843  Other / Off-topic / Re: Invest in silver or not? on: July 13, 2014, 12:30:33 PM
silver is an excellent investment

make sure you buy 'physicsl' silver , i recommend buying what is called junk silver

american and other countries coins in years past  contained silver,

check it out,  in the united states coins made 1964  and before are 90% silver

these can be purchased many places , often in situations where you don't have to give your id or social security number

don't get me wrong gold is probably a good investment but expensive

someone once told me if you invest in gold and have to leave the country you can carry everything in one bag where with silver you can't do it

when the dollar collapses things like physical silver (not certificates from your broker) and bitcoin may keep you alive

word to the wise

track value of old money and learn the percentages and going rates at a website like this

http://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html

do some research about the hunt brothers and how todays silver price is manipulated by being kept low from 'paper trading'

it appears to me to be true.

847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]XtraCoin[CX] - SHA256 PoW/PoS - 1% PREMINE/ NO IPO on: July 12, 2014, 04:02:02 AM
checking back now, i see this is abandoned by the developers,

difficulty is way low, maybe someone needs to 'take it over' and revivie it Huh

any thoughts from anyone on this,

i would need to look over the source --- if the developers are still active i will not make a move ---

also no guarantee from me I will take it on, just throwing this out here on a whim.
848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PMP] PreminePlus Crypto Quiz Round #1 ~ Rewards! on: July 12, 2014, 01:02:23 AM
so this amounts to a giveaway (i thought that against the rules) in disguise as a 'quiz' ?
849  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Primecoin - why no clones? on: July 12, 2014, 12:59:53 AM
sorry but i cannot agree,

prime coin has broken some world records

that is cool however cunningham chains have few known applications or use outside of the study of number theory

i guess it is possible there would be a use for them in the future however that is not certain and the benefit to anyone

mankind, miners, ect... is really zero compared with almost any other proof of work used in a coin that discoveres nothing

I would suggest you check out riecoin, it is by far better designed than primecoin and a more likely to offer some small contribution of scientific value through it's proof of work,

To the entire world civilization!

how would this be more useful ?

to whom ?

I hope primecoin will survive in the long term! We need more clone! Primecoin clone POS can be nice.

If we see it one day, ASIC for primecoin would be much more useful than asic for scrypt, X11, X13, or any other useless algo...
850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BLC] Blakecoin Blake-256 for GPU/FPGA With Merged Mined Pools 1.8TH/s+ Net on: July 12, 2014, 12:52:16 AM
i experience this too

from time to time,

i run a few non standard items like no script + such

best suggestion is instead of going to log in page direct reload the pool home page, navigate to mining page and then log in

it hardly ever happens when I do it that way.....  thanks for mining !

Why does all four merged mining pools keep giving me the "Token expired" during user registration?...
Tried on both firefox and chrome.
851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] ReikiCoin - Heals and cures, SHA 256 POS 101g ssl implemented on: July 12, 2014, 12:49:40 AM
i agree

i lost track was the original error in the source ever fixed regarding block reward,

also is the most recent source updated on github and checkpointed ?

last i checked the release was different from what was on github but that was a while ago

haven't been on in ahwhile but good to see some motion here..

853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] MEMORYCOIN - Remember When? | Balance-Weighed Voted Devs + Charity on: July 11, 2014, 12:02:49 AM
i thought it may be, a shame really if the most optimized or really any code for a project is closed source.

open source is always the best way however each development team has a right to do things as they see fit and if you launch a coin an someone build a closed source miner for it , it is not something you can really control .

cest la ville
YAM is closed source, so you can't compile it. There are only pre-compiled versions available.
854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] [Exchange] Launch of Coins-E.com: exchange with over 30 coins on: July 09, 2014, 11:53:20 PM
Any chances of adding support or considering coins that 'deserve' to be on an exchange ?

I will not even ask for coins I am personally developing /or are the developer since Cinnamon Coin was supported by coins e .....

I will always be greatful to Coins-E for keeping Cinnamon Coin listed even while it is currently only proof of stake but I have a new client in final stages of testing to jumpstart the network with activity again.

