25  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Direct sell of BTC, buyer can scam. Escrow, seller can scam. :/ on: May 24, 2011, 02:16:53 PM
One day someone will launch, a company which will provide a chargeback like functionality on top of bitcoin and will put paypal our of biz. this is of course if paypal do not start playing ball first.

It's just a bit early for this kind of services to pop up.

why not ?
its buziness, after all ?
if anyone need it, someone provide it, for reasonable fee.

I'm sure someone can just say hey I'll mediate one transaction for a fee or so on, but to launch a full scale business solution that can provide for all won't happen overnight. Without even going in depth, there should be a pretty significant initial investment to manage the risks involved while running this type of business if their goal is to reach the masses.
26  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: where to start mining? on: May 24, 2011, 01:03:01 PM
make a dwolla account. deposit money. tranfer to mtgox. buy btc. wait and profit. Easiest and the fastest to get BTC directly on your own.
27  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: POLL: Are you still buying mining equipment? on: May 23, 2011, 07:35:00 PM
No would be my answer.
28  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: What services are needed by the community? on: May 23, 2011, 03:04:39 PM
I think the best way to settle the price in btc is to simple state your pricing in USD and go with the going exchange rate.

It would be tough to always trying to figure out your current pricing in btc because the rate changes quite a bit.
29  Economy / Economics / Re: Anybody spot the huge transfer? (not so huge I'm sure). on: May 23, 2011, 10:52:31 AM
what is that like 9% entire btc in circulation currently? bitcoinwatch is showing 6.3mil almost. I kinda see that as a big deal.

31  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: (Solved)Mt. Gox claims they didn't recieve my BitCoin on: May 22, 2011, 01:28:10 PM
Just fyi, be patient with mtgox and their return email if you are waiting responses. They did take a few days to get to my email, but they were quick to get to the issue and resolve it.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [FAQ] Is BitCoin a Ponzi or pyramid scheme? (Newbie-Friendly) on: May 22, 2011, 01:05:01 PM
I like your approach to keep it simple and straight forward for the new guys. I can see this FAQ growing into much more robust hub of information about bitcoin making clear of it's facts and myths. Very nicely done.  Wink

Here's my position, which I find to be the most reasonable of the methods by which to cut government spending:

Start cutting benefits for the rich, and taxes for the poor, and work your way to the middle.

I approve. Of course the rich will keep their tax cuts and poor will continue to get squeezed in this plutocracy masked in democratic facade. Too bad there isn't a Clinton Jr. that can come back in office to undo what Bush Jr. did.
34  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Should there be a fee when placing bids\asks on mtgox? on: May 22, 2011, 12:12:29 PM
How do other world systems work with bid and ask spreads? ie stocks, currency spreads on world markets? Are there fees involved?

In most markets, it is free to create a buy or sell order (and it's free to cancel the order).  There is usually a fee/commission only if the trade is actually executed.  This is the way it already is on Mt. Gox.  If there were a fee to create orders, this would reduce volume and liquidity in the market.  We want more volume!

I don't think there should be a fee to place or cancel orders.  There should only be a fee when a trade is executed (as it is now).

I agree that the orders and their volumes would go down if there is fee to even place orders. At current state, I would definitely not want the exchange to make such change. In fact, I think the MtGox fees are already way high as it is.

Some moderate reductions in military spending, social security only for old people, actually tax the rich:

EZ game.

wish that website was an actual a ballot and we were voting on it.
36  Bitcoin / Mining / Did I reach the limit of how many machines I can run at my apt? on: May 22, 2011, 03:53:26 AM
Ok. I recently was introduced to bitcoin by a friend of mine. After few days of mining on my gaming setup I owned already with couple 5970s, I was completely sold on the idea.

Soon after, I bought quite a few of 6990s from Amazon to build myself a mini farm at my apt. The problem I'm having is that now when I try to run all the new machines, the fuses are going out at random outlets because of too much power draw. I really need some guidance here because I don't want my new rigs sitting around doing nothing, but I'm clueless about electricity.

Is there anything that can be done to try to fix this problem? fyi my apt is a lease.

Can I try to change the outlet with those ones in the bathrooms with little buttons on them and maybe that will fix it?
It seems the ones I have plugged on the bathroom extension is the only one not going out all the time.
