Any plans to be able to fund your account with a debit or credit card? (can any exchange do this?)

Grant,
Credit and Debit card purchases can be canceled for up to 180 days.  In the early days of Bitcoin some scammers bought Bitcoins and then called their card company to cancel the charges/payment.  That is why all exchanges will be very skeptical to accept cards (same with PayPal).

In order to fund your account, you have to use a non-reversible source.  Dwolla is backed by a credit-union in Iowa, so it has become the source of choice for most.

Hope this helps,
     Keyur

That's understandable, but a company (and I must say you have the most valid-looking exchange) should be able to deal with that. People are using bitcoins to ship things, and even though you can't reverse the payment the person may not ship the items. So in my mind that counts on trust too.

Dwolla doesn't accept debit/credit either.

Grant - agreed.  I believe this can be part of the Bitcoin companies growing-up process!  We will certainly look into options to offer more traditional payment modes as we progress.

Thank you,
      Keyur

We are also the first Bitcoin platform to bring advanced features like Margin Trading and Short-selling, and have several more exciting and innovative features in pipeline.

I have some questions about your nonexistant margin and short selling trading capabilities.  I am not normally a fan of vaporware, but consider these features important and wish to draw out the details.

In your FAQ you describe the offering as liquidation of a margined position upon a 25% drop.  Am I correct in assuming that this is a 25% drop in BTC/USD from the opening position?  What notification can I expect to receive upon position liquidation (and what timeliness guarantee) so that I can reestablish my short for an additional 2%?

random_cat

RC,
Thank you checking us out!  These features were available for testing during our two-week trial period on testnet, so they are certainly not vaporware.  We will enable them on livenet when volume improves above a certain point; at low volume they are hard to implement.

You will receive email and text message notifications at 15% and 20% drops, and the trade will be liquidated at 25% drop.  Timeliness guarantees are not implied in this, just like your stock broker.  You can read a little more about this in "Margin Calls and how to avoid them" FAQ section.  Hope this helps!

Thank you,
     Keyur

On a side note, Camp BX is the only exchange that supports both Market and Limit prices.  As you start trading more, you will find this feature indispensable.

I like CampBX (see my sig!) but this is not nec. true. VirWox for example offers bother market and limit orders.

Also can a mod move this out of newbies section, especially if this is to become the official CampBX Q&A thread?

LG,
Thank you for pointing out the VirWox feature: I was not aware of it, so have edited the post to correct it.

The intent of this thread was to keep it more of a general Q&A, so hopefully we can keep the discussion going here in this forum.

Thank you,

Just decided to give you a shot and my first comment is that the dwolla transfer only took  few minutes.

You made me do the arithmetic which is a petty negative on a buy order.

I truly do not understand what is so hard of allowing me to put in the amount of USD that I want to spend and tell you at what price and *you* calculate the USD*Price-comission= #btc in order.

Let's see how it goes!

Thank you for trying us out Smalleyster - We are already working on a "Spend X-Amount" type of order that you mentioned.  Stay tuned for an announcement soon!

165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Camp BX USA: Ask-Us-Anything Thread on: July 23, 2011, 01:38:15 AM
I'm about to buy some BTC   what is "quick buy" - also, how do withdraw work with you guys?

Thanks!

BBit,
Quick Buy means that you specify a price, and we try to find a matching or BETTER price.  In trading terminology, this is considered a Limit Price order.   I would recommend skimming through this SEC Trading Basics guide: http://www.sec.gov/investor/alerts/trading101basics.pdf

On a side note, Camp BX also supports both Market and Limit prices.  As you start trading more, you will find this feature indispensable.

Withdrawal is standard procedure: You send a withdrawal request, and we send the money to your Dwolla account.  We do not charge any fees for withdrawal, but Dwolla charges 25 cents.

Hope this helps,
     Keyur

Hi everyone,

Camp BX is a platform where you can buy and sell Bitcoins for US Dollars in real-time.  We are an Atlanta - USA based company, and we are starting this thread with an intent to make our entire team's knowledge-base available to the newbie community.  If you have questions about trading, security, or technology behind Bitcoins or Camp BX then ask us here!

A little about us:
Camp BX platform was designed from the ground up with stability and security as top priorities, and we became the first Bitcoin website to obtain Payment Card Industry (PCI) certification and the McAfee Secure seal of confidence on June 28th, 2011.

