22  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [~3000 Gh/s Mining Pool] HTTPS,API, instant payouts,LP,+1% for NO INVALID BLOCKS on: June 17, 2011, 04:04:42 PM
Am I the only on who's balance isn't updating hourly?
Worker shares are being incremented, block stats are updated, but my balance hasn't increased in the past two hours.... ?
Balance is not always updated in 00 minutes of each hour.
It will not be updated if you are using Proportional mode and no blocks were found during that hour.
Also one update may be skipped in some other cases.

Those delays only affect the displayed value. Your real balance is correct.

Great to know, thanks!

24  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: NEWEGG HD 5830 IN STOCK as of 1:30pm Central 109.99$ on: June 15, 2011, 12:01:06 AM
Yeah they sold out fast as lightning.  I was able to order one but I'm just hoping I will be able to use it in my mobo.  My primary computer just has one pci-e slot and ive got a 6850 in that one.  My secondary older computer used to have a 8800gt in it but I managed to get a 5850 last week and get it working.  The motherboard is an M2n-sli deluxe

 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131013&cm_re=m2n-sli_deluxe-_-13-131-013-_-Product

Now I know that I will not be able to use Crossfire for the 5850 and 5830 that I just ordered because the nvidia chipset on the board does not support it, but I am wondering if anyone knows if just for mining purposes putting the 5830 in the second pci-e will be ok.  As long as it is detected I don't think there should be any problems but I would appreciate if anyone knows for sure if running these 2 cards in the board is possible.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, you can mix and match cards. One of my miners has a 5850 & 5830 in it, running Win7-64. I've alson seen others mix the 5xxx series with 6xxx series.

"purists" usually picks Slackware [&derrivatives], Free/Open-BSD or even go TinyCore  or other LFS-alike distros Wink
Couldn't agree more!

Slackware was the first distro I ever installed, back around 1996. 40-some-odd 3.5" floppies, if I remember correctly. My how far we've come! Wink

If it's a dedicated miner you can look into under clocking the CPU and disabling some cores.  Additionally, set the affinity for that process to use only one core.

But yeah, you've got other issues. I run the same CPU with the stock cooler, and it hangs around 38C idle, and low 60's under load. First thing I'd do is remove the cooler, clean all the paste off the chip and cooler, and reapply (properly!) a good thermal compound like Artic Silver. It's quite possible the CPU simply isn't transferring the heat to the heat sync.

Awesome sub-forums Smiley

May be good to include uninstallers.

I recommend CCleaner on Windows.

I don't know how to do uninstallation on Linux. Someone may wanna shed light on that one Smiley

sudo apt-get remove [package name]

Also, if you want useless dependencies removed, install deborphan or debfoster.

...provided the distribution of Linux you're using uses apt for package management!  RedHat, for example, uses rpm's.

If you're a purist like me who downloads the source and compiles it yourself, "make uninstall" typically works from the source's directory.

Where would I see if I've downloaded all the old transactions?

I'm using the Mac Client, and at the bottom it says 0 Connections, 130070 Blocks, 0 Transactions

I'm not waiting on any transactions to go through, just want to be ready for when they do

*edit* In the unlikely event someone sees this, at some point between when I posted this, and about 30 minutes ago, I've lost the ability to post, make threads, and private message people... have no clue what happened, if I've been banned, or what, I'd assume if one were banned the forum would tell them so, but I've never actually been banned from a forum ever, so not sure how that works...

You need to port-forward port 8333 to the host running bit client if your behind a NAT'd connection. Not sure why, I don't have to do it for Wnidows hosts, but that's the only way I can get t to run under OSX.

34  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How should I split earnings with my friends? on: June 11, 2011, 09:19:07 PM
Nothing can ruin a good friendship like money can. If you've already made a deal, be careful how you approach him, if it's a friendship you value. At the end of the day, he's going to see it as you trying to cut him out of money you already agreed to give him, which is probably why he was willing to put up the cash for the rig in the first place; This was an investment he made, based off the options he was presented at the time.

I've lost two friends to things like this, one of which was a friend for years. Looking back now, it wasn't worth it. Good luck!

They rushed me to the ER, and at this point I was barely conscious so I don’t remember everything, but they put bags of ice on me and made me drink tons of liquids
What, the ER was out of IV's?

That is standard treatment for hyperthermia...

Also I seriously thought this guy was trolling when I first saw the story on /g/.

Hrmm. I'm by no means a medical expert, but my initial thought was they were doing it for hydration. But I guess along the same lines, people with hypothermia are given hot liquids too, to warm from the inside.

I don't know, find it hard to believe myself, but I guess anythings possible. I woke up hot last night because I forgot to turn the thermostat down to 74F and it was 78F in the room. But I guess some people can/will sleep through anything!

is there any project working on a flash based bitcoin miner?
LinuxCoin can be booted from flash memory, if that's what you're looking for.

If you're referring to Macromedia Flash, no, not that I'm aware of.

Will you accept BTC for the entire transaction? Sorry, not clear from the original post...

11 BTC includes postage, but there will be a delay as I will have to sell them myself first

Well with no guarantee the store won't sell out before you can convert the BTC makes it a difficult.

Thanks anyway, I appreciate what you're trying to do for the community!

39  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The Most Efficient Rig on: June 11, 2011, 06:57:31 PM
600 watts is 600 watts, for example, it doesn't matter what year the hardware was made. If it were even possible, it wouldn't matter if you had a 486DX2/66, as soon as you drop video cards in the power consumption goes up, and so does your electric bill. you can kill a few watts by not having a CD drive, booting from a USB stick, etc. But your biggest power consumption is your video cards.

Only you can make this decision. Figure out your desired hash rate and find the most power efficient card combination to achieve that rate, and determin if its cost effective given your electrical rate and budget. The power consumption of the CPU and ram is nothing compared to what the gpus will consume.
