3  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 3 Antminer S1 and power supplies if desired on: July 24, 2014, 12:42:02 AM
My brief stint in mining is done. Minin' ain't easy. Escrow expected as I am a new user.

3 Antminer S1s in great shape, dust removed, hashing fine but I live in a tiny apartment, I like to live at 71F, and my AC hasn't turned off once. Asking .75 BTC with power supplies (1000w and 500w), 3 extra fans, original static bags and original boxes. Will charge actual shipping or you can ship on your account. Will ship from 77002 (Houston, TX).

If someone buys these within 24 hours I'll include two very tall external wifi antennas.

Gaining trust here is hard so please respond to this post so as to be transparent. We can work out the details via PM.

Thanks.
4  Economy / Services / Re: Mining Contracts Offered: 3x Antminer S1 @ 520-540ghs on: July 22, 2014, 09:12:52 PM
Just to clarify, I'm trying to free up capital. So, if you'd like to purchase 1 or 2 days of mining, I won't sell it below what I can mine for.

However, if you want to purchase 30+ days of mining, and you can make a reasonable case (I know it won't be exact because bitcoin estimations never are) that I would expect to make 0.75 BTC in 30 days (as a completely fabricated example), I would be more than willing to take a discount on that 0.75 BTC because it frees up a reasonable amount of money and because I can reinvest that money into other things or use it as I see fit.

If you prefer a some now, some-in-escrow situation that's okay too, but the idea is to benefit you by getting a discount and therefore a "more sure" ROI and to benefit me by getting BTC in my hands for other projects.

Regarding escrow, if you're doing 30 days or longer, I don't mind doing a 0 now, 25% in 5 days, 25% in 10 days, etc arrangement or something to that effect.

Thanks again to those who PMed me. I appreciate your offers and the time you took to write me.
5  Economy / Services / Mining Contracts Offered: 3x Antminer S1 @ 520-540ghs on: July 21, 2014, 07:12:17 PM
I have 3 antminer s1s. If anyone is interested in renting them for a day, week, month or longer, I will gladly point them at your pools. No extra charges (electricity, maintenance, blah blah blah).

I don't have a set price in mind...I'm not a company, just a person with three of these things sitting in his apartment. Feel free to suggest something reasonable, either via PM or by replying here.

Thanks homies.
6  Economy / Lending / Requested: 1 BTC / Prefer Local / Multiple Income Streams to Repay on: July 19, 2014, 07:40:37 PM
Hello, I'm requesting a 1 BTC loan.

About me
I frequented this site during the block erupter days and purchased many units from a seller here to resell. I live in Houston, TX and it would be great if I could deal locally.

Loan Request
Purpose: Temporarily locked up some cash in other things and I'd like to visit my daughter for her 2nd birthday.
Collateral: Acer Aspire S3 391 and a Sony Xperia Z1s (unlocked) both in excellent condition. I do not have much in digital currency, so if you're a lender local to Houston that would be ideal.
Terms: Weekly payments of 0.078 BTC for 14 weeks, no discount requested for early payoff. 9.2% simple interest or something like that. Note that I just started mining at 500 Gh/s so it is likely I will be able to send faster payments but I only guarantee the terms stated.

I'm willing to provide proof of address (lease), proof of income, and ID. I'd also like to potentially continue a lending relationship just in case, as even 15% is cheaper than some options.

Please keep comments business related. I offered collateral and stated in the title I prefer local, I stated realistic terms, and I didn't give you a sob story. If you have something constructive and useful to add that is not related solely to lending, feel free to PM me.
7  Economy / Services / Re: 110,000 KH/s up for grabs on: November 28, 2013, 06:01:48 PM
I second Dragoon's question. I would be interested in fractional rental or in grouping together with a few people.

Humorous. If anyone wishes to bid higher, please bid in increments of 0.05 BTC as I wouldn't want to undercut someone's bid for something smaller.

12  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Opinion on the US on: November 01, 2013, 03:50:12 PM
My significant other is from a country with a King. There's no asking questions, and your family may disappear if you say something like "He's an idiot".

Yeah, the USA is the worst country ever...

Maybe we need to be more like Gandhi and "be the change"  instead of sitting on a PC complaining about it. If there's anything bad about America, it's that we blame everybody else. Change some crap if you don't like it.

Corrupt politicians? Do you even know where the word lobbying comes from?
Starving kids? Easy fix.
Too much debt? Set the example first.
Too few services? GET INVOLVED.
Too many services? GET INVOLVED.
Don't like something? GET INVOLVED.

At least write a friggin' letter. It worked for America in 1776 and 1863.

I am rather dedicated. I'm better with words than with a placard in the streets (been there, done that), and I have been DEEPLY involved in politics.

What I found was that those who seek office should NEVER have any form of power over anyone but themselves, because they INTEND to use it for personal gain, or their personal vision of hell paradise. Being an anarchist at my age is not a reactionary or unreasoned position. It might be for the very young, a sort of diffuse teenage rebellion, but for those of us with some years under our belts, the philosophies of liberty are not abstracts or simply a topic for discussion amongst friends or internet fora.

