ETH market cap just lost 100 million. But no rise in btc?
Le me 'splain. The same fuckin' bitcoins that startid the pump has continued the pump. There ain't no new moneys, get it? and the best part, it's the same fuckin bitcoin that was given to them in the ipo. Free money to pump their worthless fuckin' shit. BRILLIANT. Yeah, Ethereum devs can spend more time skiing in the Alps now. No more crying about the 9M they "lost" when they sucked the value out of the bitcoins raised in their IPO. |

Nobody can ever call Vitalik anything other than brilliant. He's a bona fide genius. I saw him speak at Decentral in Toronto back in January 2014, on the eve of the ETH IPO.. He was brilliant and almost had me convinced that giving him bitcoins for ethers would have been a great deal. I looked into ETH, read the white paper and decided that while the concept of smart contracts and a decentralized P2P programming platform were ground-breaking, and the "ASIC-proof" mining algorith was impressive, something just didn't smell right about the business model. I took a pass on the IPO. Needless to say, during these last few weeks I've come to question that decision as the price soared. I've always thought that Ethereum has great promise and it was only the way they marketed it that made me skeptical. Maybe I'll still consider buying some ethers once the inevitable crash occurs. Well, he became a millionaire spinning his bullshit, so yeah, I'd say he's brilliant. That thing you smelled, btw, was bullshit. He certainly knows how to spread technobabble thick. I've read his white papers since his "Second Bitcoin" one first Ethereum White paper. I can't find the earliest version. He takes a long time to make a point and you're not even sure if it is. He is not eloquent because he doesn't really know what he's talking about. I suggested that gas is a protocol level fee market, which is what I've advocated for years, but he said no it is a fee cost, but you can figure out the market. Potato potato. IOW he spins everything to make an argument even when there isn't one. He's smart, but he seems to prefer to make money over a useful system. So he made an OS out of Bitcoin. People have been writing systems for decades. He still thinks PoS is a good idea ffs. |

Did he explicitly require that activity for participation? Just because it was thought by some to be an optimal medium for that activity, doesn't mean it was there for that explicit purpose. It was a website using TOR. TOR was created by the military. Neither the inventor of websites, nor the inventor of TOR created them for the purpose of illegal activity. If he was a fan of that activity, that also doesn't make it any more illegal than the publications available under the protection of the First Ammendment. If he participated in the activity of selling illicit goods and/or services, that would be another matter. Besides, these goods and services are not illicit everywhere his website served. His biggest mistake was being a US citizen. He doesn't have to require it. It was clear however that he specifically encouraged it - hence why his operation was a criminal operation. -=- And his crime wasn't being a US citizen, his crime was breaking US law. Being outside this country does not mean you can run a narcotics website that accepts business inside the United States. Why do you think so many gambling web sites blacklist U.S. IP addresses? Because if they didn't, they would be violating U.S. law and could be arrested if they ever came here - whether or not they are US citizens. Hell they don't even have to come here to be arrested if the country they are in has an extradition treaty with the U.S. Know the laws of the country you are doing business in. Don't do business in countries where your business is illegal. Wise advice. Good thing they stopped drug trafficking in their country. |

Can't we make a thread called "let everyone one fight over bitcoins issues and developments" and let this one for TA and graphs about speculation?  You go first. Or was that it?  Oh I'm no good at it. I'm not an excellent trader and I suck at TA! That's why I need this thread :-/ Just a bit tired of the debates on this thread, I learn some things so it's cool but most of the time I don't understand shit... Try this!  |

Sounds great until the whole July 2017 (maybe, pinky promise) just in time for one year later than the halving, part. I suspect another player will soon jump in and steal away all their best devs. Blockstream will go bankrupt by years end. Not a chance. They just sold their original roadmap as a compromise... and the miners bought it, completely. If anything, they all deserve bonuses, big ones. Only until the Chinese figure out they got duped, dump their coins, and shut down the miners after the halving leaving a full mempool that won't ever be confirmed. Or maybe that's the plan. Then they can roll out their new HF that will "save" Bitcoin and solidify their position as sole entry and exit points. |

Is Blockstream working on one of those Turing complete scripting languages for smart contracts as a sidechain at all? Are they in competition with Ethereum?
imo, there is no need for a turing complete stack language for specialized use cases like smart contracts. this is bullshit and is coming from ethereum fanboys. security is the first target all other targets have to follow.ethereum is a hype whithout a single proof in the wild so far. emphasis mine |

LN is scheduled to start rolling out 3rd quarter 2016 for more capacity layered ontop of segwit. We all want more capacity, we just want to insure it is done in a safe manner.
That's an awfully ambitious timetable for something that isn't even beta testing yet. Something this new will require years of testing to be done in a safe manner. Meanwhile the villagers gather to push forward the populist solution of larger and larger blocks. |

No other coin has been through the fire yet. I doubt any of them will survive "governance".
to implement a voting-mechanism per stake could solve the issue. in the end its the holders of the currency who should decide which way to go. That's what we have now. It's called fiat. lol i can't remember being asked what rate hike should be next... That's because you don't have enough stake. Get yourself a Federal Reserve bank and enjoy the power. so, in fiat we dont have a "voting-mechanism per stake"? you dont say?! you see, in fact fiat is more like a small developer-group deciding which way to go. its basically the same, just some small group of politicians and economists deciding. Bringing "stake" into Bitcoin rather than hashrate closes the door to participation. I'm not worried about the current politicking because there are people with more money than sense and people smart enough to spend it for them. Ultimately, necessity will drive a proper course of governance. |
