281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What date will doge hit 1 cent? on: May 24, 2017, 12:03:26 PM
On a similar DOGE related note, is it viable to short DOGE long term on Poloniex.
It is obviously going to fall, I mean look at the charts!  It always rises to 100+ sats briefly, then falls quickly back down.

I would love to profit from the inevitable fall, but I don't want to have to pay very high interest rates. It could take a week or 2 before it falls, going long is easy, going short has a higher degree of urgency.
282  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 24, 2017, 08:56:41 AM
Being rich in btc is great but taking a slight bit of the profit you make and put it in dollars can't hurt anyone Wink

A lot of people did that and are already hurt.
This is why I take a slight bit of the profit I make and put it in bitcoins.
If you want to diversify your bitcoin holdings put part of it in gold or silver! Putting it in dollars is stupid.

Done already, but I am considering doing a bit more now.  I am really enjoying the price rise, but come on, it was looking bubbly at $1250 in January, we are almost double that now without a correction of note for a while, and every day sees another rrise.

It really seems like a bot is constantly buying, like with Mt Gox. But I wonder if that is the case, or it is just general buying pressure from new investors.

I don't want to miss the top, but a few ounces of gold might be looking pretty good in the future if this bitcoin bubble pops (and it always has in the past - but maybe this is the new normal!)
283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wanna Cry Associated Bitcoin Wallet's Transactions Monitoring on: May 24, 2017, 05:30:28 AM
I couldn't find this thing posted here on this forum but I just came across a twitter bot which is monitoring bitcoin wallet transactions which are related to the ransomware attack going around.

Actual ransom - https://twitter.com/actual_ransom

This is not my bot and I am not sure, how real time it is but I am sharing this for those who are curious about it.

Also, request you all to share this article published on The Hacker news to make your friends and relatives aware of this attack and precautions to take.

What is WannaCry? How to Protect your Computer from WannaCry Ransomware? .

Stay updated, stay secure.
Do they actually unlock the computers of people who pay?  It is a pretty easy business, and scary too when you don't have to open any dumb emails, or click on any links.

I think it shows the importance of having your bitcoin secure. You need to be able to access them even if you lose your computer, and the hacker/thief needs not to be able to get to them too.

It doesn't seem to have hurt Bitcoin much, looking at the price, but i think people will associate Bitcoin more with crime when they see viruses like this.
284  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I've been watching the recent alt coin pumps... on: May 24, 2017, 05:14:45 AM
What do you want to hear?  Obviously lots of coins are pumped on a daily basis, they sometimes sit at a price for a long time, many months, then explode in 2 minutes to double the price.  That is the whale pump.

A little later everyone else, be it bots or people just following the pumps, they jump on too, increasing the volume and the price even further.

The whales can even sell out easily nowadays that volume is so high, the dumps aren't as dramatic as before.

Yes, prices are too high. Many $10mil valued coins are pretty much worthless.
285  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you buy Bitcoins using Paypal? on: May 23, 2017, 10:51:49 AM
If you wanted to buy bitcoins through paypal then you can use localbitcoins site where you will find lot of options to buy bitcoins. but it is not recommended to use paypal for bitcoins as paypal blocks the account which uses bitcoins and if any problem in transaction paypal wont help you. So be carefull when you use paypal for bitcoins
I would say it is more difficult for the seller, as the buyer can do a chargeback and keep the Bitcoins.

Expect to have to show a lot of documents to be able to buy Bitcoin with Paypal.  They shouldn't trust you, so will want to see your passport/ID and get other verifiable information from you before selling, to reduce their chances of getting ripped off.

I guess you will have to pay a premium too.

All in all, it would be better for you to buy using almost any other method. Why do you have to use Paypal??
286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: The PUMP/DUMP power of Poloniex on: May 23, 2017, 10:43:35 AM
I agree, Poloniex is the platform of choice for Alts trading and especially Alts pumping and dumping!
Other coins that aren't listed on poloniex are still pumping, but not so crazily and one after another like on Poloniex.

I find the platform easy to use, but I found that previously with MCXnow (is that what is was called?) and that turned out to be a scam. It was similar with the p&ds there too.
287  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin sucks ass but price still rises- how come on: May 22, 2017, 06:24:22 AM
It's funny, but I really kind of agree with you.  I haven't heard anyone talk about Bitcoin, even though the price has doubled from it's recent bubble level!
So other than occasional news articles, it isn't getting mentioned.

It is limited by the number of transactions, making it unviable as a currency.  It will either fork, which will be a nightmare, or not, leaving it eternally limited.

Regulations still haven't really been sorted out. It is kind of illegal in a few countries, treated as assets in others, some see it as money, some don't.  I guess the tax authorities will be taking note of the price rise, but otherwise governments don't seem to care too much.

