Until coins are more evenly spread out (like several thousand per wallet max) this coin will always be too lop-sided since you will either have to claim or buy your way in.... & any one of a few dozen people could willing crash the market with ease which would screw you as a new investor massively in the short run.
I wish there was a way to re-spread some coin to make it more viable NOW as a currency instead of waiting 20 years for everyone to catch up to those who have a truly unrealistic amount of coin for what they have given to the system. This could also keep potential investors out as well since they will know about the whales too*
Long story short, I sold most of my coins (over 85%) but will hold onto a much smaller portion knowing that it will be better for my coins to find new homes instead of hoarding as much SLR as the entire US East Coast could claim in several years .... here's hoping many of you with 25k+ SLR wallets do the same.
Keep up the good work, if nothing else we can fix this whale problem with time as large holders sell off & prices tank continually after large pumps... GO SLR, GO SOLAR!!
That can happen easily and there's many paths it can take, some are faster than others. And some are slower, but more stable.

Nice volume on the buy side today.
I don't think I have ever seen volume over 2 to 3 BTC per day. We are at 7 BTC right now and only on two exchanges!!. This coin is either getting traction or is it just another pump or dump... Either way I'm going to try and take advantage of these prices. I have a feeling we will be hitting .10 by the end of the year. To the Sun!!! I'd say it's getting traction. The year end review was well written and highlights the shift in strategy in the technology. Things have changed for the better and they continue to improve. We've gone from a scrypt 100 SLR block reward to a well written PoST implementation by the skilled Vericoin devs (Thank you Steve!), which is right inline with the philosophy behind the Solarcoin mission, carbon friendly and with that a lower block reward to fix the inflation issue and help make claims more attractive. There's now technology discussion about changing the claimants premine to a generation algo and securing it with smart contract technology. Two websites are now online and processing claims for Solarcoin generation, both (I think both) of which are also staking wallets for claimants. The devs have always been accessible and open to new ideas on how to improve the technology. It's a good time to be involved with Solarcoin. The idea alone of creating another much needed feed in tariff for solar energy is a great one. I loved the idea from the start. That was the original intent, but it's possible this coins technology and management might take it to a higher level in the future by using Solarcoin to sell and buy energy within a smart solar grid, increasing utility even further, not even to mention the idea of using the coins claims as a scientific tool to track solar radiation at least in the beginning on a quarterly scale, and possibly near real time in the future as the smart contract technology becomes implemented. Yeah, I'm a bit excited about the future.

I went in with a hex editor and took a look at the blockchain. I was rather shocked at the simplicity. Does anyone know how the transaction ID is encoded in the chain itself? Is it standard Bitcoin method? If so I'll just look up the bitcoin blockchain documentation. I'm fairly certain I can bang out some ms basic and get an idea of what I want to do with the data. The idea is to simply write something like blockchain.info, but with added lat/long data mapping for scientific purposes in such a way you can simply download the needed data in comma separated format.
hi Corather, you can reach out to steve woods at vericoin. The TX message was code from Florincode which should also available online. Should be in the source. Nick Thank you Nick.

So here's a 15 dollar solution. It's a 64 bit ARM mini computer like the pi, but armed with a quad-core ARM A53 64-bit processor. It can hold as much as 2 gigabytes of ram, and has all the standard pi like features. They've collected far beyond what they needed for the kickstarter, and if this little bad boy makes it into full production soon, we can have a 15 dollar linux staking wallet right out of the box without the need to recompile the wallet software. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pine64/pine-a64-first-15-64-bit-single-board-super-computForgive me, but where is the compiled ARM version wallet ? i have already asked by the past, and dev said that he will not compile an ARM version. So with Pine or PI, how do you plan to execute the wallet on ARM processors ? Oh that could be a problem. It's possible it can be compiled from source, at least a more direct path.

This will change everything. It opens the barrier to staking like nothing else we have ever seen. 15 Dollars to setup a full node and start staking, no matter how many slr you have. Awesome Just to be more specific, it's 10 dollars more for the 2 gig model, but I think even the 512k version might be able to stake effectively in a linux environment. I am really considering plunking down the whole 22 dollars to get my name on the march list. Do you realize how the barrier of entry for Solarcoin is getting smaller over time, as opposed to bitcoin where the difficulty just rises and you need to get new miners/hardware There's an elegance to Solarcoin that Bitcoin can't cover. At least now that it's carbon friendly, and designed to plug right into the sun. I'd love to see within my lifetime a network of scientific instruments measuring solar radiation across the globe and people benefiting from doing it. I want to write some software that will scan the blockchain for claimants, and make the data searchable. As well as track the chain like a typical tracker. I need to learn some new programming languages.

I bet other coins cant say that about there founders.
Yes, I also read the book "The Nature of Value" last year and it allowed to me think very differently about situations, investments, and generally about the current world we live in. It's all linking back to the 2nd law of thermodynamics and the system panarchy that we live in. This is something that I had been considering and debating in my mind for about 10 years after studying physics in the 3rd year of engineering and then having arguments with my economics lecturers (they were doing hand waving and didn't prove concepts that they were trying to teach from a mathematical background, I had to drop out of a masters in economics and went on to pursue engineering again). The book gave me needed extra inputs along with some other situations to see it more clearly. Solarcoin isn't mentioned specifically in the book but you can kind of see how it has progressed. Kind of like a tool set if you will. Excellent book and I highly recommend it. It all made sense and things came together. Solarcoin and other digital assets are a big thing that we are onto, because we are bringing together individuals across the planet so elegantly through trustless mathematics. These new flows that will be created will change the very fabric of modern civilization for the better. -lfloorwalker It's all about relationships. The nature of value is just that. Value derives through networking, building relationships, and incorporating useful functions within the ecosystem. This promotes strength and resilience.

The work going on with this coin is truly impressive.
I like drip 1
We are in on the ground floor people congrats.
Drip 1 does sound intriguing. It would more or less squash peoples fears about the premine since it wouldn't be there anymore, but then there's always people you can't please. Would it keep some people happy all of the time? Yes. That's really all you can ask for. Drip 2 includes Drip 1, plus it will add the smart contract functionality - IMO this would allow building upon the base functionality and fine tuning on-the-go to meet any current and future specs and requirements of the Generator Pool Security Framework as presented in the layout. Well that's even better. We're watching the evolution of crypto currency unfold. This is exciting.