My Suggestions:

1)  Blake Coin is up for consideratoin. Blake coin is certainly mature and secure at 9 months running with average network rate between 1 and 2 terrahash , I have written a lot about the benefits of blake 256 so I won't repeat here.

2) Simple Inflation Coin

btc english forum thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=fhfogsq68mludm4ip82ar2c8c0&topic=240894.0;all

the Russian thread is here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=240884.0

Sic is over 1 year running and if it had never been launched you would have never seen Quark, Secure Coin or the countless copies of multi algorithm coins Simple Inflation Coin has inspired.  I cpu and now gpu mine a little SIC every week faithfully and still not easy to hit a block.

Difficulty peaked last october when there was speculation and rumor BTCE was going to add the coin and again when at my request the developers of the multi algorithm miner SG Miner were kind enough to add it a few months ago.  I sent them some coins (a small variety for their kind work and hope others did too)

This coin deserves to be on every exchange out of the brilliance of it's design and what the scene owes it alone plus I think it an excellent long term distribution model that does not favor any centralization or large mining operators.  With 10 minute blocks and 1 coin per block plus a subsidy based on how high difficulty is the blockchain was about 108k tall last i checked so this is an infinite but controlled supply of coin and makes sense in many ways.

3)  Riecoin   - This is well known , biggest drawback of riecoin is a majority of the mining is ypoll which currently hits most blocks and is closed source but the developer is really active and sharp.  I don't know him personally other than just to exchange a few ideas in his forum and such but he is well head of a lot of other developers.  He has his client working of the bitcoin 9.2 development tree.
Not many people can say that and new mining to support strantum to allow others to run pools and spread the mining around are in development. Riecoin is supported on many other exchanges now. It is certainly superior to primecoin in that it does not have an infinite supply and offers a fixed supply of coins over the long term.

4) iX Coin , (Yes I am on the board of the iX foundation) I strongly support iX in the long term since it has been around several years, paid it's dues, has the security and network hash rate others dream of since merge mined with bitcoin.  There are currently many things in development for iX including counterparty support and an updated client currently on the 8.x codebase of bitcoin to be on the 9.2 platform with all the new features. iX is well supported on other exchanges including some big players and while mining is set to cease this fall the coin is not going to die  but if anything become more mainstream.  Other plans are in the works for payment systems and things but iX certainly should be on every exchange.

Thanks for consideration.

855  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What hardware would be best for a hobbyist? on: July 09, 2014, 10:01:11 PM
If you enter now have fun like some of the others said don't 'expect' to earn a large amount of btc unless you have big time firepower.

Difficulty is certainly going to continue to rise.

As mentioned above the manufactred ites you 'pre order' are usually not shipped until obsolete from a profit standpoint.

No shortage of mining equipment to pick up second hand as many people have got some bitcoin and are satisfied and just sell off and move on.

i guess i could check on my own, do the block crawlers show many 'unredeemed outputs' of mined blocks ?

i bet not

the 'rich' list blew my mind,

can you point me to the source code of the cpu miner that can generate these results please and maybe compiled binaries too ?

(just in case i can't get it to compile)

I am not getting that many hash /minute on what I am using now , looks like I need to upgrade.

what this project needs is for the most optimized miner to be open source, otherwise I am going to set it aside again I think ....

While I don't like the 'voting' system , i may be able to live with it but if I can only hash at 6 or 7 a minute and there are private builds of miners doing 3-4x that not open source it is not helping the project at all - short or long term.

As far as the anon. features they are pretty much a myth, if you do some research you will discover this...

Read this for starters but it is not related to memory coin just debunking anon coin mixing ect....

http://www.scribd.com/doc/227369807/Bitcoin-Coinjoin-Not-Anonymous-v01

The GPU miners are closed source and only offer at most - a 2X gain vs. CPU's.

Power efficiency, HPM, and Initial Investment costs are taken into consideration...

Since an R9 280x provides 18-21 HPM, an i7 can give 15HPM with half the TDP.

If it does not meet the requirements the exchange should be closed.
They have enough quark style clones there listed , none of which would exist without this coin.