BUT: the price is great!  I used to look at a 4 digit price and think it was very high, now I see $1900 and think, oh it hasn't gone up in the last day!  It could fall back to more normal levels, but it might not too.  There is a lot of money in the world, and people like to invest in new stuff that is going up in value.
288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What about this fee? on: May 22, 2017, 06:14:26 AM
What was the purpose of this transaction. Why they have paid that much fee? This is insane.

It doesn't have anything to do you with you, why are you asking about people moving their money around?  It is said to be a positive woth Bitcoin that everything can be seen on the blackchain, but if Bitcoin was ever really used as a currency, I guess we would have nosey people looking through everyone's transactions and asking what they were for and why the paid x fee!

If you are moving coins between wallets, then it isn't urgent, so you can try to save on fees. Rich people are often prudent, so won't pay more than neccessary.
289  Economy / Speculation / Re: Selling at $2000,- /btc? on: May 19, 2017, 08:54:04 AM
I don't think I will sell out at $2000, no.  I think I am now a holder until I can directly swap my Bitcoin for property.
I always said that I would buy some gold when we reached parity, well I managed to do that, getting far more than 1oz per Bitcoin.

Now I really don't know what I would do with the fiat if I sold out of Bitcoin. I don't see any great investing opportunities, so I might as well stay in Bitcoin!
290  Economy / Economics / Re: Will silver ever skyrocket? on: May 19, 2017, 06:23:53 AM
I really doubt it ever will, if you do have some, sell it and get some Gold rather, gold seem to skyrocket whenever there is a major disaster and it seems that almost happens on at least a monthly basis. Gold is the best investment for terrible times.
I think the whole point in investing in Silver now is that ist is historically at a low Silver:Gold price ratio, as well as being more volatile.
The hope is that when Gold rises, Silver will rise even more back to the historical norm ratio and there will be profit to be made.

Don't buy into the whole $1000/oz rubbish, it could be $50 sometime again soon, but even that is far from certain.
There isn't a shortage like some people say, and plenty is mined as a byproduct.
291  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Bitcoin is better than Gold? on: May 18, 2017, 01:04:05 PM
So Bitcoin is better than Gold? Roll Eyes
Wake me up when you can transfer $1 billion worth of gold for $2 in ~10 minutes from any to any location of the world. Roll Eyes

Stop convincing people that bitcoin is better than anything not only gold, I can't afford to buy a single coin ever since price jumped from $1100 to $1800 Sad I didn't realized then but now I'm not telling anyone about bitcoin any more, because I've realized that I've found a gold mine and what an idiot I was to shout about it every where.
Bitcoin becoming mainstream and with 50K transactions per second in the future as we all know is inevitable but we must take advantage while is in infancy stage.

Btw, is it $2000 which you can take cash out of a country when you travel by airplane or was it $10,000?

Well the image clearly answers and I feel it done a brilliant job to answer op question. I have been personally telling my family and friends, to avoid gold and opt for Bitcoins since last September, and boy they did make some good money. As far the third post, you are really confused 😕, just cause it shoot up now you don't like it? So you mean to say, just cause you told people it shot up, wake up Bitcoin world is bigger than the you. Then again let's take advantage why so mixed. Be happy it's growing and keep on telling people, more people more useful for all.

The infomatic is really cool, if a little misleading. Fiat is better for spending than Bitcoin. The 25c tip is also out of date now, you would't be able to send it anymore with fees being so high!
suggested miner's fee? Not if you actually want your Bitcoin to arrive!
Theft protection, Mt. Gox, viruses, trojans, lost phones, hacked account. Do they not count. I lost 0.8btc to Mt Gox, that is more than I have ever lost or had stolen in fiat, ever!

Crossing borders is a big advantage at the moment with Bitcoin, though it will apparently become the norm that the NSA will check your phone/computer to check for dodgy activity, including seeing that you don't have lots of Crypto.
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How secure and strong are the tools cryptocurrency use? on: May 18, 2017, 12:56:30 PM
Do you mean that the crpyto code itself could get hacked? If someone sets up a coin with a stupidly weak encryption, then it could happen, but there is no reason for someone to do that.
If crypto encrption is cracked, then it would be far bigger than one altcoin, it would effect Bitcoin and the big alts too.

51% attacks are a risk in small alt coins, as is poor coding. Even Ether has been messed with a few times, even though lots of people are working full time on the coding for that.
293  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin ETF - decision 15th May - Time and place on: May 15, 2017, 11:42:14 AM
When they reject the ETF again, I expect a quick fall in price, followed by a recovery.
Then we can start talking about the next SEC decision, which will probably be in the next few months, and the hope can build again that this time it will be accepted.

