... also note Charles Hoskinson has been involved with both BitShares and Ethereum at different stages.
He's got quite the track record.

Which is?
Bitcoin Education Project, Mastercoin, Bitshares, Ethereum.

I'd rather get paid more bitcoins than fewer bitcoins, so as long as they want to keep the price low is fine with me.

Out of interest: Say you were given the task of designing a portfolio to survive 1000 years, what would it be comprised of?
I don't believe this is a valid question.

We don't have the slightest idea what will be valuable 1000 years from now.
845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why blockchains might want to consider looking into using AT on: October 20, 2014, 04:29:59 PM
This is breaking down barriers between different blockchains.

Let's see how much of a scam AT is in a year....  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

You're assuming that "different blockchains" is a viable concept that's sustainable in the long term.

I know many people are wishing very hard for this to be the case, but economics doesn't care about how hard people wish...
846  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen Proposes Bitcoin Hard Fork to Address Network Scalability on: October 20, 2014, 02:42:46 PM
Of course I agree with increased adoption at the proper rate.
You know what the proper rate is? Looking forward to seeing your paper demonstrating your solution to the economic calculation problem.

I just believe big business has the ability to move projects in a direction they see as favorable to them before its ready and present ideas for implementation to intelligent people in a convincing manner.
Sure, I accept this as a possibility.

What's the best way to combat it?

Spoiler alert: it's not demanding a halt to progress.

There is one valid concern regarding allowing the transaction rate to increase - bandwidth in the network is donated, not paid for. More transactions on the network increase the resource consumption of volunteers who operate relay nodes without providing them with any corresponding revenue.

So if you want Bitcoin to grow sustainably fix that problem instead of demanding the transaction rationing problem remain unfixed.

I'm not trolling that's what I really believe. You are being paid by an organization that has proven its not responsive to the people and it makes really bad decisions.

I don't think your motivated by greed I think your controlled by business.

Increasing the block size allows an increase in the number of transactions. Do you disagree that this favors increased business adoption? Aren't you the one that continuously calls Bitcoin expermental and advises people to only invest what they can afford to lose? How will increasing adoption favor a system in Beta that shouldn't be trusted?
I don't trust Bitcoin Foundation, and I also want Bitcoin to scale up because that's the only way it can survive.

There are 7 billion people in the world, and with a 1 MB block size limit, it means everybody on the planet is allowed to use Bitcoin once every 33 years.

That's never going to happen - if Bitcoin transactions stay rationed, then it will die because everybody will switch to a better currency.
848  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why blockchains might want to consider looking into using AT on: October 20, 2014, 02:09:24 PM
That's up to you to decide. We mostly care for the tech Smiley and we believe any coin should have this functionality.

Later steps (not very soon) on this huge project will be to create a c based compiler for translating high level languages into AT code, so anyone without *machine code* knowledge can easily create programs.

Also we are going to release a new coin with a new proof ( at some point in the future, to fully exploit the power of AT), and we also want to integrate it to a btc based blockchain.

good luck on the IPO  Roll Eyes
Just what the world needs - more scamappcoins.

I also think a fully hedged portfolio should be lined with Gold, you must admit bitcoin carries more risk than Gold. Bitcoin requires a working internet, Gold only requires a hand to hold it.

There is room for both Gold and Bitcoin in a sound portfolio.
I few months ago, I watched a friend encounter the downsides of gold first hand.

He was moving internationally and had absolutely no way to move the amount of gold he had with him.

Long story short, he sold all his gold for bitcoins, and had absolutely no trouble taking the bitcoins with him.

As far as the prepper argument goes, I'm pretty sure that any natural disaster that takes down the internet will destroy the entire concept of a money economy in entirely, so gold will be just as useless as bitcoins.

If you want to prep for that kind of situation, the physical goods you want to hoard aren't gold.

The notion that they are competing against each other is silly
Not silly to anyone who understand the concept of opportunity cost.

still amazing to me Buterin raised all that BTC yet doesn't even have this fundamental strategy resolved yet
First things first.

Ethereum house needed to make sure they were fully stocked with herbs.

853  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM HODLING on: October 19, 2014, 02:06:43 PM
Personally I don't own much, so it's not a real loss if Bitcoin goes to zero. Peace of mind is more important than maximum profit imho.
Peace of mind is knowing my savings are protected from bail-ins, remote asset forfeiture, and are 100% portable internationally.
854  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 18, 2014, 11:52:23 PM
It is not an argument per se, it appears to be based on the (sensible enough) thought that Bitcoin becoming global reserve currency would entail a total revolution in the world order, and it is too improbable for this to happen.
The future will not resemble the pass.
855  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: October 18, 2014, 11:50:05 PM
The bitshares guys keep harping on bitusd but the real killer app IMO is bitgld, which tracks the price of gold and actually pays interest in gold.  For those who want a decentralized, trustless, gold backed digital currency, this is the best you are going to get without having the real thing, which obviously cant be sent over a communications channel.
This is the financial equivalent of people playing fantasy football and mistaking themselves for athletes.
856  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 18, 2014, 11:13:15 PM
Here's the problem with your reasoning:  The likelihood of Bitcoin becoming world's major currency is slim enough to make me (and my Lizard Overlords) laugh.  If it does become a threat to the status quo, it will be banned--already talk in Russia of criminalizing it.  It won't vanish, but it certainly won't thrive.

So who can explain how Bitshares or Counterparty is going to issue shares on the Blockchain?

Will a company issuing 1M shares attach these permanently to 1M Satoshi's? How does the market trade an independent value for the shares if a Satoshi goes to $100 per or if a tx free goes to $100 per?
I can explain how Open-Transactions is going to do it...
858  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 18, 2014, 03:26:38 PM
don't worry, the future belongs to me and not because Bitcoin will be in it....
If that is indeed the case, why exactly are you spending your time here, on a Bitcoin forum?

Surely, if Bitcoin is destined to end up in the dustbin of history you could find more productive things to do with your time?

I wonder what mechanism could make it profitable for you to spend your (presumably) valuable time on the enthusiast forum of a doomed technology?
859  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: October 18, 2014, 02:55:35 PM
Yea, what a great idea...for the easiest way to lose money, when we advise people about investing only what they can afford to lose because of the risky nature of Bitcoin, you come here to advise them to put all they've got into it.... the best pump and dump pyramid scheme.
I'm glad people like you are around to make sure the wrong type of people don't become large bitcoin holders.

I don't want the future to belong to you or people who listen to you - keep up the good work.

 Cheesy
How do to both:

0. Get a job / start a business
1. Convert all your savings to btc
2. Arrange to have your income paid entirely in btc
3. Every time you receive a salary payment, buy enough fiat to cover your expenses until the next payment. Hold the rest of the bitcoins as savings.

Exchange rate falls from $600 to $400? Congratulations - you just got a 33% pay raise.

Exchange rate rises $400 to $600? Congratulations - your savings are worth 50% more.

4. Laugh at all the daytarders
