Can't you just send 100 BTC into the fund a few minutes before the draw closes, and then almost certainly win everybody's bitcoins? Then use those bitcoins again for the next lottery.
Yes, the chance of winning is proportional to the amount. You have also a small chance of loosing (almost) all your bitcoins if the average is small. It is about the same as buying almost all tickets of a lottery. And if you win, you almost win nothing (compared to your 100 btc) Yes, like any lottery the expected amount of winning will be less than the amount you put in (unless you are the only person playing the lottery). But since you're you, you can just choose not to pay out the money in that case and leave the forum forever. You don't make any profit from this lottery (or any future lottery) so you have no reason to hang around. The expected amount here is exactly the same you put in. It is just the fun. Maybe some day I create a lottery that does make some profit, but for now I leave it this way. Making 1 or 2 percent profit is also not worth the time you put in it (or the Jackpot must be really really high).

Hmm. Mention a large lottery and a bunch of other ones sprout out. Hopefully it doesn't shrink all the current lotteries! For those who want to play some of the other lotteries: -beware that some *could* be scams - I've seen some but luckily I think the most they made out with was 10 BTC or so...if I remember correctly -if all they say is send money to: (address) without explaining what ways to send from DON'T DO IT -beware those who are *picking randomly* but they have no system for independently verifying the random number - DON'T DO IT - they could easily enter themselves and then "randomly" pick themselves There are some that do seem legitimate and are trying but there are also some that look like scams. Some are seeing BitLotto and thinking they can get that kind of jackpot without setting up a cheat proof system or building trust, hoping to run with some BTC. Just worries me after reading some of the announcements....I welcome honest competition so if any others are looking for advice or help, I'm willing! You deserve a big THANK YOU for helping me =).

Seriously? You don't even inform them all the requirements to enter. It's not as simple as just send money. There are going to be many tickets you have no idea where they come from. They would be pretty much donating to you. And, even though the source of the random number is fine, since you don't give a time, or how you are going to pick it and people verify it, it's kind of useless.
Why should there be requirements? All i need is the wallet address, and then i random with that.. So it is completely anonymously.. And yeah.. i need a time.. But users can't verify that you are indeed picking random a winner.

Actually, you can cheat. You can send the money to yourself for example. You have to use a external random source you don't know and can't control before the date of draw, for example bitcoin block hashes.