Some basic truths about the United States of America. The corporation, not the nation of people.

One. The system cannot be reformed. Why? Because it works as it is intended. No, not the bullshit they sell you on the idiot box, the ACTUAL intent. Which is to gain as much power in the hands of a few "elites" as possible without fomenting a revolution. The "federalists" (imperialists, if we're to be honest and historically accurate) recalled very well the vast uncertainties and suffering caused by a full scale revolution. But unlike the "anti" federalists (who were ACTUALLY federalists rather than imperialists), the Federalists wanted a strong central government FOR THE PURPOSE of making the United States (plural, at the time) into one great empire. It took them a few decades and an otherwise unnecessary war, but they pulled it off. From 1865 onwards, nearly everything they have done has had the express purpose of expanding and consolidating the central authority. They have succeeded brilliantly. Alexander Hamilton would be immensely proud of the current government.

Two. Those who would rule want power like a drowning man wants air. I have personally met almost all of the current senate and about half of the current congress at earlier stages in their so-called careers. There is not one of them that I think this untrue of, except Dr. Ron Paul who I'm unsure of. That he is sincere in his beliefs, I have no doubt. But I'm not certain whether he has that lust for power. Unlike the whole rest of them, he was a gentleman to the staff. I give him points for that, and for much of his philosophy. But he sought power at the Imperial court, and he got it for many years. That makes him dangerous, even if his intentions are good. Which I am not certain of. The rest of them would throw their mother in front of a freight train for one more vote. And I AM certain of that.

Three. Voting is futile. You are given a very limited choice. You do not vote on law or regulation. You have no choice in that at all. The United States of America is not the Swiss Confederation. Citizens have privileges and duties, not rights. Nor real power. You can't even own the property you live on in any real sense. As Emma Goldman said, if voting could change anything, they would make it illegal. Contrary to the popular saw, voting TAKES AWAY your right to bitch, as you are supporting the system, regardless of the outcome.

I have much more, but that's enough to chew on for now.

Your viewpoint is interesting, though I don't know anything about you other than what you wrote in this post. I agree, to a lesser degree, with some parts of it. I was going to ask why you don't move to France or Russia or Zimbabwe or ________ but I think you alluded to something when you said you were not referring to the "nation of people". Does this mean you hold out hope for what it could be (i.e. what the actual people could make it), or that you've given up entirely on the US and you're just waiting for it to fall apart enough to reassemble the pieces?

14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The One True God: Satoshi Nakamoto on: October 24, 2013, 02:41:47 PM
I'm actually a Christian (OH NO!) and thought this was funny. But then again the pictures you edited were mostly catholic and I've always thought the catholic faith was a bit on the religious side.

In Revelation (a book in the bible) there is a vague warning that could be misconstrued to be pointing to a one world currency that might be possibly like bitcoin. The main problem is that there are about 30 other prerequisites, and prerequisites to those prerequisites. The idea is that if there is a satanic anything, it's easy to spot if you are paying attention.

Think about Jesus and the government in ancient Rome. He showed an immense amount of respect, even paying taxes which were even more usurious than now. Respect doesn't mean agreeing with wrongdoings, and I think bitcoin actually corrects a lot of government wrongdoings. Most barter facilitating mediums in existence are essentially usury which is slavery. Slavery to anything, especially holders of debt, is warned against.

To summarize: Funny, and we've earned our reputation (or the televangelists have...), but I think the beliefs of bitcoin followers and the beliefs of true believers in God are similar in some situations.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How Do I Setup and Mine with a ASIC USB Block Eruptor with CGMiner? on: August 31, 2013, 02:50:16 PM
Your diction indicates that you may be using some version of Windows. Did you read the windows-build.txt file within the cgminer-3.4.1-windows.7z file you downloaded? If so, what step did you get to?

Alternatively, if you're NOT using Windows, what OS are you using (specifically) and what steps have you taken?
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Project: CGMiner 3.4.0 with USB Block Erupters on a 5W pogoplug mobile on: August 30, 2013, 09:35:09 PM
Intro
I don't know if anyone needs this, but I'm a supernoob and it took me a while to piece this together. I did not come up with any of this. I used archlinuxarm.org, archlinux.org, cgminer's readme, and some other stuff. If you deserve credit and I forgot, sorry - feel free to take it :-)

Apologies if this is useless - I'm only posting because I needed a guide this simple. It's probable that no one else does. This is my first post - take it easy on me Undecided

Constructive criticism is always welcome.

WARNING: following these directions will void warranties, destroy cities, and ultimately cause an early apocalypse.

Synopsis
I wanted a standalone, low-wattage miner that could scale and was fun to experiment with. I wanted it to restart mining when interrupted. I didn't want to buy a raspberry pi because I figured I'd destroy a few pieces of technology accidentally so I opted for things I could mostly get locally. I decided on a pogoplug mobile (as of 8/30, available via ebay at $15 each free shipping) and a powered usb hub.

