2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Heads up! Market Bottom? You can buy now for under $22/BTC on: June 11, 2011, 05:35:36 AM

If you are savvy about markets and "Buy low / Sell High" you would know this is a high reward / somewhat low risk time to buy.

I agree Smiley Especially if you sold at the peak.

Why do I get the feeling that some really smart traders are screwing with all these tech geeks? I bet a ton of them sold on that long slide down, and are going to regret it very soon.
4  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild - 0% Fees, Long polling, SSL, JSON API, and more [~500 gH/sec] on: June 03, 2011, 03:56:23 PM
It might just be issues with BTCguild right now. Been having connection problems for a little bit now Smiley

It's a good pool, just might need a little expansion. I'd suggest setting up a backup pool that you can rotate to if your main one is having issues.
5  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Escrow with a person. Contact me if you need to make a trade. FREE! on: June 03, 2011, 03:44:16 AM
the key attribute of an escrow agent is trustworthiness - both buyer and seller have to trust the escrow party not to walk away with the funds.

being a relative newcomer to the bitcoin community... you probably won't score all that much trustworthiness Smiley

I totally understand that. I just need to start somewhere, I figure I'd give it a shot.  I will be upfront and honest, and hopefully people will respect that.
6  Economy / Trading Discussion / Escrow with a person. Contact me if you need to make a trade. FREE! on: June 03, 2011, 03:32:15 AM
Hi there bitcoin community. I've only been into bitcoining for a few weeks now, and I must say I've very happy and disappointed at the same time. I'm happy because I think this type of system has huge potential, but that potential is going to be slow coming if the scammers continue to riffle through our wallets. I've been scammed (not for a lot) since joining , and it's made me very aprehensive to trade or do anything with the bitcoins I'm earning, through mining.

So what solutions do I have? I know I've seen the web sites like Clearcoin that offer a type of "Escrow" service, but to me it's not enough. I would like a middle person (being pc) or at least someone I can communicate with that at least understands the transaction. It might not be speedy but I want to know that I have some way to at least voice a dispute and have someone hear it.

So my solution : I'm not trying to compete with Clearcoin or other escrow services because I feel what they are offering is different. They are offering a quick automated service. I would like to offer my services as a former Escrow analyst, with a personal touch if you will. I can help you make that transaction safer and secure(r).  I will try and help out if problems arise.

If you want to make a trade and want someone to act as escrow , contact me. I'll be more than willing to help free of charge. Why? Because I realize any type of escrow is built on trust and I would like to build the communities trust in me. This might not be as fast as automated systems, but hopefully it leaves you with a great sense of security.

Hopefully I can help some of you with your transactions soon! (Donations accepted, but not required)  -  1L1UZHetApfPuog64NJCFKwfg3iZnR2wNg

Thank You

P.S. I understand the apprehension that some people would have to use someone relatively new to the community, but I have to start somewhere. So I would appreciate it if people who do complete transactions through me would post on here afterwards.
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Dealing with dishonest bitcoiners on: June 03, 2011, 03:09:35 AM
I saw the same post. I contacted that seller and I offered to use some kind of escrow, but he said he didn't trust them. RED FLAG

You just need to watch out for scammers. Really to me this is the biggest downfall of Bitcoins, is there is way too much scamming going on, and it could potentially ruin the whole economy.

  Sorry you got scammed.
8  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Adding GPU's to media server. on: June 02, 2011, 05:29:56 PM
I tried in my old Dell e510, and had a problem that seems to be the same on the e521, at least the model I have.

The 5830 (as opposed to the 5770) has DVI ports on both slots, upper and lower, the problem is the dells off the PCI-e port only has holes for the lower slot. Ie. the back of the card doesn't have any space to come out.

Check your Dell and make sure it has the space, otherwise it won't work at all. My Dell 9200 has the right slot so I kind of got lucky I didn't just waste money on this 5830.

  Good luck.
9  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 6990 temperature 100 on: June 01, 2011, 08:25:46 PM
100c is too high for my tastes. I try to keep my cards within the 65-75c range max.

 Things to make sure :
1) the airflow out of the BACK of the card is sufficient : Make sure there is nothing impeding the air flow that comes out of the back of the card where the monitor(s) plug in. Most cards have the exhaust vent on this part of the card, if you have your computer backed up against a wall try moving it so that air can move freely our of the back.
2 ) Intake air should not be recycled from the exhaust : Make sure that the air that is flowing into the card is fresh cool room air. If you have a 7k or 10k rpm hard drive that is in the direct air flow from the front of your case to the video card, you may consider moving that drive(s).  If you can get a large 120 mm (or larger fan) that acts as the intake to directly hit the video card with out other components getting in the way this is the best solution.
3) Check your software flags and overclocking : If you are getting to hot (85c+) lower your overclocking until you can get it reasonable. Change the flags you have on your software lower some settings and play with it until you can get the temperatures down.

In the end you don't want to be running a card to hot. You will prematurely cook the card and that will cost you possibly more in the long run that just lowering your settings a little bit. IMO.

Funny you ask, I have that exact system, and I just ordered a 5830. I should be installing tomorrow evening sometime. I do have a 550w PWS that I might use instead, I'll let you know how things go. I'm not running a media server on it, but it does act as a game server for minecraft, and murmur voice.
