If anyone has any remaining doubts about the claims process, I would like to invite you to read article 14 of the indictment against Liberty Reserve.

http://krebsonsecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Liberty-Reserve-et-al.-Indictment.pdf

Here is a recording of the press conference the feds gave on the seizure of Liberty Reserve and the arrests of their operators/employees. They specifically state that the persecution of LR does not translate to other virtual currencies such as bitcoin, though they do stress the importance of KYC and AML policies and hope that those who need to enforce them do. They even speak of virtual currencies in a good light.

While I understand why Giga is doing what he's doing... I doubt he would be under fire for the same things LR was guilty of. They are entirely different businesses.

Have you gotten your money back this thread is months old now?

No I haven't. Nor have I received any response to emails or PMs sent asking for an update.

Last I heard from them was a few days after Jay's post on page 10 where he stated that I didn't need to do anything but sit tight and wait. And it seems that's pretty much all I can do now.

Message theymos.

This.

Issue 9 Get!

Just got mine in Korea too!

Jeeze... the articles and ads in here are either out-of-date or beaten to death by the community at large already... This is pretty pathetic. There's even an ad for the conference.

Which ones? (Are we talking about the Feb or March issue?)

I just received the April issue... It has ads for the conference and ads for BFL with old case designs on them.

Is the creator responsible for the unintended actions of the A.I?

Perhaps not any specific unintended actions, but creating (and releasing) a legally (if not morally) naive AI that would do what is needed to survive and thrive the programmer could be face criminal or civil negligence charges.

I suppose it would depend on what kind of damages were done... In the end creating a morally/legally naive AI could be more trouble than it's worth depending on how anonymous the programmer is.
87  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin the enabler - Truly Autonomous Software Agents roaming the net on: May 26, 2013, 01:35:34 AM
I wonder, if some such program starts doing something that's against the law, and a programmer who supports the program writes code to help the program avoid the law, would he be charged with breaking the law, or assisting a criminal?

In this case "trying to survive" would be synonymous with "avoiding the law". So even if the agent weren't maliciously replicating/moving itself, the fact it was uncontrollable might get him charged for creating a "virus" (or what have you).

The entire concept of creating (and releasing) something like this is already morally grey. I'm sure they'd find something to stick him with.

Thanks for all the info FellowTraveler... I have one question though, what are "multi-sig voting pools", and how do they work? Do they actually hold onto funds, or do they just sign off on transactions involving them?
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin the enabler - Truly Autonomous Software Agents roaming the net on: May 24, 2013, 12:58:50 AM
I'd like to see how the recent Open Transactions breakthrough might allow for such an agent to come to pass.

I think the idea is escrow, rather than collateral. Both Alice's SEPA transferred funds and Bob's crypto would be floating in the air at the same time if I'm understanding things properly.
Uhm, how can the OT+BM (or any non-banking) system put any constraints, control, or monitoring on wire transfers which occur only between banks? I mean Alice can say her SEPA funds are in the air, but who knows if they really are?

I'm not sure how this escrow thing works. Is that based on trust (and how is that assigned?) or some smart novelty that eliminates the need of trust?

I believe that OT server doesn't hold funds directly, but waits until transactions are ready to be forwarded and then signs them off. Doesn't the anonymity gained from OT come from two parties not directly sending funds to eachother?

I'm just going off of what has been posted in the thread so far, I'd love to hear someone more knowledgeable to give us a summary on example transactions.
91  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Holy Grail! I wish I could kiss the author of Bitmessage on his face. on: May 23, 2013, 11:55:43 PM
From what I've read, Bob has to put in some crypto currency as collateral, so that if he disappears with the money, he'll actually end up losing more than he took from Alice. Is this right? If yes, how can Bob be sure that whoever he pays collateral to, won't disappear with that?

I've been following this thread, felt like jumping in here.

5430 Satoshis is also known as a Gavin.
What do we call the next default then?

The default dust threshold can always be known as the Gavin, whatever value it currently has. Honor where honor's due.

I think it is kind of misleading, since a Satoshi will always be  (and always be known as) .00000001 bitcoins.
93  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The True Explanation of Ripple for Bitcoiners on: May 21, 2013, 06:58:45 PM
Ripple selects the cheapest path by itself and just telly you how many of your BTC IOUs that item will cost. If you agree, you hit "send" and the merchant receives whatever currency IOU he prefers (e.g. USD from Paypal). You don't know and you don't have to care - all you ever have to touch is BTC and 1 XRP every million transactions or so.

So if something goes wrong and it so happens that one of the parties down the path (Ripple chose) turns out to be illiquid, what happens?

Will kraken.com be phased out and replaced with payward.com?

... the default value for dust is 5430 Satoshis (~0.6 US cents at current exchange rate).

like i said before:

in Bitcoin, exchanges aren't critical for the network to funcition.

whereas in Ripple, licensed trusted financial institutions, are.

In Bitcoin you can ONLY get other Bitcoins (that you "own") or untradeable and implicit IOUs in transactions. In Ripple you can get XRP (that you "own") or tradeable and explicit IOUs in transactions.

Ripple is complementing Bitcoin, not trying to replace it. You can use it if you either trust somebody else (e.g. a gateway) or if you are trusted yourself (so others will accept your IOUs and you are the gateway), no matter the actual currency.
Simply not true, not for making payments in Ripple and not even for trading IOUs.

So what is left for Ripple if you do not involve yourself with any transactions involving Fiat? Is there a way to transact Fiat without being dependent on exchanges?
97  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The True Explanation of Ripple for Bitcoiners on: May 21, 2013, 05:28:49 PM
Why would someone think trying to sell the ability to create IOUs to bitcoiners would give them anything but shit and drama? Debt Stinks... I should know  Wink

I don't use exchanges and I don't plan to. At least with MtGox and other exchanges I would know what I would be getting into.

Has anyone claimed Ripple to be open source? If the answer is yes, where is the source code?

Has anyone claimed Ripple to be decentralized? If the answer is yes, is it infact true?

I'm not trying to troll, these are legitimate questions. I haven't been following Ripple lately, because I don't particularly like IOUs.

That's a healthy amount of money you have there misterbigg!

He obviously values IOUs from a central authority which has recently had their liquidity threatened.

Any specific questions you have been vaping for ~2 yrs now.

Are you planning on supporting multiple flavors and amounts of nicotine? I noticed that you only have tobacco flavored. From what I've heard and seen, variety in flavors and levels of nicotine seem to be desired from vapers.

Where can I go to read more about the eGo eCig? I think ecigs are a good (and welcome) fit with bitcoin (and bitcoiners), hope it goes well.
