I mean, when we break it down, the issuers or managers orwhat ever you call these PBM founders, are they adding other controls to this market by possibly  colluding with the hardware manufacturers to keep delaying the shipment of the neccessary hardware so as to coincide with the date which would yield the shareholders the lowest amount over the break even point that they can possibly get? Or even more, could some enterprising gent working as a hardware maker have been the 1st to invent this methodology having seen an opportunity to "fleece the sheep twice" in a sense by becoming the 1st person to control this market explicitly by creating the hardware and then selling it as an investment, and even on top, keeping all monies by manipulating the market since they control it totally. Then it became standard market protocol when the competitors discovered this phenomenon and jumped on the bandwagon adopting these methods along the way? Is this a plausible scenario or am I in total tin-foil hat land here? Seemed that way to me from watching all those threads about X company doing this, and then a bit later Y company does a eerily similar sequence of events... From observing these companies, it certainly seems like standard protocol to decieve the investors by promising "1 more week, 2 more weeks!" etc.. and just goading them on until the sham gets to be untenable by all estimates. The gall and greed of these people if this is true... Money is no reason to become a bottom feeding integrity-devoid chiseler Kiss Angry

Significant for what? To get a dividend or to be profitable? To get a (small) dividend for SELLING, the diff jump only needs to be around 5-6%

I was just picking out this part:

that these PBMs are all essentially gussied up ponzies with an extremely slight element of chance based on the infinitesimally small fluctuations of the difficulty factor each week? Sorry if I worded the post like a giant pretzel of fuzzy words, it's just easier for me to wrap my head around when I use abstractions with big words Smiley

'Infinitesimally small' changes won't do much to the values here. I agree that 5-6% isn't a huge amount, I was just saying 'significant' compared to 'infinitesimally small'

I think I meant that the room for significant variance is not there. Im not sure what I meant TBH lol just trying to grasp this whole web of related interactions that seem-- at least on paper-- to have quite a muted variance, yet at face value they are seeing tons of speculation on both sides. Doesn't seem to jive unless one of the groups is being force fed disinformation.

As a player since day 3.. I think the site is fine.. What is 1% house edge? Not much tbh.

@ X 1,000,000 bets it certainly is my freind. But to an individual, you're right logically, however our minds can be manipulated, some moreso than others which is where a cleverly put together hook can contribute greatly

wow, I don't get it, so people just fabricate these issuances out of their fart vapors if they wish? Don't they have to have some backing at all? Whats to stop someone from doing this and then absconding with the principal after a big volume becomes bought into it?

Numbers in slogans can really never  carry any context really, because a slogan by its nature isn't long enough to reveal any context. So this strange fear of incorporating numbers and any preconcieved notions or fears you have about them turning people away, you can assuage right now. What matters in the end is the wording, where the stresses are placed, and the force of that wording with which these elements cumulatively gather to impact the audience in a multitudinous fashion. Creating a dynamite wording for a brands slogan is a work of art I believe and should be respected.

99% player odds doesn't sound good. Reduced House Edge 1%!! Does the trick magnificently from a consumer standpoint IMO... That was what drew me in initially from Satoshi Dice.
That's because SD had already framed the discussion in the "house edge" terms, and in your head, perhaps just subconsciously, you wanted to compare it with SD on their terms. For someone not already accustomed to SD's marketing, what version is demonstrably better at getting them to gamble more? Again, this is why I merely suggested an A/B test. Nothing sinister implied - I'm not identifying the 99% side as being better, I'm questioning the method used to come to the conclusion that 1% is better. The reason I brought it up is that since casinos generally put the larger number on their marketing materials, and they are in the business of convincing people that gambling is a good idea, they probably know what works to reel the largest number of people in. But I don't know how that translates into the world of bitcoinlandia, because the psychology of the players may be different. It may be true, it may not. I have no idea.

