1  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [NOW AVAILABLE] BTChip / Ledger HW1 : Bitcoin Hardware Wallet in a USB smartcard on: March 11, 2017, 01:00:06 AM
I've been having this problem for several versions now. I can't use Electrum with my HW.1 at all.

2  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Best client for a Ledger HW.1? on: December 18, 2016, 07:19:07 PM
I have a Ledger HW.1. As I see it there are 3 desktop clients that support the HW.1. I see The Chrome app, Electrum and GreenAddress. Which one do *YOU* recommend and why? I'm curious about which one people think is the best and their reasoning behind it.

Thanks!

3  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed Parent? on: October 26, 2016, 02:54:16 PM
I have a transaction in my Electrum log that's marked as "Unconfirmed Parent". What is this should I do anything about it?

Thanks!

AFAIK unconfirmed parent mean that you spent or sent the coin from which the transaction which it came from is still unconfirmed (the incoming transaction in your wallet. Your outgoing transaction will be confirmed next once that incoming transaction is confirmed. Still it depends on the fee on how long it will take to be confirmed.

Thanks! I guess it's just a matter of "hurry up and wait" Smiley I'm aware the blockchain is severely backlogged at the moment.

5  Bitcoin / Electrum / How to use Replaceable Fee? on: October 26, 2016, 12:42:42 PM
I'm running Electrum 2.7.11 on Windows 7 with a Ledger HW.1 hardware wallet.

I see that when you send BTC with Electrum that you have the option to mark the transaction to support a "replaceable fee". The help box says that you can resend the transaction with a higher fee in the event that the original transaction fee is too low.

How exactly does one use this feature under Electrum? I understand what a "replaceable fee" is and why you would choose to use it. I'm specifically asking what the steps would be with Electrum to "re-start" a transaction?

Can someone provide a "cookbook" example on how to use this feature?

Thanks!

6  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 2.7.0 on: October 04, 2016, 04:40:26 PM
I'm using 2.7.0 under Windows 7 Home Edition with a Ledger HW.1. Whenever I try to send BTC using my HW.1 Wallet I get the error Exception: Invalid Status 6985. I can reproduce the error every time.

7  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Ledger Nano with Electrum on: September 06, 2016, 08:51:48 AM
Thanks a lot, this makes a few things clear for me.

I wish I could use the same wallet on the phone and use somehow the benefits of the ledger to protect it

Like the other member posting along with you I have no direct experience with a Ledger.  I do with a Trezor, which of course is another hardware wallet.  Using this model you can easily work with a "phone" and a Trezor using MyCellium.  Very fast and safe as can be.  Then you can still use the Trezor with Electrum on your home computer.  Versatile and safe as can be.  It would surprise me some if Ledger did not have the same option.  In both applications the private key is never revealed to a computer or phone, not ever.

That functionality exists! I use Electrum with my Nano on my PC and also use Mycelium with my Nano on my Android device. It works quite well!

It might help if you gave us a little information. What site? What wallet? What OS?

9  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: August 26, 2016, 06:33:43 PM
CoolWallet has some interesting features but is priced at $119. You can get a Trezor for $99 or a Ledger Nano S for $65. The CoolWallet devs need to make a case, explain why someone in the market should pay more for a CoolWallet. Also the next gen hardware wallets like Trezor 2 and Ledger Blue will be coming out late this year or first quarter 2017. People who buy hardware wallets tend to buy from companies who have been around a few years with proven products.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not saying that CoolWallet is good or bad. My issue is people that do drive-by posts saying that something is the "best" with no other reasoning or supportive documentation behind it. Then... You click on the link and it's a referral link to the product. I'd like to say "Duff beer is the best" and then put in a referral link to "Duff Beer" but I don't. If someone says something is "the best, most secure, etc" I'd like to know why they think so.
10  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: OVERVIEW: BITCOIN HARDWARE WALLETS █████████████████ Secure your Coins on: August 26, 2016, 10:12:04 AM
CoolWallet is by far the most convenient and secure hardware wallet.
It is now available on: https://coolbitx.com/coolwallet/product.html

What leads you to this conclusion? ALL of the hardware wallets are secure! Please explain why you think Coolwallet is the *MOST* secure?

