...get a Ledger Nano S[1] or a Trezor[2]. Though they're not 100% open source...

@mjglqw The Trezor firmware is Open Source.

Ledger Nano S has published source for many components, but important pieces are still missing (they have significant challenges because of NDAs on the secure element they use).  Supposedly more will be released this year.

Guess something is interfering with the windows app.

Very likely to be your VPN.
Check ports / general internet access.

6694 D8DE 7BE8 EE56 31BE  D950 2BD5 824B 7F94 70E6
Or
2BD5 824B 7F94 70E6
Or
7F94 70E6

That indicates that you have imported the correct public key belonging to ThomasV

The last option is not secure.  32 bit key ids can easily be faked and have been many times.
Use the full SHA1 fingerprint to verify.
4  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Multiple Qs prompted by the phishing attack re opsec/vulnerability on: April 22, 2019, 07:57:58 PM
Just switch to a hardware wallet and make your life easier.

The malware can't make a Trezor screen tell you lies.

Do it one wallet at a time to ensure the never more than one loaded wallet is exposed at a given time.
5  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum verification on: April 22, 2019, 07:49:26 PM
Yep, everything is correct with this.
Disregard the "warning" -- gpg has a terrible UI.
6  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Safest way to go from paper wallets to Trezor on: April 22, 2019, 06:06:20 PM
Since you say it is a lot of bitcoin...

Electrum is the way to go.  Not Mycelium or another mobile wallet.

Here is a very high-level overview of the steps:

Creating the sweep transaction (online)

  • Setup the hardware wallet (backup the seed, etc)
  • Record the hardware wallet address it generated.
  • Load the paper wallet address into an online version of Electrum (Keep the private key away from that computer, just the ADDRESS)
  • Create a tx spending from the paper wallet address to the hardware wallet address.
  • Save the tx as a file to a USB stick.

Signing the transaction (offline)

  • Create a secure TailsOS on a second USB stick and boot into it. (make sure to select Networking => Offline from the welcome screen)
  • Load Electrum (it is pre-installed)
  • Create a new wallet from your private key (type the whole thing)
  • Import the unsigned tx and sign it with your private key
  • Save the signed transaction as a file back to the USB stick

Broadcast the signed transaction (online)

  • Rebot back to your online system
  • Load the signed transaction into Electrum
  • Broadcast it

And another one to make the developers rich. People are really fed up with coins that have an automatic coinbase transaction split for developers. Why don't you just prove your capabilities and then raise money afterwards?

That sounds a lot harder than just paying themselves part of every block :-)
As long as users / investors don't care, this kind of crap will continue.

Did you ever get this resolved?

$100 / XMR yesterday... The only cryptocurrency you can buy on major exchanges with "privacy by default"... Hmmm...

Hi, whatever happened to this proposal?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monaco Visa ICO - tomorrow - latest scam? on: May 21, 2017, 04:33:32 PM
Could not find a listing for Monaco Technology GmbH
https://www.moneyhouse.ch/de/search?q=Monaco%20Technology&status=1&tab=companies

The news article claims they are in Zug, Switzerland, so they should be listed above AFAIK.

I'd avoid until you have concrete evidence this is not a scam.
12  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: May 19, 2017, 09:39:37 PM
Hi Scheede

... neither my existing account nor her account will be suspended/closed/effected in any way by working with both accounts from the same laptop/IP.

Don't worry, Kraken doesn't block you or cause any problems for having two accounts logged in with same public IP.
I've done this with my partner many times.
You can even use the same computer if you want, but use separate profiles in Chrome or different browsers.

13  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Beware ! Scam ! spectrocoin.com ! Stay away from Spectrocoin ! Shady Company. on: May 01, 2017, 03:17:17 PM
both you guys are shady  Roll Eyes

+1 to this!

After yelling scam and posting all the screenshots, we then learn that OP created "180 cards with different and fake names".
He kinda forgot to mention that part... eh?
That is definitely scammy behavior and would cause fraud alerts and account freeze at any reasonable company.

Hi there, I'm enthusiastic about the idea, but after digging in a little more, I have some concerns about security / development of this project...

  • The wallets page does not seem to mention Open Source, GitHub, compiling yourself, etc.  I found the source code on GitHub, but it hasn't been touched for almost a year.
  • The website does not use https, so literally everything users see / download there could be replaced by a MITM effortlessly.
  • The Android wallet is not on Google Play.  Instead it is just an APK file to download from the website (see item above).
  • Did not find GPG keys or digests for the files, so installing any of these is really dangerous (especially for anyone who might have another cryptocurrency on the same system like people here).
  • The Linux binary on the website has no file extension.  Not a big deal, but makes me wonder if anyone has ever downloaded and used it.

I have some questions about the economics / distribution, but need to read & think more.  :-)
15  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mycelium's "crowdsale": basically a donation, not an investment by any means on: May 03, 2016, 01:57:31 PM
How is this setup any different than Ethereum, Lisk, or Waves ICO's ?

Ethereum was selling ETH tokens used to pay for smart contracts on the platform.  It's true that the platform wasn't built till later, but Vitalik Buterin had a fantastic reputation for contributing to the Bitcoin community and for his technical competence.  If someone believed that Ethereum would later become a success, then the value of ETH would rise accordingly as the "fuel" of the platform.

These "Mycelium tokens" have no use outside of speculation/donation.  There is little reason to think the wallet will make a profit, but even if it does, there is no reason for the value of these tokens to rise accordingly.  If there was a direct tie between profits and dividends, then there might be a thin thread connecting the two, but I didn't see any.

Good luck with that if you can't even spell "Cryptsy".
17  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: CoinJoin: Bitcoin privacy for the real world on: November 16, 2015, 01:22:50 AM
+1 for JoinMarket (and perhaps TailsJoin getting a small percentage as well)

Would love to have gmaxwell take a look at the implementation and provide feedback.
18  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Let There Be Dark! Bitcoin Dark Wallet on: February 23, 2014, 11:44:05 AM
Is there a site/blog (other than darkwallet.unsystem.net) where we can monitor the progress?

Watching the code commits (https://github.com/darkwallet/darkwallet) seems to be the best way... the devs are not doing a good job on news updates and such.  But there is progress as you can see  :-)

CHF data since May 19, it's probably time to take it off the site...
That's sad... but be aware that CHF is not the only one, I see several other currencies that are not updated:
CNY, DKK, HKD, SEK,etc...
20  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Real Time Charting, Order Book, and Time & Sales on: November 01, 2013, 03:27:44 AM
When I set the currency to CHF, I only get chart data up till: 2013-05-19 22:00:00 - nothing more recent.
Checked in Firefox and Chrome on WinXP.
Anyone else seeing this?