I hope they stop with these stupid ETFs, if you want to invest in Bitcoin, invest in Bitcoin. No ETF is required!
294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Analysis: Money is Still Pouring In – Bitcoin, Litecoin, Stellar Lumens etc on: May 14, 2017, 06:28:27 PM
Just a quick note, Stellar Lumens is just being pumped, I bet that it won't be heavily traded, or above 500sats in 6 months.

Money is moving in though obviously. Bitcoin is near its all time high and Alts are still very high, even if they have come off the boil a little in the last week.

As prices rise and don't then dump, people start to get used to the new high prices. I see $1750 now and think it is normal, I used to think $1000 was a dream price. When the price stays high, they will invest in the hope of further rises, then the cycle can start again. It is an exciting time in Crypto. My once fairly small investment has taken over my portfolio. I still don't want to sell though, I am a happy holder!
295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What can be done to bring these SCAMMERS to justice??? took the BTC and dumped on: May 14, 2017, 06:23:29 PM
We all know that investing in small start up Altcoins is a risk.  It can be worth the risk when the coin is pumped at some point, but for every 'success' story, there are plenty of others that are just pure scams.

Unfortunately too many people happily accept the big risk of the coin being a scam, in case it isn't and they can make lots of money out of it.

Ask yourself this, would you invest in this start up offline with fiat money? It is being started on a forum by people you don't know, who are collecting large sums of money to do essentially nothing original whilst working outside of normal business guidelines.  It is crazy to give them money, but people do anyway.

I wish there were about 10 altcoins, all well run serious enterprises, but instead we have hundreds of shit coins that and almost all scammy and going nowhere.
296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Brain wallets on: May 13, 2017, 08:01:51 PM
Is it not dangerous? I may not be the brightest person in the world, but if I don't use my debit card, that I have had for years, for a few weeks, I can be left stood looking stupid until the 4 digits come back to me.

I use Lastpass, and there I have a strong password that I remember, but that means I only need to remember 1 password.

Using several brain wallets long term either means writing them down, which is dangerous, or having a great memory, or forgetting them!  Unless you vary the one brain wallet you have slightly, which won't offer the protection you want.
297  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: *** BitcoinCommodities - FREE US SHIPPING and LOWER PRICES *** on: May 13, 2017, 06:31:00 PM
My comment certainly wasn't meant as a slur, I hope you weren't offended!

The coins arrived today, all good. You have a happy customer here! I hope to order again in the future.
298  Economy / Economics / Re: What percentage of global population are using or have at least 1 satoshi? on: May 12, 2017, 07:02:39 AM
there was a chart showing a possible realistic estimate of the value if bitcoin was used by a certain % of population, and the majority would choose bitcoin, the value would be already in the $100k range

Probably less than 1% of world using bitcoin. Looking at the people using bitcoin and population of world, 1% is also seemingly high.

1%? no way, 1% is a lot, is 1/ of 7B, which is 70M people, i highly doubt that even 10M are using bitcoin let alone 70M, the value would be much higher if that was the case

The chart is interesting.  I don't know anyone else who owns Bitcoin, I knew one guy, a bioinformatisist, who bought 1 bitcoin a few years ago, but he left the company so I don't know if he still holds, or sold for profit.

If 65mil is right, then 0.1% or 1 in 1000 people use Bitcoin. Where are they using them? In Germany it is difficult to spend them anywhere. I would also expect that some younger savers would be looking to get into Bitcoin, but again, I hear nothing.

At Christmas I explained to my Dad that I have Bitcoin, he had no idea what it was, how much it was worth, or what it is for!  It would be good to get some real information out there to people. I think in Switzerland it must be better explained if you can pay on the trains with Bitcoin, otherwise no one would know how to do it!
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Ethereum beat Bitcoin to an ETF? on: May 12, 2017, 06:52:56 AM
A coin that had hardforked in the last year, as well as rising about 20fold, and being hacked, doesn't seem like a great basis for an ETF.
The problems that the SEC saw with Bitcoin are most probably also true of ETH. Do we know that China isn't the major miner? I would assume that they are.

I don't think that ETFs are good long term for Crypto, much like SLV and GLD for the precious metals, but if and when an ETF is accepted, it will have to be for Bitcoin.
300  Economy / Speculation / Re: What price would you stop buying Bitcoin? on: May 12, 2017, 06:48:56 AM
I stopped buying a long time ago at 238€. Granted I did buy a few times as the price was falling, at 345€ then 290€, then 238€, but I felt like the price was low and that downside was low.
Now we are at all time highs, I am not saying that the price won't continue to rise from here, but there is a lot of downside.  I mean $1000 is a good price historically, but someone buying today would be sat on a 40% loss at $1000.

I would be tempted to sell at some point, then rebuy should the price fall to increase my number of Bitcoins. The problem there is obviously that I don't know if and when the price will fall, and if it does, who knows where it will settle or how low it will go!

I am a happy holder at the moment.