For new traders we provide a "Quick Buy" or "Quick Sell" option.  Any buy or sell order that you place is matched against a database of other orders, and if a perfect match is found, a Bitcoin-to-USD trade is executed instantly. If there are no matching orders at the price you specified, then your order can remain open for up to 31 days. To maintain fairness in trading, we have taken a purely-platform approach and Camp BX is never a counter-party to any trade.

We are also the first Bitcoin platform to bring advanced features like Margin Trading and Short-selling, and have several more exciting and innovative features in pipeline.

There are no fees required to open a Camp BX account, so we encourage you to sign-up and try us out!

Thank you,

Hi everyone,
If you guys are interested in some trading tools, I can point out a few that are already available to Camp BX users (and couple other exchanges as well).

1) SierraChart (www.SierraChart.com):
A free plugin from Slush allows you to take Camp BX historic data and feed it into SierraChart Technical Analysis tool.

If you are not familiar with SierraChart, it is a desktop application that provides a professional Trading, Real-time and Historical Charting, and Technical Analysis platform for the financial markets. Despite a somewhat steep learning curve, it is very strong tool for professional technical analysis.

Steps to install and configure SierraChart for Camp BX:
  • Download and install SierraChart software using default settings and data directory.
  • Download SierraChartfeed.exe for bitcoin markets.
  • Start the feed by typing "sierrachartfeed.exe -s cbxUSD" at the command prompt.
(Help on all parameters can be obtained by typing "sierrachartfeed.exe --help" at the command prompt.)
  • Launch SierraChart software
  • Go to File Menu->New/Open Intraday Chart and select cbxUSD.scid
  • Customize your view using F5 (chart settings) and F6 (analysis/studies) menus.
  • That's it!

If you like the feed plugin, please consider making a donation at Slush's Bitcoin address 1FNTpsLm8Mitdd99YC1tHSyN2dVMdQiWYo

2) PHP Library for Camp BX:
The Camp BX API PHP client library is implements all API calls for Camp BX. The author of this library is BTCHash of SourceWerks LLC , and library is an open-source effort available under the GPLv3 license.

The library, PHP example code, and documentation are available at this link:
https://bitbucket.org/brandonbeasley/campbx-php/overview

If you like the library, please consider making a donation towards Brandon's open-source efforts at Bitcoin address 1J9XU1C4yfcQhAbRHWxokv16HYLLQVMp5X

3) DIY:
If you want to write custom code, please consider our library which provides some advanced functionality for trading:

Hope this helps and please feel free to ask questions!

170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dwolla growth email - success and relation to Bitcoin? on: July 22, 2011, 03:58:47 AM
We got in June a total of $6,824,168.53 of funds moving around (16640 transactions in both deposits and withdraws) over Dwolla, equivalent of $227,472.28 per day, or $1,592,305.99 per week. Should be noted that the site was closed on June 20th, so in reality amount per day/week is higher.

This is amazing information - thank you for sharing, Mark.  Based on our conversations with Dwolla, we knew Bitcoin is big for them. Now we have the numbers about exactly how big it is.

We should work with Dwolla to lobby for Bitcoin.  Sooner or later we are going need a lobbyist in Washington DC, and Dwolla along with exchanges/platforms can be a major contributor towards this effort.

I have created a PHP library for CampBX here:

https://bitbucket.org/brandonbeasley/campbx-php

Thank you very much Brandon - I am looking forward to installing the lib and trying it out!   This will be a huge help for people looking to kick-start their trading algos.

Do you mind if we provide a description and a link to your library on Camp BX?

Thank you,

172  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Camp BX API is Live! on: July 21, 2011, 07:13:09 PM
I didn't see user-to-user trades in the API:  https://www.campbx.com/api.php
Can you point them out to me?

Jim,
The trades can be executed through this API call:

https://CampBX.com/api/tradeenter.php POST: user=USERNAME pass=PASSWORD TradeMode=QuickBuy Quantity=DECIMAL Price=DECIMAL

OR

https://CampBX.com/api/tradeenter.php POST: user=USERNAME pass=PASSWORD TradeMode=QuickSell Quantity=DECIMAL Price=DECIMAL

Details available at:
https://campbx.com/api.php

If you have a specific idea to build a service or business, PM me with details.  We will be happy to work with you to make additional API calls available for interfacing with Camp BX.

Thank you,
      Keyur

Keyur,

I know you've been asked this question before, but I was wondering if we could get an update. Has CampBX been working with Bitcoin Watch to get the ticker and charts up on their site? I think doing so would certainly drive more traffic to your exchange.

