601  Other / Meta / Re: What one change would you like to see in bitcointalk in 2023 on: January 02, 2023, 03:51:52 PM
Perhaps a better merit system? I mean, whenever someone receives a merit for their reply to a thread, that user's post comes out on top! It's similar to showcasing whose response has the most substance or is the funniest, similar to reddit's.

But yeah! I think this is the most difficult to implement  Cheesy

How would that apply to multiple posts though? 🤔

Your words are true for the honest referrals, that`s why i don`t say that it is my income - just bonus i get time to time. But the referrers with hidden links(like review sites) has a huge quantity of referrals and even part of them that gamble in one month give a big profit. And they continue get referrals every day and get more chances for income.
I saw the monthly profit from such referrer - it was really big and it can be called every month income.

Loyal referrals are super rare to find. I am fortunate to have a few that wagers alot which helps pay off my bills.

But if you're an influencer or those gambling streamer, pretty sure they get to survive off referral income.

my name change is trivial compared to most of the other things on your list--but thanks for remembering the details of how it happened.

Aww don't say that, having theymos notice a single name change request is revolutionary, meanwhile we're still waiting for our reporter badges Grin
604  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to Bitcointalk - Where to safely purchase Bitcoin? on: January 02, 2023, 01:01:54 PM
I agree, I think there will be long term and negative spillover on crypto because of FTX. Ordinary investors will be turned off by it. If that can happen to FTX what's to say it can't happen at Binance? I think people should store their crypto in their own wallets so they are in full control. Do you mind if I ask if you keep your holdings on an exchange or your own wallet?

Correct. However there are still many that are either not invested or just too lazy, until they experience it themselves. Perhaps they don't have a substantial holding or just believed that the exchange is too established to go bust. Binance is one.

606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will you buy more ETH after reading this ? on: January 02, 2023, 07:24:13 AM
But I'll still be looking to buy some ethereum in addition to focusing on bitcoin. We all have choices and know what is best for us, so we must try to get it.

Username checks out :p

Both are good, just that one's the OG and the other's an ecosystem for different apps and deployments.
607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: will this damage the device? on: January 02, 2023, 07:20:25 AM
Any outage will damage your hardware for sure. What you should worry about more is your hard drive(s) that store data. Dealing with corrupted data from abrupt shutdowns is the worst thing to face because they cost a fortune to restore.

Are you running one of those cloud mining software?

I'd assume it's the likes of NiceHash or those CLI ones.

I have plenty of the RP's available with me. 150K+ RP's just sitting around and doing nothing really. I have first obvious option to convert them in satoshi and earn some interest on them from the "Earn BTC" tab. But if I do this then I will have to wait for very very long time to achieve the 100K RP limit so that I can withdraw them again. [ Considering I am not doing great at multiplier and bets]

No one size fits all. Some keep their RPs till the end of the world, others like me will convert them to BTC boosters during favorable situations such as when the prices are down so there are more sats per claim.

That's why I don't wait until they reach 100K, rather time for the most optimum amount of BTC.

No, I don't understand this and I'm afraid to make things worse. the site opens well today, but very often it does not work on the home Internet, this has never happened before. I want to understand the reason, there is the same problem with another site, it rarely opens at all.

It's difficult to point out the root cause since the rest of us are able to access it just fine, and your ISP did mention it's not their issue as well.

About what I mentioned earlier, it's pretty safe and you could always revert back if things don't work. Below is a guide for Chrome (or a Chromium browser):

I know that a lot expect BFG to get listed on Binance, token price to go sky and they get rich. But I think that is not what BetFury team aims on, and what will happen.

I suggest everyone better to focus on gambling and having fun, instead of thinking how to earn more with BetFury.

We have FUN as an example. Still below 1 cent even after being listed on Binance for over 5 years now, even after FBC's takeover.

People have to accept the fact that Binance listing doesn't necessarily mean insta-Moon. Somemore with a sideways market.

I tried different browsers - it did not help. The problem with the network, or some kind of virus. Cry

Have you tried using a different DNS? Like Google or Cloudflare
613  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We have been told: Invest only Extra money in bitcoin on: December 30, 2022, 02:01:47 PM
2022 is a year many Big Tech companies fire many employees. It did not happen in many years and I believe many of fired people thought they had stable jobs.

Pity those working at Twitter when they have such an eccentric boss that won't hesitate to axe anyone the moment they're in his sights.
614  Other / Meta / Re: Careless copying of forum links redirects you to Binance on: December 30, 2022, 12:37:18 PM
I don't think people who mistakenly entered into that redirected page will ever sign up. Especially people who searches for Bitcointalk and ends up here will ever sign up to this referral program.
At Least people who spends fair amount of time will not fall for this, but maybe it is targeted for newbies.

Same here.

Well, on the Internet, anyone would do anything for a quick buck.
615  Other / Meta / Re: Careless copying of forum links redirects you to Binance on: December 29, 2022, 07:20:11 AM
That is why I have been trying to understand the actual reason for creating that domain.
The interface of bitcointalk is quite different from that of Binance. No one in their right senses would continue on Binance affiliation page while expecting bitcointalk.
I think it is a wrong method of promotion which may not result to any positive thing to the creator.
The bitcointalk admin will only be bothered if the site is malicious otherwise it should be ignored.

You can say the same reason why people target domains that are related to existing or potentially new products, say Xbox 2.

But it ain't dumb if it works. If people could fall for the "deposit to receive 2X crypto back", I won't be surprised to see people signing up under the referral link and maybe even trading there.
616  Economy / Reputation / Re: Hey, Changpeng Zhao - you are an accomplice of FTX scam! on: December 29, 2022, 07:13:21 AM
While chances of him being currently active on bitcointalk are slim to none (and so are the chances of him ever seeing this topic) I think that he most likely came across this forum sometimes in the past, and maybe even created an account. Keep in mind that he is in crypto since 2013, situation back then was much different, there weren't many places where you could talk about bitcoin and bitcointalk was in the center of it all.

Yeah, maybe for like a second or two.

Even if this forum is the OG of crypto, not everyone bothers unless it benefits them in some way,

Hmm, I'd go with:

ETH     50%   https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/eth   #2
BNB           25%   https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/bnb   #5
SHIB           15%   https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/shiba-inu   #17
SAFEMOON        10%   https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/safemoon   #181
620  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for an Easy, Non-Custodial Wallet for my parents friend on: December 28, 2022, 05:26:58 AM
I would follow aysg76's comment, better convert all different cryptos to Bitcoin or I would say Ether is fine too, plenty self custody wallets available, Metamask being obvious choice.

However, it's usually target for malevolent actors, better set it up yourself, give them seed phrase and advise to hold it securely rather than using wallet itself.

From time to time, I still receive warnings from Metamask over my unverified wallet lol.

But for the sake of security, a hardware wallet is still a sound choice. They might even appreciate/ remember it's not something that costs a penny or two, or is free.
