I'll rather you buy many altcoins with your ethereum, 1 ETH might be too small to hold, where there many coins with a very low price and have a great potential, try to buy some and hold for some time to have a better price.

I'll advice you don't hold only ETH, you can buy more altcoin that have high potential and hold till December, I'm sure pump is coming by Q4 2018, by then if you hold I'm sure you will gain your profit.

To earn big money, you can take part in a very good ICO and Hold the coin for long term.
Mining is also a good way ,you can mine some altcoin and get your money, or you can join bounty and airdrop they are free way to earn tokens, you can choose any convenient way to earn your money.

Both are decentralized exchange and follow the same process of transaction, folkdelta is better presently due to some issues ED was facing and folkdelta may also face the same problem soon as they originated from the same source.

For everyone to invest, i think there should be a good research, one needs to gather some info about the project which include: how strong the team are, also the quality of their product, whether it is future usable.

Ripple is an interesting project, truly most of the holders are from bank, i'd implore you to forget about negative comments from people and embrace the success ripple will attain in the nearest future.

HODL is also known as holding, it's just a term (form of register on the bitcointalk forum) mostly used on the forum.
Holding basically means keeping your coins for future, not to dump!  to sell at a good price.

I could say I'm a day trader because I do sell within couple of days, the profit I earn mostly are always too low though, but notwithstanding it do meet some of my needs. Probably in the next couple of months I'm going to start holding some Altcoin because I know holding is the best.