Background
  • I am new to most concepts here, including linux, bitcoin, and cryptography
  • I don't fully understand how bitcoin works, but I understand enough to appreciate and enjoy it
  • I've used ubuntu in the past, and I understand (VERY) basic bash commands

My (Humble) Setup
  • USB Block Erupters
  • USB 2.0 Powered Hub from Office Depot (~$27 US with tax - find a better hub!)
  • 1 PogoPlug Mobile from Radio Shack (On sale $21.39 US with tax)
  • 8 GB USB thumb drive (On sale $5.32 US with tax at WalWart)

What I Did
Step 1 - Arch Linux

  • Register device via pogoplug.com/activatep
  • Enable SSH: my.pogoplug.com -> security tab -> checkbox
  • Plug in new USB Drive for arch installation (no usb hub)
  • Power On
  • Check Router DCHP Clients Table for IP Address of "Pogoplug Mobile"
  • SSH into pogoplug (I used putty for Winblows 8 )
  • Stop pogoplug software

Code:
killall hbwd

  • Start fdisk to partition usb2 or sata drive:

Code:
/sbin/fdisk /dev/sda

  • Type o (clear partition table)
  • Type p (list partition table - confirm there are none)
  • Type n (new partition)
  • Type p (primary)
  • Type 1 (first partition)
  • Press enter, accepting default value
  • Press enter again, accepting default value
  • Type w (exit, writing changes)
  • Create ext3 filesystem

Code:
cd /tmp
wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/pogoplug/mke2fs
chmod +x mke2fs
./mke2fs -j /dev/sda1
mkdir alarm
mount /dev/sda1 alarm

  • Download and install Arch Linux ARM:

Code:
cd alarm
wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM-armv5te-latest.tar.gz
tar -xzvf ArchLinuxARM-armv5te-latest.tar.gz  # This will take a long time
rm ArchLinuxARM-armv5te-latest.tar.gz
sync  # Takes a while if you are using a flash drive

  • Unmount Drive:
Code:
cd ..
umount alarm

  • Install U-boot bootloader and reboot

Code:
cd /tmp
wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ppv4/ppv4-install.sh
chmod +x ppv4-install.sh
./ppv4-install.sh
/sbin/reboot

Step 2 - Install wget, screen, and base-devel

  • Wait for pogoplug to restart, then ssh in (check router again - it's now called "alarm", not "pogoplug mobile") with user/pass root
  • Install the following packages with pacman (it will ask you y or n questions)

Code:
pacman -S wget
pacman -Syu base-devel
pacman -S screen

Step 3 - libusb/cgminer

Code:
cd /home
mkdir miner
cd miner
mkdir cgminer
cd cgminer
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/cgminer-3.4.0.tar.bz2
tar xvjf cgminer-3.4.0.tar.bz2
cd cgminer-3.4.0
mkdir libusb
cd libusb
wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/libusb/files/libusb-1.0/libusb-1.0.16-rc10/libusb-1.0.16-rc10.tar.bz2
tar xvjf libusb-1.0.16-rc10.tar.bz2
cd libusb-1.0.16-rc10
./configure
make
cd ../..

  • Build cgminer

Code:
CFLAGS="-O2 -Wall -march=native" LIBUSB_CFLAGS="-I./libusb/libusb-1.0.16-rc10/libusb" LIBUSB_LIBS="./libusb/libusb-1.0.16-rc10/libusb/.libs/libusb-1.0.a -ludev" ./configure --enable-icarus
make install

  • turn off pogoplug, Plug in usb hub, plug in usb drive
  • start cgminer - replace with your options

Code:
cgminer -o URL:PORT -u USER -p PASS --lowmem # ONE POOL

OR

Code:
cgminer -o URL1:PORT1 -u USER1 -p PASS1 -o URL2:PORT2 -u USER2 -p PASS2 --lowmem # TWO OR MORE POOLS

  • Plug in Block Erupters (They should appear and start hashing - ensure they're working)
  • Press s for settings
  • Press w for write
  • For file name, type /home/miner/cgminer.conf
  • Press q to quit

Step 4 - Create startup scripts and enable them

  • Switch to the miner directory and start a new file:

Code:
cd /home/miner
nano auto.sh

  • Type the following into nano, then press CTRL+o (to write the file Out) then CTRL+x (to eXit nano):

Code:
#!/bin/sh
screen -dmS miner /home/miner/cgminer/cgminer-3.4.0/cgminer --config /home/miner/cgminer.conf

  • Create service file

Code:
cd /usr/lib/systemd/system
nano cgminer.service

  • Enter the following, then CTRL+o, then CTRL+x:
Code:
[Unit]
Description=Start cgminer

[Service]
User=root
Type=oneshot
ExecStart=/bin/sh /home/miner/auto.sh

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
Enable the service:

  • Then enable the service:
Code:
systemctl enable cgminer.service

  • Finally, change your root password:

Code:
passwd

Results
When you turn the pogoplug on, it will automatically start mining. To see what's up with cgminer, ssh in and type screen -r to reattach the screen session. When you're done, Press CTRL+A then CTRL+D to detach.

Hope this helps at least one person.
