Spoofing Bitcoin with "Eye-Witnesses" (Disproven)

Hello Bitcoin Forums,

It is my understanding that the block chain is a constantly updating list of data that includes every transaction ever done through Bitcoin. Since Bitcoin is run through a peer-to-peer network there is no central block chain, but as people continually find new transactions they update not only their block chain but everyone else's in their network as well (and then those people update their network and so on and so forth). Correct?

Now here's the problem that's bugging me, its all heresay. I will use a metaphor to explain the fallacy I see within Bitcoin.

John and Jane have been dating for 12 weeks. John breaks up with Jane and tells 1 of his friends, however Jane runs straight out and tells 10 of her friends that she broke up with John. John and his friends are a relatively small group and they slowly spread the word, however Jane has a large group and is able to spread her story much faster. Soon enough only John and few of his buddies know the truth while the rest of the school thinks Jane broke up with John.

Now what the fuck am I saying, besides that Jane is a cunt?

Lets say someone in my network receives 10,000 Bitcoin if I could overpower him or her and tell the majority of the Bitcoin network that I actually received those Bitcoin by just slightly modifying data he sent me wouldn't it then make everyone that received my message believe that I now had 10,000 more Bitcoin? I wouldn't necessarily have to overpower him, but I'd just have to make sure anyone I was transacting with received my message (along with possibly everyone in their network that is online during the transaction) correct?

I have a feeling I'll be proven wrong, but if not, damn I'm good.

Monoprix, the French supermarket chain owned by Casino Guichard-Perrachon SA (CO), may allow shoppers to pay for their groceries and other goods using Bitcoins.

“It is a project,” Marie-Camille Dehaut, a spokeswoman for Monoprix, said today by phone when asked whether the company was planning to introduce the virtual currency. She declined to comment further.

Monoprix may accept Bitcoin payments on its e-commerce website this year, e-commerce director Patrick Oualid said in an interview with JDN published yesterday. The retailer is also working on allowing its customers to pay using their mobile phones in stores, Oualid said, according to JDN.

A spokeswoman for Casino said Oualid’s comments related to Monoprix only.

It was a joint subsidiary of the Casino Group and Groupe Galeries Lafayette, with both partners holding 50% of the company each since 2000, until June 2012 when Casino acquired Galeries Lafayette's stake.[2] The Monoprix group had more than 300 stores and employed around 20,000 people in France at the end of 2008.[3] It is considered an up-scale chain and its business model was the inspiration for Waitrose in the early 2000s[citation needed]. Monoprix is present in approximately 85% of all French cities with a population of more than 50,000 residents.[3] In 2005, Monoprix had €3.3 Billion in revenue.[3]

The closest comparison to Monoprix for American and British customers might be the old-style Woolco /Woolworths stores in both countries, which combined Woolworth's non-food range with a supermarket offering, or the Fred Meyer chain in the United States' Pacific Northwest.