Self-reassured,Masculine, Cocksure,Sharp
Timid, Insecure, wispy, Round
These are the first three words I associated with the opposing statements proposed by you and I. I bet you can guess which ones are about which.... That's the power of connotation at work in its most potent. Slogan and marketing teams have an added history of crafted work resulting in thecreation of certain key buzz words that work like a charm in manipulating the  into desire centers of the brain & stoke the viewers impulsiveness to critical highs, keeping them amplified at high levels. The buzz words essentially work in tandem as a key to the pleasure center of the brain. They do this by providing the visualization of those desires when these words are mentioned. Words and their placements have been honed for decades & constantly tinkered with by marketing masters.
Honestly, It has nothing to do with "framing [any] discussion,"  House edge is a colloqiual term around wayyy before bitcoin or satishidice for that matter. You are getting bogged down in the minutae intellectual side, thinking too much. It is more of an animalistic marketing, i.e. to the reptilian brain which is why that line you proposed is not meshing as well as the line I said. I am marketing towards the base instinct, impulsiveness when I pit those two phrases against each other. It sets the consumers mind into gear and gets the neurons firing and releasing dopamine towards a visualized big. Ypu mau think this is silly and made up, but there is an absolute science to this that is very well documented. As we have been conditioned by other marketing campaigns for our entire lives to identify these "key terms and phrases", they indulge our fantasies the same way the media stream-of-conscious caters to the same basest segments of our psyche. Now when you say "99% player odds" it sounds limp, weak, round.

Moreover, in a more concrete criticism, I do not know what "player odds refers to. It is vague, and if it remains vague to us here on this discussion, it will undoubtedly be an issue which the layperson either forgets or thinks of as unsure in of itself, thereby associating the brand, aka the site, with that quality in tandem, pairing them hand in hand. A slogan is oft underlooked as a psychological draw, yet it is always the most powerful connection a consumer retains with the brand.  That is why the term" reduced player odds" is the sissy of the 2 it sounds feeble, uncertain, weak, round. " 1% Reduced House Edge" is strong and snappy, a sharp message which delivers the intended effect with no qualms, bravado. No worries that it has 1% contained. The attached numerical denotation is of no consequence, in fact the converse is true because the public sees that dreaded "99%" attached to a product, they immediately throw up their guard and see it as a shill-y advertising ploy because, well that's what it is...  In the end it's all a matter of psychology, linguistics, habituation. Especially with a service as potent to an impulsive consumer, like gambling, when imminent disaster can oft await controlling the fear and supplying the excitement/power through words is like warming up a muscle before a marathon. Keeping a hold on these two commodities is the supreme pole position to a marketer. Just like having 4 aces in every hand of poker you play. Believe me it may seem like overkill but this is how businesses and brands are forged man. Bait for the buyer. This is how the men seperate from the boys in the marketing game.

Boasting .0869 KW/hr if anyone wants me to store their hardware at my home I will only charge a flat 10 dollars a day rate on it..(minus power usage of course) And if you think I got cute and stole it, at least this way you know where it is right!?

In a sea of fake and/or inept mining hardward manufacturers, KNC remains a beacon of hope. The Swedes are well-known for their integrity and this company reiterates this contention!! Long Live KnC!!!! Long Live Sweden!!!! Can't wait until they ship more product at a faster rate which should be very soon my gut tells me.

174  Economy / Scam Accusations / Coinbase looking pretty grim in the customer abuse dept.... on: September 04, 2013, 11:44:26 PM
Many many abhorrent actions have been taken against me by the lovely staff at coinbase. Including this gem: when  I log in today to see how many days I have left til verified, I noticed someone over there has totally reset my verification wait when I was a week away from lvl 2 verification.A Another wierd thing I just now realized was that one of my bank acct infos that I had added when I registered has gone missing, perhaps deleted totally WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT. Isnt that illegal? I can't help but think that that is tampering with a users private account info, no? Oh yea  they also cancelled a "high risk" 1.5 btc deposit from me and I lost a bit in appreciation. Got an email literally a few hrs before it was set to be delivered. If I knew even a day before I could have saved a lot (to me its a lot..) I don't think its a coincidence that with each subsequence dealing I have with them, the experience gets exponentially worse. What do you all think about this company.
175  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: COINBASE.COM STRIKE ME AGAIN!!!! RESETS MY ACCOUNT AFTER 18 days VERIFIED on: September 04, 2013, 11:18:44 PM
Ahh this is rich. It gets better. Every time I try to email them on their site it says" We have not sent your email yet
"
Perhaps one of these articles will help you get your answer..."