Or are you just an advertising shill?

11  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Blender, anonymous bitcoin mixer on: August 25, 2016, 08:11:44 AM

According to that website my mixer service is a scam because i once created a wordpress page?

The wordpress page is just a post i made to describe how to access Bitcoin Blender over Tor, so if people google for Bitcoin Blender they will hopefully see this thread here on bitcointalk or that wordpress page and find their way to the correct site instead of a phishing site.

12  Bitcoin / Mycelium / Re: Mycelium Bitcoin Wallet on: August 04, 2016, 10:50:26 AM
Oh I see. Hardware wallets are dedicated device. Its purposes is to keep the virtual wallet secure by limiting the possibilities of system vulnerabilities thanks to a minimalistic system …

Also read up on the true hardware wallets that work with Mycelium. I like my Trezor, for example, but there are at least two more hardware wallet types that work with Mycelium and that can keep even large bitcoin amounts safe while still allowing transactions with them.

My Ledger HW.1 works great with a old Samsung S II. It's the perfect portable hardware wallet.

13  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Windows gadget which displays BTC and currency amounts on: July 30, 2016, 08:54:50 AM
is this just connecting to the sites like a normal web browser- port 80 http connection?
(wondering from a security perspective as I might try to connect at work behind a strict firewall that may not allow all traffic out.)

Also I think having it update once every one to five minutes is probably fine.
Unless you are doing real-time trading the price of BTC moving over five minutes is probably not that much to cause any issues.

The gadget is using Internet Explorer in the background, with all your current IE proxy and other settings, so it should work for any URL that is not blocked by your company firewall. Depending on exchange, this is usually either http (port 80) or https (port 443) GET connection, which are usually enabled by default unless specifically blocked by your network administrator. If you can access URL in browser, gadget will also be able to access it.

And you're correct, by default gadget updates every 10 minutes (mining defaults) which is enough for non-traders, and if you choose trading setup it will update once every minute, which can be changed to less. Exchanges usually have minimum period between requests that you should respect while setting up update frequency.

Thanks again! I LOVE this widget!
14  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin Windows gadget which displays BTC and currency amounts on: July 29, 2016, 11:55:07 AM
Does anyone have an example of how to get the gadget to work with BTC-USD on bitcoinaverage.com? I don't understand their API  Cry
15  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 2.0 release on: July 20, 2016, 07:01:18 AM
I posted a fix to this problem a while back. Just rename the executable to "electrum.exe" and the error you see will go away.

Footnote: Next time you may want to try the excellent search feature that Bitcointalk provides to look for a solution to your problem. Many time the solution is out there if you just take the time to look for it.

16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Timeout on un-confirmed transactions? on: July 01, 2016, 01:23:24 PM
Wow!! That's a fantastic explanation!! Thank you! You have increased my understanding of how the process works a thousand-fold!! My hat is off to you sir!

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Timeout on un-confirmed transactions? on: July 01, 2016, 12:58:35 PM
As I understand it, if a transaction sits on the blockchain for long enough without confirmations it will time out and be returned to the sending address? Am I correct in this assumption? If so, what is the length of time a transaction needs to sit without confirmations before it is returned to the sender?

18  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: <Feature Request> on: March 23, 2016, 08:40:41 AM
I've run into this problem myself. I vote for this to be a new option too!

There is an easy workaround, but i do agree that it would be a nice feature to make electrum even nicer Smiley
+1 vote (in case ThomasV is taking votes offcourse)

Just add a feature request to /electrum github, i dont have a github account, so any of you guys should do it please.

Request created! https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/1730

20  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Registering Electrum as default URI handler? on: March 23, 2016, 07:12:43 AM
Hmmmm, strange. It should work for Chrome as well. I'll look into it.

EDIT: It seems to be a Chrome issue: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=560809 I'll see if I can work around it or not. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Oh please don't apologize at all! The fact that the issue is being addressed is fantastic! I'd be more than happy to test any changes for you. Please let me know if I can be of assistance. BTW running Windoze 7 here.
