Jade hardware wallet have received the fake email shown below, which looks deceptively real at first glance. Adam Back has already confirmed that it is a scam. if you have received this type of email, please delete it immediately and do not click on any link.
I saw this but it doesn't have to be database leak, and this was not confirmed. From what I heard random people received this phishing email even if they never purchased Jade hardware wallet or signed up for any other Blockstream services. It is possible this people used their email for some stupid airdrops or they signed up for other crypto newsletters or they purchased some other brand of hardware wallets like ledger aka leaker.

I wanted to check upon your experiences with these two devices. I already ordered the Onekey Classic so i guess will use that for a while. But was more interested on your thoughts about these, will use them for BTC and to crosschain swap between BTC and USDT on different times, instead on dealing with CEX's.
OneKey is biggest hardware wallet manufacturer from China and they are very popular there, but they mostly cloned code from Trezor. From my own experience after talking with them about working together on one project, I can say they are semi-amateurs and liars. I can't seak much about quality of Onekey wallets, but I know they had serious bug connected with secure element, and I wouldn't really use any Onekey device as a main hardware wallet. Bitbox is Swiss made and they are more professional but small team so don't expect miracles from them, and I think they also started with Trezor code. I would rather choose Trezor 3 Safe original wallet, instead of both options you mentioned.

Apples or orange. We talked about titanium used instead of stainless steel, but you just didn't saw that. Onekey is one brand that is making backup plates made only from titanoum metal, but I think I saw few others doing it also. It is true that titanium have a higher melting point, but it is more expensive, and it is not so easy to find it in local shops like stainless steel. I heard there are some temperature overheating issues with new iPhone because they used new titanium material for the first time.

Hi Is it possible to receive Bitcoin on BNB?
Don't use any fake bitcoin tokens on shitcoin blockchains, especially don't use anything longterm on binance chain. They already canceled their stable token busd, and I wouldn't be surprised if they shutdown bnb and all other tokens on that network in future. Most if not all shitcoin blockchains like this are centralized, and they can freeze all tokens, including fake bitcoin on bnb, and manipulate price.

What a cheap pathetic marketing trick from ledger They saw Trezor selling out all their limited Bitcoin-only edition of new Trezor 3 Safe wallet, so they quickly jumped in to fill the ''gap'' with orange ledger Titanic discounts. But on positive side they are at least sending $5 to bitcoin developers.

How about adding regular hard drive and one good old laptop? This is the cheapest and probably mostly used solution for anyone who runs bitcoin node. Fancy node boxes with software are nice and all, but they are mostly for lazy people, and they are not really needed.

Finally I managed to saw one video review for new Keystone 3 hardware wallet, and btw what's up with manufacturers naming hardware wallets with boring number 3, first it was Keystone, than Trezor, who is next Bitbox or Passport? Anyway, here is Keystone 3 video review made by Crypto Guide, I suggest everyone to watch it if you can, it's around 20 minutes long. Important thing he notices about open source claims, Keystone said they will enable it later in November, that is next month so let's see what happens. As of now Keystone 3 is still NOT open source device (yet). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyi-YznynSk

Added new Trezor Keep Metal solutions
Trezor Keep Metal sure does look slick, and I like that it is fire, water and impact resistant, but it's not worth $99 and $249 in my opinion. Punch system looks cool and easy to use, but it's only stainless steel in the end of the day, and it's more expensive than new Trezor 3 hardware wallet What is your progress with adding more seed backup solutions? I only see 20 listed so far.

Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Crosspass - a simple way to share passwords, encryption keys, banking info

on: October 20, 2023, 07:18:32 PM

Update: I have released a new version of Crosspass for Android that fixes many stability issues it had.
I can no longer install and/or update Crosspass on android emulator so you probably fixed that as well. However, I still think you need to have usable option for desktop users... EDIT: wait a minute, I just installed Crosspass on emulator again. I don't have g00gle play store installed, so I am getting this error when I try to create password and note: I also began planning to add a feature to send images, not just text. This is useful if you need to send someone your driving license or a passport photo.
What's the difference from sending image with encrypted email or other encrypted chatting app?

There won't be any cost impact at all.
Good to hear that. btw are you using other third party exchanges for aggregated pool? You've misread the whole statement. There is no part in the whole paragraph where we guarantee someone won't be able to confiscate your coins. We only guarantee a good risk-score in *our* aggregated pool.
I know you can't guarantee what happens on some other website aka exchange Let me clarify what I wanted to say with one real life example I heard from our local board recently. Guy was doing some trading and he was using centralized exchange for this purpose, he accepted coin from other guy on his exchange account and everything was fine in 2021, other guy received fiat money in this trade. Centralized exchange was used in this case to avoid getting coins that are connected with some hacks, scams, etc, and nothing was wrong in 2021. One year later in 2022 he gets a letter from authorities that those coins are coming from scam, and in 2023 (two years later) police confiscate totally different coins from this guy. They make the rules so they can do whatever they want

6A. Best Pixel. I wouldn't say it's the best pixel, but certainly one of the lighter options with only 178 g (6.28 oz), and it can be found very cheap. Let me make few comparisons with pixel 6 with 207 g (7.30 oz) or pixel 6 pro with 210 g (7.41 oz), trust me this is a big difference for wrists. Pixel 5 was even lighter than 6a, but problem is that updates wont be available for much longer on that device, EOL is October 2023. Pixel 7 = 197 g, pixel 7a = 193.5 g, Pixel 8 = 187 g, Pixel 8 Pro = 213 g. I really haven't paid much attention, but it seems better and simpler.
It makes very shaky videos because video stabilization is not yet on the level with Gcam. Easy to install Gcam now and use both versions as needed.