Similarly, I got this from them the yesterday with their other message of " Sorry we have not sent your BTC yet, Perhaps one of these sharp sticks in the eye will help you get in line, Douche"
176  Economy / Service Discussion / COINBASE.COM STRIKE ME AGAIN!!!! RESETS MY ACCOUNT AFTER 18 days VERIFIED on: September 04, 2013, 10:58:06 PM
So my whole motivation for ordering from them was the whole, instant deposit/withdrawal service which in theory sounds great. Unfortunately this is not the savior of the bitcoin community that they would let us believe. After a few bad transactions with them recently, one in which I was not informed until a few hours prior to my btc I bought a week prior getting deposited one of the checking account I linked had no funds on it. Which sucks because the coins appreciated at a significant rate and I lost all of that earned appreciation with no notice at all, and I easily could've bought them with my funds in my other acct. So I chalk it up as an L and move on. But today I log in and see this:

"It's been 16 hours since your 1st bitcoin purchase. Come back in 28 days and we will verify your account"

DOUBLEHUHWTFHuh!! I registered over 2 and a half to 3 weeks ago and was on my was to being fully verified, was practically counting the fukking days. I hate these people. Should I cancel my account? I try contacting them, but there is no number I can find to a service dept.

What do you all think? What would you do?
177  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Development]SatoshiRat - a bitcoin game on: September 04, 2013, 02:30:25 PM
Okay, how about if it's a tie, say for 1st, the losing rats leave  field & the 2 tied rats draw close for a fight, like a hockey brawl. You get to have different moves and special finishers. That would be sweet. You can't go wrong with that

179  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTC-TC] Deprived Mining Speculation (DMS) on: September 04, 2013, 11:07:23 AM
This isn't a Ponzi scheme, as the dividends for MINING are paid on schedule out of the SELLING reserves. SELLING is NOT guaranteed to make a profit or to necessarily pay anything out. SELLING is paid a dividend only if the Difficulty increases significantly.

So the flow is like this: funds from people buying SELLING become the MINING dividend which is paid out on schedule.

If the difficulty goes up a lot and the dividend required by MINING is smaller, then that difference is profit for SELLING and becomes a SELLING dividend.

Is this correct?

How does the situation change when you buy a SELLING share from someone whos selling one? Obviously the proceeds of that sale go to the seller instead of MINING dividends.

I am very very fresh to any of this kind of simulation trading/speculation, but from what I gather and observe, he is essentially correct, minus the note that you are right in your own added respect. It seems like his presumption is inherently correct but doesn't incorporate the relative "unknown" rise (or fall) of the difficulty exponential (which we all must realize will likely be somewhere around a +20 to +50% increase). So basically the speculation in this PBM-modeled trading is based on the difficulty factor which is the hitherto driver of the action that provides the incentives for the buyers/sellers to buy/sell the .DPM-Mining and the DPM-Selling instruments each week based on that speculation.  Am I missing something? Is the overarching message here something grander than what I initially preconceived--that these PBMs are all essentially gussied up ponzies with an extremely slight element of chance based on the infinitesimally small fluctuations of the difficulty factor each week? Sorry if I worded the post like a giant pretzel of fuzzy words, it's just easier for me to wrap my head around when I use abstractions with big words Smiley

radiumsoup

But maybe that's just me.
That's actually exactly why I suggested an A/B test - take out the "I think"s and the "maybe that's just me"s and go with what is demonstrably better for encouraging your customers to play (whichever that is.) I honestly don't know which is better. As for the wording for a potential test, maybe "99% player odds" or something. It doesn't have to be mathematically or semantically accurate, you're just doing marketing to get them in the door. You ever go ask for the house rules at a casino? They have them in these thick packets, and they've got all the legalese you'd ever want and more - but they don't give them to you unless you ask, because it's generally known among players what 99% means. You've got all the fine print laid out already - my suggestion is simply that you don't limit your marketing to the same legalese standard. Smiley

99% player odds doesn't sound good. Reduced House Edge 1%!! Does the trick magnificently from a consumer standpoint IMO... That was what drew me in initially from Satoshi Dice. I think the next milestone will be working with blockchain, or perhaps inputs.io to create a sleek intuitive interface such as SD did with Blockchain...That is a big draw at least to me

By the way, is there only that singular way to invest in this site?
