1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Card counting in black jack on: September 07, 2020, 12:34:11 PM
Just as a side note: When walking up to a blackjack table, always read what is on the felt. Card counting may lower the house advantage by -1% vs. playing with the optimal basic strategy will result in a house edge of .46%.

However, something as simple as "Blackjack pays 6/5" plus perfect strategy will set the house edge at 1.82%. That's 4 times as much loss per hour as a "Blackjack pays 3/2". Add in other rule changes like "Dealer must hit soft 17" and "double on 10/11 only" will raise the house edge to 2.32%. This will swamp even card counting.

This is why those tables are usually the ones with fake strippers on poles next to them. Those strippers are powered by money, and all the lights/etc are run on money as well. Even on a straight table you're talking a profit of $50 an hour (before taxes) with $100 base bets and a $10,000 stash to the table. Worth it? Eh.....

If I want to go to casinos and have "fun" or hang around with people I will play don't pass/don't come on craps with a per roll house edge of .40%. Plus it keeps the table and the casino honest, as loading the dice will seriously affect the payouts for the donts. (This is why craps is a game that doesn't tolerate house cheating, if the house cheats then the donts will rob them blind) But yes, you will lose over time because those lights won't pay for themselves....

Your mileage may vary.....

A bit to see surprised I made lightfoot's list, but hey, people gotta do what they gotta do. Don't have any issues with the fellow at all.
Not at all Bob. I think there was a time you were flaming a bit and I tossed you on to quiet stuff down. Lately when you post I just read it (like now), I'll update. :-)

Money wont change the essence of the person, at best/worst it will amplify it.

If someone is already an asshole, in all likelihood they just become a rich asshole.

(that was quote I heard on here pre-2013 btw)
Indeed. People go on about how "power corrupts" but to be honest,

"power reveals".

It simply reveals the kind of person that was always there, doesn't change anything about them.

Something to always keep in mind.

1. Make some of your biggest dreams come true.
2. Otherwise continue to live your life "normal"*

*maybe to new living standards, though.

I'd get some land, a stable and some horses, a small skatepark and independent energy source(s) for my home, maybe a foreign place for holiday and run/hide purposes.
No supercar(s), no castles, no seasteads, no bling, no hos, no blow. Wait... a garden of weeden, maybe. yeah, i guess  Grin

I think one thing that sinks lottery winners is that it the total cost of ownership of any item far exceeds the mere purchase price. Big houses cost a lot of money over time for upkeep/maintenance, as do Lambos. Rich people budget for this, flash rich people buy big houses for their family members then start getting hit up for repairs, maintenance, etc. Or they buy a "business" that needs a lot of capital that you shovel in because.... well you bought it.

Something to think about.

The new CCTV cameras should stop the fucking signs getting stolen.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fucking,_Austria

Quote
In July 2009, it was announced that the village would install CCTV cameras in an attempt to deter summertime tourists from filming themselves having sexual intercourse in front of the Fucking signs.
More likely they will monetize the resulting porn videos and use the money to replace the signs.

I won't name names, but some of you that post here claim to be laid-back open-minded Libertarians, but are really Socialist-damn-near-communists in sheep's clothing. Some of you have your heads so far up the asses of your respective nanny-state governments, that one begs to question why you are even involved with Bitcoin in the first place.  Angry

Yeah and some of us are Nazi statist whack off to armies singing Rammstein tunes reality ignoring suckshits. But we all have one thing in common: We all have and love bitcoins, and that brings us all together in blissful harmony.

Or something like that. When it hit 500k a coin I think each of us should buy a black helicopter and fly it out to the desert in the southwest. Look for the huge burning bonfire and set your craft down in a circle around it. I'll be there roasting weenies and shitcoins and we will all join in singing the same song even though none of us knew the words or melody before we touched down....

Might happen sooner than you think.

Bob's like the third ragequit I have seen lately in a number of widely different forums. Is everyone just starting to go fucking insane from this Covid and election season?

If so I think we should all commit to checking in this time next year and see how we are. Either we'll be in fucking paradise with hookers & blow or digging ourselves out from under lava flows from the hyper-volcanoes but either way we'll probably be a lot less stressed about things.

Two tasty pizzas :-)

Even though life is good in these JJG-landia parts, I have not quite gotten to the level of abundance to either treat guests or have confidence to dish out cash/food advances.

Mmmm.... I know which meal I would prefer....

Gotta be more than 2 pizzas, Searing. I have just set the floor market for Fujicoin :-)

Well, it took ONE FRIGGING YEAR of my asking what my 10 million is worth....at least you made a 'floor' on such for 2 Pizza price.

Brad

So what did the stash finally sell for?

My personal favorite is WTC7 hitting the ground at freefall speed. After 9/11 we were called conspiracy theorists for more than a decade before supposed logic started to creep in. Still, ask someone how that day happened and I bet you get some jihad box cutter story, flight manuals and recovered passports.  Mistrust of government and powerful elites (they) is learned.

https://www.ktva.com/story/41015153/fire-did-not-cause-world-trade-center-building-7-collapse-uaf-study-suggests

Yep, over 3,000 architects and engineers ran hundreds of computer simulations, but could not replicate what the MSM/ U.S. govt. claims happened to WTC7.

Hm. Ok, one college report, not published in any scientific or engineering journal, not peer reviewed.

Nifty!

I will however download and read the whole fucking thing because I'm on vacation.

Edit: Technically it was edited, having two chosen people analyze the result is not peer review. Of the authors, one was a adjunct professor, one was a bridge engineer, and the third was a PE and SE (Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer) but I don't see any of them having specific expertise on high rises. Note: I am not an engineer, thus I cannot by myself vouch for the veracity of this paper. However the people writing it might not be fully versed in high rise building construction or design. Nor are the editors/"reviewers".

And it was paid for by a group with a specific bias on the outcome. Then again you could say NIST is simply an organ of the State....

Yeah, after I saw the exceptional damage done to it when those pictures from that buried photographer came out you could see how the damn things was basically blown apart after the towers fell. Few hours later it just collapsed.

Sad day.

Just signed in and checked value during a meeting. The big smile on my face was noticeable, need to work on that....

But I wonder what value would make me say "fuck this, I'm outta here!!!!" in the middle of a conference. Hm....

regarding your job: fuck it. imagine how relaxed you can be when searching for another job considering your btc stash compared to a no coiner losing their job.

keep going!

Yup. This is one of the reasons bitcoin is so great: It's a cushion to give you both options and time when a problem strikes. Glad you have it, and glad you can plan your next moves without having to panic.

Oddly enough this is what prepper gear *should* be for. It's not so you can live alone in a bunker eating crappy beans and MRE's, a small amount gives you options in a disaster. Options that can enhance survival by reducing foraging in the initial aftermath or freaking out.

I don't get it how people just accept this kind of bullshit as a normal thing...

::sigh::. It is.

It ain't right, mind you, but it's perfectly normal.
The key to remember is that it's not your money and it never was.

Bitcoin... is different.