Keep up all the good work, and love the quick response to community feedback!

Yes DGWW - we were able to get listed on Bitcoin Watch and Bitcoin Charts ahead of schedule!  Our symbol there is cbxUSD.

We are also reaching out a few other community websites and exploring opportunities for integration.

Thank you again,
     Keyur
174  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MtGox/TradeHill SierraChart bridge - Realtime Bitcoin charts on: July 21, 2011, 04:39:25 PM
Hi Everyone,
Camp BX API has gone live today, and we will love a chance to work with the community to set up a Sierra charts bridge.

Hello, do you offer some websocket interface? HTTP polling is highly ineffective way - it makes delayed updates for users and unnecessary load for your server. If you implement some realtime interface, I'll consider to implement it.

However it is already possible to chart CampBX in Sierrachart, by using "sierrachart.exe -s cbxUSD" (data are downloaded from bitcoincharts.com)

Slush,
Agreed - we are working to publish advanced API in production on Friday, and then the dev team can start exploring websockets.

Firefox 5 was shipping with websockets disabled, but finally FF6 and other browsers are shipping with the feature enabled.  This will definitely boost the user base in near future.

Thank you,
     Keyur

Yeah, I also think the rounding is annoying. I'm an all-or-nothing kind of trader   Smiley

On a related note, I still don't see the account balance displayed everywhere when I'm logged in. That's crucial. Shouldn't be a hard change to make.

I'll be coming back to CampBX as soon as my free trades on Mt Gox expire...

Thank you NM - we will make the change to display balance on every page alongside the ticker.  Should be pushed out to production server in a day or two.

Look forward to having you back!

176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Camp BX API is Live! on: July 21, 2011, 04:25:27 PM
Keyur,

Can you make the send btc api call instant?  If a campbx user sends coins to another campbx user can you make it so the receiver gets them instantly?  This is important for buying things so the buyer and seller doesn't have to wait for the next block.

Jim

Jim,
CampBX user-to-user trades have instant BTC transfers.  You will have the BTC available in your account as soon as the Buy trade is executed, without the need to wait for confirmations.

Thank you,
     Keyur

PS: Does this answer your question?  Please elaborate if it doesn't - I can run it by our devs.
177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Camp BX API is Live! on: July 21, 2011, 02:43:54 AM
On an unrelated note, what's the deal with the rounding? I had 5.99 BTC in my account, but you wouldn't let me trade that. I had to dig up a bitcent somewhere... Tongue

Rounding was an attempt at keeping the order book clean of strange fractions.  If one more user points it out, we will have to get rid of the rounding ;-)

Great work!

How about an API call to get a Bitcoin address for depositing BTC?

Error,
We are already working on this call - the objective is to prevent attack similar to what Mt.Gox experienced few weeks back: someone brute-forced this call and filled up the wallet with empty addresses.

We are trying to find a solution that gives you a fresh addresses, but at the same time cannot be brute-forced.

Thank you,
      Keyur

179  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What's the Best Trading Exchange for you: Mt Gox, TH, or CampBX? on: July 21, 2011, 01:06:17 AM
CampBX is out for me because it has a dark pool. We've already beaten that subject to death in other threads...  I am sure the pump&dumpers, and dark-pool free-market hypocrites will have a great time there, once it gets more volume... Cheesy

Imanikin,
Don't let Dark Pools put you off, because we have also provided a tool to probe dark pools: the Fill-Or-Kill option.

If you suspect a dark pool at a price level, execute a tiny FOK order at that price and you will have your answer!

We have chosen to provide more building-blocks that you can use when building a strategy or a bot.  The better strategy will always win in the medium-to-long term, dark pool or not.

Hope this helps,
      Keyur

180  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Advanced Trading API Poll - FOK / AON / Stoploss on: July 21, 2011, 12:58:37 AM
I have a quick comment concerning security:

It would be very nice to implement an API key system similar to the one at MtGox so that the user may access the exchange through third-party software without entrusting them with his username & password.

A comment about convenience:

I would also love to see JSONP enabled for the public data to allow cross-domain calls through AJAX. Enabling JSONP takes literally one line of php to do, and it eliminates the need to poll from the server.

Clark,
Good ideas - I have shared them with the team and will keep you posted as we finalize.

By the way, great website you have put together - installed FF6 especially to view it!

Thank you,
       Keyur
